John Mills made a lot of war movies! Thanks for posting, there is just something special about the British movies that makes them more interesting then what Hollywood made in the same period!

@@bullettube9863 , I think many of the post war actors saw active service, which lent the backgrounds to the authenticity of the movie. Superb movie

He did. All the other men in the country actually were at war.

John Gregson... "Angel's One Five" An excellent movie about a Hurricane fighter station at the start of the Battle of Britain.

Thanks for sharing this video. Good old John Mills. Perhaps the Allies could have won the war with just him alone, he seems to have done every role in the military from ambulance driver to soldier evacuating Dunkirk to RN commander to intelligence officer looking after Monty's double. I don't think I have ever seen him in a non-military role tbh. Love him though and love this film and your feed. Thanks again.

One advantage they had over US films....was a limited budget. The plot & acting made up for the lack of production funds.

@@Baskerville22 It also helped that had men in the navy with speaking parts! Though this sometimes happened in Hollywood films it was more common in wartime British films. Hollywood was very strict with it's budgets, the studios were infamous for their cost cutting. But the initial budgets were more generous to begin with.

This film is based on a book. The book is titled, Combat Beneath The Sea. The book is a factual account of the exploits of 'frogmen', the UDT men.
The attempts on the Tirpitz is but one of a large number of such missions. What these men did is beyond heroic, very much extraordinary.
Surely the book has long been out of print. Still, it is very much worth reading. If you should find a copy, you'll be absolutely amazed at what these fearless men accomplished. Against all odds. Incredible is such an understatement.
5:35 At Pearl Harbor was (still is?) an escape tower. I went through it twice.

History not just of nations, but of people of every sort, who lived it. History should never be diminished and certainly not forgotten.

As a nuclear submariner, I take exception to 1:07 where the Gregson boat rests on the bottom awaiting the results from the other boats. Smoking with no outside air, and no idea how long they may have to wait is not a good idea. Of course they may have CO2 absorbers on board, but I doubt it.
Still, a good film. Thanks for uploading!

I love clicking on an old movie and find out it's a Rank Organization film! This American thinks they are generally as good as any movie made anywhere.
