    Note to railroads: put empty center beams at the end of trains.

      Note to hifijohn. There are countless scenarios where you cannot put empty cars at the end of your train. If you are a road switcher or picking up and setting cars off you often do not have the capability of building the perfectly balanced train. If I have a 50 car 4000 ton train and stop to pick up empties at a customer I am not going to pull 3000 feet of cars past the switch and back into the siding just to get empties on the end.

    Really cool seeing the Mars light on #405 at 4:22! Even though the cover falling off isn't a good look...

    Awesome Catches of these CP Trains and Metra Trains in Franklin Park too with some trains helping too, going slow and also there was a derailment too that workmen were fixing.

    It's a damn good thing that nothing hazardous happened according to CP.

      As a Metra passenger, I assure you that while we may busy ourselves on our phones, this still gets our attention. We know instinctively when the train is going slower than usual. Add to it that conductors generally announce the issue so people know why we might be a few mins late, and you get a trainload of passengers looking out the window, possibly even recording video

    It's shocking how many derailments have been happening recently, even with some in Minnesota too. I assume you heard about the recent runaway Union Pacific train derailment in Kelso, California recently have you Andrew? The train ended up going over 100 miles an hour and was a terrible mess. UP ES44AC 7856 was damaged beyond repair and the crew was reported uninjured.

      Honestly less derailments have been happening its just that the media has been covering them more often do to the big one in February.

    • @BRIANumber7-RCandModels
      @BRIANumber7-RCandModels ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, Kelso was overdue for another derailment. One seems to happen every 17 years or so there. It was about 26 years since the previous one at Kelso, but with modern track improvements instead of derailing 68 out of 75 cars at 72mph like the previous one in 1997, this last one was able to get up to 118mph before derailing and destroyed everything that ran away.

    Could you imagine just watching the trains go by when it just derails what it would feel like?

      I witnessed 1 with my wife in our neighborhood…. The sidings go to factories and businesses. But 1 goes right behind many homes….. my reaction was to 1st alert the policeman who was nearby but he didn’t believe me, and didn’t believe my wife. After that I realized we have to get to the engine so the engineer can stop before it’s a bigger problem.
      I knew if we did nothing, the people in their homes could get seriously hurt or worse..
      It didn’t take long to put the wheels of the last boxcar back on.

    Thank you for posting this video so that we could be aware of what exactly happened when the cars derailed on the Canadian Pacific mixed freight in Franklin Park, Illinois on 26 March 2023, Andrew! You and the crew were in the right place at the right time. I am certain that your coverage of the derailment as it happened is going to be extremely helpful to the authorities in their investigation of this incident. I enjoyed the rest of the video with all the trains that you captured during the rest of the day. I really enjoyed watching the men working to re-rail the center beam flat car. Your coverage of that action was interesting to watch. Too bad the rain started to come down and prompted you to close your operations. I would have liked to have seen how they re-railed the covered hopper car. Did railroad employees direct the re-railing of the cars or was the work directed by a third-party company that Canadian Pacific hired to do the work?

    • @ATrain4014
      @ATrain4014  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Based on what we saw, it look like the cleanup was done by both a third party and Canadian Pacific. -Andrew Mangalindan

    I will never forget my wife and I noticing a derailment at the end of an engine moving 6 box cars around on sidings in our neighborhood.. a policeman didn’t believe us . When he saw my wife and I run to the engine to get the attention of the engineer, the policeman realized oh shit.. plus the siding goes right behind many homes….
    The last box car had its back wheels coming off. Nobody hurt. Didn’t take long to put the wheels back on.
    I still talk with the engineer and his fiance became good friends with my wife.
    If you see something, say something. Even if someone doesn’t believe you. You could be saving someone’s life without them knowing.

    Those center beams are notorious for derailment. When they’re empty they just too light.

    Another train with empties up front. DAMN they got some geniuses working on the railroad nowadays.

    • @cdavid8139
      @cdavid8139 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      another railfan spouting off about something they know nothing about. Yard trains, road trains, locals, switching operations, short lines and countless other scenarios lead to having to put empties on the head end rather than incredibly complicated switching moves to put empties on the end. Railroads run empties on the head end out of necessity thousands of times a day and always have. This isn't a 'nowadays' issue or a matter of 'genius'.
