- Reflections and glare on eye-glasses is one of the most persistent problems that people tell me about in their photography. This problem can come in different shapes and sizes, and there isn't one fix that works every time, but this tutorial shows you the two part method I use most of the time when this happens. Glad to see you putting out some content of your own(I guess the pandemic has its upsides). I first saw you on Adorama's channel presenting your 'Success with commercial portraits' demo. The majority of my lighting(I primarily do corporate headshots) is based around what you used then, lots of small modifier techniques from Seth Miranda and general light theory from Daniel Norton. OMG!!! Glasses are my nightmare. When I see someone with glasses i cringe. I want to get right it in camera but angle of reflectence doesn't always work. Sometimes the head must be up or sometimes down or the glasses are half a sphere and you didn't get the antiglare coating? Awesome simple tutorial and short. Thanks again, Mark

Hi Gary. Thanks for this! What are your go to setups for shooting to avoid having to do this part?
Mostly you want to position your main light at the right angle to avoid being visible in the lenses from your viewpoint. Angle of incidence comes in to play here, and it just takes a little practice. In some cases, like if you are in a room with loads of windows, there isn't much you can do. Shooting a clean plate shot (without glasses) and swapping the eyes in post is also a good method if you are in a tough spot.
This is great - However, I've tried to use it myself, but the blending is not at smooth as yours in thes video. Will it have something to do with the color of the reflection in the glasses originally? I tend to have more greenish or brighter reflections than magenta?
I think it depends a lot on the color you select to paint with. Unfortunately there isn't a one size fits all technique for this. If I ever get stumped I just send it to Retouchup.com and they fix it for a couple of bucks. Saves a lot of headache to outsource it :)
I can't not find the Frequency Separation tool in photoshop. Mine doesn't have that play button icon on the side that you pressed. Any help?
There isn’t a frequency separation tool, it’s an action. There is a link in the description to a video by Joel Grimes on how to make one :)

ALL glares and reflections such as picture frames?

No I don’t think so, but it might help depending on the specific reflection. You’ll have to try it out
Nice technique. Man, tho you gotta do a bit of color correction on this video. You are looking very red, like the ears of the fellow you fixed... Video idea: your favorite 3 go-to lighting setups for shooting headshots or 3/4 shots.
This is one of my first YT videos and as you might notice, I was definitely still learning how to make videos (I still am really).. my guess is that pretty much any YT channel has a few technical problems with their early efforts
