  • Erin the archaeologist visits Pont Dafydd (Dafydd's Bridge) near St Asaph, just off the A55 in Denbighshire. Records show there has been a bridge on site since 1485, but this listed, medieval, scheduled monument dates to 1630. Once on a main pilgrimage route between Saint Asaph Cathedral and Holywell's holy well of St Winefrede, this tiny bridge with original paved surface was built by Bishop Dafydd. The county boundary and the River Clwyd were re-routed when the main north Wales trunk road A55 was widened, so today this bridge is just used for occasional footpath and farm users. It no longer even stands over a waterway - a real bridge to nowhere...

Great video, my parents live up the road from there. I used to cross that bridge and go under the A55 before the footbridge was built.
