The late 19th century and early 20th century must've been so exciting. Cars, aviation, phones. Tons more I'm sure. They really weren't afraid to try new things out! 🙂💙
Back then, they really wanted to innovate. no matter what. nowadays, its all about money, and if its not going to bring money instantly, the innovation is sadly abandoned....
A very sophisticated design for 1896 by the looks of it. Does it have a differential or did they just drive one of the rear wheels ? Apparently the fully restored car seen here went for $483,400 at auction.
So nice to watch a car video where I can hear the vehicle - instead of the racket some people call music. BTW, Did Morgan get its idea for wood-frame cars from this vehicle?
What's that top-hat thing on the cylinder? Inlet valve? If I was going to take that out on the road there'd be an undertray fitted to protect the mechanicals. Really impressive and that engine is perfectly tuned to start that quickly - they usually take some fighting.
When u let off the throttle and the drag of turning the electric generator/ motor slows you down and recharges your batteries at the same time..it's regenerative braking.
Amazing. One thought that the hybrid was a relatively new concept, and it turns out to be over a century old. Any chance for a revived interest in steam, or is that dead?
Folks don’t realize that gasoline powered cars were considered to be impractical even to the point of thinking that their only possible role might be a niche market in remote, rural areas. It was the vast reduction in cost over battery vehicles and vast extra power and speed that caused gasoline to win out -- not any conspiracy theory.
There were also various electric car at the time too, but they could produce gas cars at a faster pace and cheaper. Also at the time there was still a lot of people/places that still didn't have electricity yet. So the gas car won until the technology and infrastructure caught up
The Oil companies ruled the Auto industry And FINALLY when the people complained long enough the Japanese the JAPANESE auto industry were the ones to REVIVE this technology
The first motorcycle, the 1864 Roper, was steam. The first ICE motorcycle didn't appear until 1885. The first bicycle in 1886. The first ICE car in 1887.
If Henry Ford used an electric motor for the transmission in his model T we would so far long in Hybrid technology. The customer who bought this vehicle didn't have to bother with the chaos called a transmission because the planetary transmission where the gears stay meshed being engaged by pressing a band around it until at the earliest 1903 and the Synchromesh transmission where a steel more or less plug, around the the shaft going to the back wheels and brings what ever gear needing to be engaged to the speed of the shaft going to the back wheels until 1929.
porsche had a hybred they use to race in early 1900s gasoline generator to front hub electric motors porsche himself would race it must of been creative times then
no they didn't. They were never under the impression they invented the Hybrid. They did perfect it though and mass produced a commercially viable design.
He was elected in the early 1970s? That's when the first gas price crisis occurred, when the oil exporting companies (OPEC) realized they controlled the market. The price increase was far, far larger, proportionately than the recent rise. I can understand not liking that he's in the White House, but it does no good to blame him for anything that comes along.
Nothing's new under the sun. This amazing machine was just 120 years before it's time.

Right im going to buy vintage car😍
What a beautiful auto! All the exposed gears are fascinating to watch.
Интересная техника. столько лет машинке и работает. Молодцы
What an amasing vehicle. Thank you for showing it to us. Kind regards from Belgium
And then it took around 100 years for the Toyota Prius to go into production as the first mass production vehicle with full-hybrid drivetrain!
Amazing that this one off prototype survived I have read there was a copy made somewhere.
wonder, where this technology was hiding for so long,
Amazing! The noise is so funny:)
That is utterly AMAZING.
Great Car! It looks the mama of hybrid!
There were other hybrids as well just a few years later.
Wow! 1896, amazing!
A very sophisticated design for 1896 by the looks of it. Does it have a differential or did they just drive one of the rear wheels ? Apparently the fully restored car seen here went for $483,400 at auction.
Imagine trying to find mechanics to work on this in the 1890's!
I'm in awe. How did this stay hidden for so long?
Now that's a dope ride
And yet today we see “the all new self charging hybrid”
That's just an advertising gimmick, to sell the old models that can't run on electricity.
Amazing restoration job! It sounds kind of like the flubber car from Disney's Absent Minded Professor.
+BeanieandCecil CecilandBeanie It sure does, cool stuff.
Era un excelente invento, que lastima que este prototipo tan prometedor no hubiese tenido mas desarrollo
So nice to watch a car video where I can hear the vehicle - instead of the racket some people call music. BTW, Did Morgan get its idea for wood-frame cars from this vehicle?
don't you mean "when driving, the *gasoline* motor can charge the batteries" instead of the other way around as in time index 3:44?
Great video!

0:16 The word is 'propulsion'
1:48 "Regenerative Braking" or just keeping the battery charged with the engine running?

The noises this thing makes remind me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I'm amazed this exists.

Post apocalyptic revival
Petroleum industry must have powerful tools at its discretion to suppress such a beautiful piece of automobile . Just wow
The petroleum industry ENCOURAGED petroleum-product cars, not suppress them.

What a nice car!!
Thank you
Beautiful car
Wow whot the contraption
It only shall only be motored with a long coat and top hat 🎩
Wonderful!
Fantastic car

I know, I cant even imagine where we would be now if the oil companies had not done that.
So beautiful
Hahahaha that's great really but it sounds a little like the Flubber car in the original Absent Minded Professor. I love it.
How come this was forgotten?
Great and excellent
Neat, but how easily does it get stuck?
Can you put chains on it?
Most cars were electric at first. That is why Detroit is called the MOTOR city. Not the ENGINE city.

He did a collaboration with Edison but the prototype was unsuccessful

Still better than a 2021 Kia

Blook, blook, blook, thrup, thrup, thrup, kplurp, kplurp, kplurp! All that mechanical stuff running in the open with no oil!

At the time of gasoline powered vehicles first being built gasoline was plentiful (until Joe Biden was elected president).

Fake ! can't see it running on electric !
Tha'ts because it's running on 1896 electricity, it was harder to see.
The large brass cylinder with the internal windings. That's the electric side of it.
THAT TIME THEY MADE THIS, NOW MAKING SATELLITES.
ASIAN COUNTRIES BOWING AS SLAVES, NOW BUYING SATELITES, WAU.
