He chained Big Welcome to Arianna and since the chains resolve backwards in the TCG Arianna wasn't technically on the field when she activated her effect but she was still summoned. Which meets all the requirements for the cards effect to still resolve. I believe the other player did something similar but I cant remember for the life of me what it is

that is cause, skill drain had been face up on the field, so basically, the skill drain will negate any effect, but not the activation, that is why, the lab player activate the effect of arianna, then he try to bounce it with big welcome... in that scenario... arianna will be negated until leave the field, however once she is still on the field their effects are negated, inf, impern needs to negate an effect to be activated, and skill are negating all of them, for that reason impern does not have target and cannot be activated either....

He wanted to get that max plus, which, to be fair i'd have done as well.
If he would have summoned Lovely instead of Lady that Big Welcome would have popped off.
