    My Elantra will be 10 years old in June. Bought it brand new back in 2011. 176K miles and still going strong. Great investment. My only gripe was with it being advertised to get up to 40 mpg on the highway. I have driven it on so many highways and have only been able to get on average 35 mpg at speeds between 55 and 65.

      Yeah Hyundai nowadays is doing well with fuel economy. My Venue is rated to get 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, but I get like 40-50 mpg in the city which is nuts.

      Have just bought a 2011 Elantra Elite (NZ spec model) with 113,000 km on it, which means a black leather interior, and dual zone climate control.
      Very quiet and smooth (I have little need to redline it), typically numb but accurate electric steering (doesn't only apply to Hyundai, believe me), decidedly firm ride and very crisp handling on the twisty roads. Very solidly built. It's actually nice looking - something I can't say about most cars these days.
      It's hardly in the first flush of youth but I think it's a good car.

    My father in law just gave me his 2011 Elantra GLS, it has 201,000 miles on it. He’s done very minimal maintenance on it, just oil changes, tires, brakes, battery, spark plugs and a starter at 185k miles. The car has never left him stranded. Never changed trans fluid or coolant, that scares me a little, but since it was free I’ll drive it until it explodes lol

    I have a 2012 with 252,000 miles and some change and had it ten years now. It still doesn't lose its oil level and still using the same original AC system and still blows cold and I live in south Mississippi. Only major repair I've had was the crank sensor and I still get 34 to 36 miles to the gallon on the highway doing 75 miles an hour. I use full synthetic oil and change it every six thousand miles.

    The updated MPG ratings for the Elantra sedan are actually 28 City/38 Highway; still respectable numbers. I think he also failed to mention that all Elantras have disc brakes at all 4 wheels. I have a 2012 Elantra, which is my first Hyundai, and, to me, it's a very competent car. My big gripe would be that there is no spare tire, though you can buy one after the fact now.

  • @kricul1

    Just bought 2011 GLS..52K miles Why? Best bang for my buck! Glad it loses resale value because I keep all my cars until they are dead. Sold my 2002 Prizm for this. Night and day. Test drove the competion and the Elantra has best exterior looks, best interior, most room. No spare? Went to a junkyard and picked up a $85 Aluminum 16'' wheel, jack for $3 and wrench for $2. Tire for $40. Full size. Donuts are not real tires. Just amazing car all around. Mechanic wise, only time will tell but I'll risk it over the lesser Corolla, Civic, Sentra, Focus, Mazda3, Impreza, Galant, Fusion, Cruze. Rented or test drove them all. Elantra best.

    • @rickpettry
      @rickpettry 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Really if you are serious. drive a Corolla first. the Corolla is a better car. if you want a great car. for the price of the Elantra. Go test drive a Subaru Impreza. A more comfortable. and better ride, with a better stereo system. and all wheel drive. Hyundai will tell you that the Elantra gets 38 MPG'S. So not true the most I can get going down hill is 35.5.. Hyundai is also made by the same manufacturer as KIA. they both have the lowest resale value in their class. if you want a good car with great gas mileage buy a Mazda 3... Don't take my word for it go test drive some cars. MY 2012 is a piece of Crap.. with poor handling and the worst road noise and stereo system. Talk to some other dealers about the poor trade in value..

    • @rickpettry
      @rickpettry 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      apparently most or all of the positive comments made on this page are from people affiliated with Hyundai. I doubt anyone would trade a Toyota or a Honda for a Hyundai. that's like going backwards/ Hyundai has a bad rep. Honda and Toyota don't. and both get over 250,000 miles I have not seen in 37 years a Hyundai do that. the Elantra has a poor stereo, bad road noise. poor handling. and one Just caught on fire while parked, Mine had tried to kill me. horrible little car.....

