Round or EWG Treble Hooks?

Using round bend or EWG treble hooks for bass is a never ending debate. They are both good but you need to understand when to use one versus the other. Listen to John Crews explain the difference.

Awesome breakdown on each style. I will have to agree, as the water gets colder, the lip gets tougher. When they start turning red, they are stiffer. Round bend is the way to go. All 8 I caught today, I had to use the pliers to remove the hook. I only use Gamakatsu hooks, from treble to soft plastics.

I had never thought about warm water “soft” and cold water “hard” bass mouths. Makes great sense. Also the hooks for “slap” baits. A good all time hook looks like the round bend.
Your Spro Little John crank baits have excellent hooks. I need to get into the habit of keeping the my hooks fresh. Also, I wonder do split rings get weak after several hook change outs?

I was introduced to the trapper hooks a few years back. They require pliers year around. Sad they quit making them even though I was able to stock up very cheap.

AARONS G Finesse O'shaughnessy BUT man they can get brittle but they dig for a good bite. Wish they made a slightly bigger barb.

I just fish what's on the crankbait, unless I lose two in a row.
But jigging spoons - EWG only, snags less fishing in timber and holds fish well.

I hate EWG hooks .. Plain and simple , I lose more fish with those hooks by a wide margin compared to round bend so I change em out immediately ... Biggest scam hook on the market , I get it , need to sell more hooks so they event sometin to sell you ... Not buying that they are better hooks ... sorry All that cold water warm water nonsense is just that , oh , were supposed to ask the fish how there taking it today and change the hooks accordingly ... right

Sounds like it might be more user error. Ewgs certainly have benefits. But just like everything, there is a trade off. Not a scam, however.
