The story behind this hymn/song is important. John Newton wrote the words from personal experience; he grew up without any particular religious conviction, He was pressed ( conscripted) into service with the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy. When he ended his Newton began studying Christian theology and later became an abolitionist. He was ordained in the Church of England in 1764, and began to write hymns with poet William Cowper. "Amazing Grace" was written to illustrate a sermon on New Year's Day of 1773.

Amazing Grace is special to me and my journey with Jesus Christ aka Almighty God.
It is by His Grace that I am saved and not by my own works lest I should boast. There is no other way to salvation and eternity in Heaven.

I love his rendition. It reminds me of the old black gospel hymns. Now that's soul.
Exactly. It's like a learning a new language. We can learn to communicate pretty well in that language, but this guy is fluent in piano. He doesn't have to think about translating the words, he just knows the words.
For him, the piano is just another appendage. Some people are so talented it's unfair to those of us who are the antithesis of talent.

Hello There Yes I also hated to go to Church when I was very young as I grew a older bit more mature I Love it I Love the Community Church Pot Luck Dinners of course the women alway's knew what each other had plained. I help with the Children durning Services and alway's had them in at the end to pray.