      CHECK the value of my 2102Elantra. With KBB.MY ZIP CODE IS 97116. Since prices vary from state to state. You will see this Hyundai crap that retailed for $ 22,599. Is only worth $10,500. And trade in at a dealer is 9,600.00. Just to be sure. You c as n Email Wentworth Subaru. Or Royal Moore Subaru. And ask what a Elantra like mine with only 33k is worth. Then shut your pie WHOLE
      Just like the others. All talk. And nothing else. Put your money were your mouth is. You habe no idea what your talking about. Just acting like you do. So what grad are you in????

    I drove the elantra, focus, cruze. It seems all three have no steering feel. The materials inside feel pretty much the same. They all have plastic feel to them. I notice that the transmission on the focus, elantra has a tendency to shift somewhat have that lazy feel. The Chevy Cruze has this weird way if you make a sudden U turn. the transmission have a lazy way to catch up. it's like Oh its time to go. then it goes.
    Focus has the HP, Elantra has the interior, Cruze just average.

    @bmwmsport11 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you notice that the steering wheel was always tilted at an angle when you were going in a stright line? Sonatas and elantras along with acouple of other models have that steering problem. Atleast a corolla doesn't have the problem. IMO the Corolla is amongst the best. It's quiet, looks decent, rides decent, and gets decent MPGs.

    I have talked to people at shopping malls and other places with Elantras and they have all said the same 33/34 on the highway. We were in Florida and a disgruntled Elantra owner stopped me and asked if I was getting more than 33 on the highway. We went on a 300 mile trip there and back (total 600 miles) traveling at 65 and only got 34.

    I've been shopping around for cars in the 20k price range (CAD), and the jetta looked inferior to the elantra in a few ways. According to their respective websites the elantra has better mileage, more hp (148 to 115), more torque (131 to 135), and is even 9 kg's lighter (Auto trans).Also financing atm is better currently at 0% APR.It tells me the jetta requires premium gas as well.
    Am I missing something? Unless you're talking about the 24k CAD price range I guess the jetta is more appealing.

    If you were in the market for a compact sedan, choose the Elantra over any compact sedan! Even if you were in the market for a Honda Civic, choose this instead, because the Civic is just crap! IT IS UGLY!!

    Anybody who likes the corolla either sells or owns them. Anybody who knows about cars should know that the corolla is the oldest compared to their competition. The 10th gen Corolla (2009-2013 US version) has even an older counterpart in Japan called the Corolla Axio which was introduced in >>2006

      ***** No i just find the 10th gen corolla horrendously left behind compared to its competition back when it was the current generation. Even the 11th gen is still slightly trailing because of the new Forte and Mazda 3. The Civic beats Corolla in fuel economy (excluding the eco trim) and its got a more responsive CVT than the Corolla. I test drove both cars and the Civic just felt better to drive.

    I actually got 40 once. Of course, I've also gotten as low as mid 30s on the highway, but that will happen if you are going over 70 mph, on hilly terrain, and/or if you have a strong headwind. I also have a feeling that these engines don't really like the gasoline with 10% ethanol. Unfortunately, that's all that's available around here. While Hyundai goofed on the mileage label, I'm content with their reimbursement program.

    Henry, you are right there is no spare tire as we found out one evening. The 38 mpg on the highway is a lie. We are getting 33/34 on the highway and I have talked to several others who are getting the same mpg. I wish now we had researched more and we would have bought a Toyota or Honda.

    I test drove one of these in 2013...and the legroom was bad. other than that, it's a very nice looking car, but I decided to get an 09 honda fit sport due to legroom and honda reliability. just traded it in for a 2013 mazda 3 i touring and though I miss the honda, the mazda has better power and comfort. plus you don't have to deal with a cvt or dsg transmission

      +Fredrick Altenhoff - Mazda 3 is a great car, I had one for 9 years, I actually just traded in my Mazda3 for a 2016 Elantra.

    I have one in bronze. Will be trading it as soon as the new Corolla come out. The Elantra is noisy and numb feeling

    Gee! someone here has it for Corolla, how do explain the fact that it still sells so well? must be a lot of dumb people in America buying cars, Camry, boring is the # 1 seller in its class.
