I grew up close to a Quaker cemetery. All the gravestones are simple and identical in size. Even the graves line up perfectly. It remains the same. No flowers or other items are permitted, in keeping with Quaker ideas on simplicity in life. I like that idea.
Hi Sue and Gv once again I did not get a notification but that’s OK because I am hooked on this Channel lol ❤anyways I will always know when there is a new video. I think you guys deserve much more followers. The content y’all put out its brilliant ,educational and history that should never be forgotten❤
Thanks Audrey, yes TH-cam is at it again, not sending notifications, that makes it very hard for us to maintain our channels. All I can say is watch the channel for uploads 😉
That is a really kept cemetery. Very sad story, I hope they are together and happy. May the rest in peace. Can't wait for the next vid Sue. I have missed watching your and GVs vids. I need to go back and catch up.
They may have stopped them in life, but they made sure they would be together forever inspirit. Bury the bodies anywhere, but they left life together! Sad, but that’s love. So, many beautiful headstones, but so many died young. Ty for the tour.
Beautiful cemetery and old grave head stones the sun shinning on the day you filmed . Its sad about the young coaples . Hopefully they are in the after life , holding hands and walking by the river for love never dies it continues for eternity. 😢❤
A great history lesson as well as a tour of a beautiful cemetery. There is a big plaque in the Friends Society Burial Ground in O'Neill Street. The Quakers did a lot to help the hungry in the 1845 famine and were good people. The problem was the strict adherence to the rules of their religion in 1826.Thanks for the tour.
Beautiful church and graveyard, they seem to be in good condition. The headstones 🪦 seem to be fairly legible. Sad story about the young lovers, 😢 may they rest in peace 🙏 Thank you very much for a great walking tour Sue and GV. Have a great weekend. 😊
Another beautiful cemetery the story of the lovers is very sad they might not be buried together but they will be together now in heaven. Thank you Sue 💜
The oldest grave you shared was the priest about 676? I been looking for more from 1000 to1300. Known as the dark ages. Did they have organized grave yards?. Thank you for your channel. I wished I could support you more. I'm on retirement. Little money.
I love the wall with the arches, it’s beautiful. Sad that Anna and Fredrik weren’t buried together, they wanted to be together in life and didn’t get that, the least they could’ve had was to be together in death.
Most of our graves have kirbs now a days so it's easy these older ones you just avoid the are in front of the stone, I have a gimble so I can reach over
That's such sad Story Sue, Curious about the head stone with the two that Died on the same day on it, was that another couple that couldn't be Married as well ? Sometimes that happens in multiple occasions, that why I asked. I know you said the two that the story was about weren't buried together which is also sad. 😥
This reminds me of a story I heard about as a teenager while on a ghost/cemetery tour. I live in South Carolina USA and about an hour away from me in the same state is a city called Charleston, I love this city it's so beautiful filled to the brim with history and it's cemeteries and graveyards are eerily peaceful and gorgeous (i've been there easily a couple hundred times in my lifetime), well as a teenager going on my tour there the tour guide told us a story as we reached the graveyard where this took place- I don't remember the exact details like their names or what year it took place (i'm about to do some digging online to see if I can find out more about it) but it was a tragic love story, the woman was the daughter of a rich powerful and well known person in the community and the man was your every day joe a solider, they fell in love, of course since status was so important back then her father refused point blank to let them get married, he ended up leaving for war, sadly while he was away she got ill and passed away, he didn't find out about it until he came back, he wanted to visit her grave but unfortunately somehow her father found out about it and had all the grave stones removed and had all the dirt on top made to look like it had been freshly dug so that he couldn't find her grave. What sticks out to me the most about this other then the obvious is that the tour guide was in tears as she told us this story 😕
Really makes me wonder how many other people throughout history weren't able to be with the person they loved and had to suffer because of the stupid societal rules society believed in and enforced at the time 😢
Ahh, bless them, I bet it still goes on today, not only in status but probably ethnicity as well. Obviously, back then, it was harder to find love without parent interference but I bet it continues today, maybe not as bad but definitely still happens
Very beautiful place church is stunning, so sad about the two in love and then not wanting to live without each other they might not be buried together but their souls are together R. I. P. Both
@@SerenitySueGraveyards it is sad i remember my husband and me went to see rev to book our wedding we were only 16 he said could we take him a letter from our parents i said no we afe both. 16 and we are not asking them for their permission no way, so must of been awful back then
Beautiful graveyard! I wonder what kind of stone they used in the 1700s that you can read the inscriptions ?What a sad story of the young lovers😩😩. I hope they entered a different room in heaven away from the parents🙏🏻🙏🏻.
I’m going to West Virginia at the end of August. I am going to clean all the children’s graves of my family. Makes me sad they are in such condition, but, not on my watch! Parents long gone who lost these babies, would love that I think.
I love these stones from the seventeenth hundreds we looked recently at some at a twelfth century church on the Isle of Wight . Sue you should visit the island there are some lovely old churches and many ghosts 😮
This was an especially pretty cemetery Sue and Cathal. I have always loved the area of Tipperary. The headstones were unique and the entire place well-taken care of. Loved those red doors. Is that typical of Anglican churches?
I wonder if the parents of that Quaker girl regretted not letting her marry her love. I guess the couple thought if they can't be together in life, they'd be together in death. So sad.
Enjoying another one of your fascinating videos. Some of those cemeteries are so overgrown, do you ever run into any snakes ? Jeff from BC Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Red symbolizes the sacrificial blood of Christ that saves those who come to him. Red is also a reminder of the Passover and a sign of the Holy Spirit. Church doors began to be painted red as a way of remembering the ultimate sacrifice that others had made for their faith.
Look at the beautiful daffodils!!! Sue, what a beautiful place. Thank you for this beautiful walk today. ❤️
Very welcome
What a beautiful cemetery and church thank you so much for sharing I really enjoyed this video thank you.
It's so well maintained Joel, some fascinating history there

I love the Quaker burial grounds, simple but beautiful, I've visited a few on my channel and there's always a peaceful feeling in them
Lots of uniquely carved markers! Gorgeous setting also. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem 😥. So sad. Thanks Sue. 👍🙏

It's a shame it was closed when we went, I've visited many burial grounds belonging to the friends society and find them so peaceful

Sad the two lovers could not be buried together. Beautiful cemetery and love the "red door".
I love the red door, it really stands out
Beautiful cemetery
Thanks, I thought the place was stunning too

Sad that Anna and Fredrik weren’t buried together, they wanted to be together in life and didn’t get that, the least they could’ve had was to be together in death.
I agree, how sad, must have to do with the different religions and beliefs even in death division
Some very interesting headstones!
I think so too!
Thank you, Sue for another great video.

Lovely cemetery such a sad story hopefully their together forever ❤
I believe they are reunited 💖
Another great one😊 and I have a question: How do you avoid walking on the graves

Always been curious why the Church of U5reland churches have red doors. Does anyone know,?
Red symbolizes the sacrificial blood of Christ that saves those who come to him. Red is also a reminder of the Passover and a sign of the Holy Spirit. Church doors began to be painted red as a way of remembering the ultimate sacrifice that others had made for their faith.
I have two questions..Was the church Catholic when it was built? and are Quaker’s all Protestant?
Quakers are Protestant Christians but their beliefs are amazing. St Mary's is Protestant, I'd imagine it always was
@@SerenitySueGraveyards thanks for that Sue
