this is 1959 I was not born until 1962. my father was in that crowd jumping up somewhere. He is 82 years old and not in good health . I shall keep this to remind me of my father when he has gone.

That was true talent and excellent craftsmanship.
Now is wine and jam more than talent.

Sad that time slowly eroded real carnival feeling. :(

It is difficult to watch this with dry eyes. The art form of costume design by George Bailey and Harold Saldenah have been lost. The people knew how to enjoy themselves back then. They are having so much fun.

Back when carnival was a decent festival...quite unlike the lewdness of the modern form

I agree that it was a decent festival...Now with the thrash they are displaying is making GOD CRY.....They should be charged for indecent exposure. They have chased the tourist away even in NY...Shame! Shame!

What's gone and lost is not coming back sadly the beauty culture togetherness and happiness is no more I remember when George Bailey died I was a kid and was real cry and asking in innocence who is going to bring bands not knowing there were more leaders

"dat yankee accent" was one of a few choice journalists like Wilfred A. Lee, Emory Cook and a couple of other "Yanks" that made some excellent docu's and recordings of T&T's history, along with other islands. So glad for folks like them!

Wow love this.. They made face mask of the foreigners that came to the island long ago Just like they did in mexico. Now such a mixed culture. Its nice they incorporated the new people in their culture. They were making egyptian crowns and harder and stuff

I have noticed that there were spectators in those days. No TVs. No shorts, bikinis or bras, lol.

Yesteryear carnival was more enjoyable and yes golden days sure gone by with beautiful costumes..but now a days the costumes are out off controls yes some bands still have the decency to the costumes but most of them still have too much exposing of body parts

Without the photographers and the voice overs the footage would not exist. Cameras were not common, film and were expensive so those were from others countries were the fim makers. This was starndard English and accepted by most educated countries, even if it sounded strange then. Some of it had to do with sound quality. If only carnival were still like this now. Drink, beads and acres of skin get somewhat boring.
