Seun, I have to correct you. Farrakhan did not replace Malcolm X. They were both studying at the Temple under Elijah Muhammad at the same time. When Elijah Muhammad died, there was a lot of internal conflict and several sub sects of the Nation of Islam were created under different leadership. When Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965, Elijah Muhammad was still a living and leading the NOI. Farrakhan did not take the lead until Elijah Muhammad died. There was the NOI under Farrakhan, the NOI who still followed a late Elijah Muhammad, and Elijah Muhammad’s son somewhat revolted and started his own sect.
