Sir, you could hold your own against any classically trained singer, so please never hold back on performing any song! I am in awe of your mastery of so many amazing instruments ancient and modern, and your voice is pure joy to hear. Please keep posting these moving performances!
Hi Justin, I devised the "tibicen" to be used alone with voice, and not as part of an ensemble of other instruments but somehow that's not what I ended up doing in this vid! When I get a chance, I'll do another video with voice and tibicen ONLY so you can see how versatile it is.
There's just something about the sounds of Celtic music (bagpipes) that warms the heart! You're so right about the poem and song, Peter.... so very glad you shared it (and the Scottish artists) with us! But what pleases the ears the most, is that God-given instrument of yours... your voice! So happy to hear you sing... again!!! Several thumbs up!!!
Thanks Peter, from a 72 yr old Welsh accordionist. An interesting introduction to the instrument, and a lovely sound, with your voice. Keep playing and thanks from Frank in Bristol.
Hello Peter. I only discovered your recordings on Saturday, but what a delight they are. Where can I get some of your cds? Please do a UK tour & COME TO LIVERPOOL, but resist the temptation to do Beatles songs. We get Beatled to death hear & you're far better than that. Gordon Charters.
Well, dear Mr Peter Pringle... I guess you heard smth like that before, but I'll say it nevertherless - you're one of the most amazing musisans and instrument makers. And your recent Egyptian Love Song is the best interpretation of the kind in this province. Thank You!
Love the sound of that instrument. I play the bagpipes, but found out the same as you that only having one volume setting (LOUD) makes it hard to play in certain settings. I built myself an electronic bagpipe using a electronic chanter and a small battery operated amp. Sounds great and is very versatile.
My grandparents are native born Scots. My grandpa Burns always told me as a wee lad about a famous Scottish poet we were related to named Robert Burns. I really wish I could've shared this with him
I have just listened to about ten different renditions of this beautiful song, searching for just that perfect performance, and this is it! It is the most emotionally moving and absolutely fantastic listening experience! I'm blown away by the beauty of the singing and the accompanying instrument. Bagpipes are awesome, but this is amazingly awesome. Thank you! Is there a CD available? Please!
Ae fond kiss and then we sever Ae fareweel and then forever Deep in heart wrung tears i'll pledge thee Warring sighs and groans i'll wage thee Wha should say that fortune grieves him While the star of hope she leaves him? Me nae cheerfu' twinkle lights me Dark despair around benights me Had we never loved sae kindly Had we never loved sae blindly Never met or never parted We would ne'er be broken hearted Fare-thee-weel thou first and fairest Fare-thee-weel thou best and dearest Thine be ilke joy and treasure Peace enjoyment love and pleasure
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, and then forever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee. Who shall say that Fortune grieves him, While the star of hope she leaves him? Me, nae cheerfu' twinkle lights me; Dark despair around benights me. I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy, Naething could resist my Nancy; But to see her was to love her; Love but her, and love forever. Had we never lov'd sae kindly, Had we never lov'd sae blindly, Never met-or never parted- We had ne'er been broken-hearted. Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest! Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest! Thine be ilka joy and treasure, Peace. enjoyment, love, and pleasure! Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, alas, forever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee!
I loved that piece, and the instrument - Superb. What powers the tibicen? I presume this is a reed instrument with some form of pump / compressor you are controlling - but I dont hear any backgound noise..
Nice singing! I kind of don't like that instrument (but I'm not a bagpipes fan either), but your voice fit this nicely! It has, at times, a Jon Denver-ish quality that I enjoy immensely. :)

Beautiful. I love how you use overtones with special words. How much to purchase a tibicen?

Do you ever make these to sell? If so, how much plus shipping? Can they be tuned a little higher?
Loved this! But I wonder if a hurdy gurdy with a less resonant body could accomplish the same goal?
A very impressive performance! Just missing your broad smile at the end...
