I visited Mombasa back in 2021 and I wish I had this tour guide to show me the many places in Mombasa that I didn't get to enjoy. Somehow your channel came into my feed and I'm glad I click on it to watch. I have subscribed and I am now a fan. Continue to put out good content for the world 🌎 to see.

Your guide is obsessed with foreigners. He is crediting them with everything.
Swahili language is predominantly Bantu (93%). The rest is divided between Persian, Arabic, Portuguese, Indian, Chinese, Javanese, Malay, British, German etc. Swahili culture is African and all these foreigners were assimilated.
Most people in Mombasa are also actually Christians. This is according to the last census in 2019. Arabic usage is quite low to non-existent since most local Arabs are intermixed with locals and assimilated into Swahili culture.
Mombasa's old names are Kongowea, Gongwa, Nyale and Mwambadza.
I would say Mombasa and Swahili culture and accent is more Miji Kenda ( a coastal Bantu tribe which means Nine Clans).
Maybe research more so that you aren't lied to by overexcited guides.

Point of correction: Most if not all the slaves from that place were taken to Middle East and may be India. The ones taken to the Carribbean, South america and North America were from west Africa and Angola. Another difference is on who carried out the trade: Europeans in West Africa while it was Arabs in East Africa

The Arabs were the slave traders in the East Coast of Africa. They keep trying to dostort history and blaming it on the Europeans yet they were much worse.

As a student of African History, I studied the Arab-Muslim Invasion of North Africa, and the eventual conquest and colonization of other parts of Africa. I don't recall that Mombassa was one of the areas that was invaded, conquered and controlled. I appreciate your video . . .it has broaden my knowledge in terms of how revolutionary the Arab-Muslim invasion was. I did not realized that they also occupied the East Coast of Africa.
I will like to speculate that Mombassa could have been built around 400-500 AD, if I remember correctly from my BA studies in History. According to my studies, the Arab-Muslim invasion of Northern Africa started in and around 200-300 AD and moving downward to the West coast of Africa and East Coast.
I gather that you are a historian and I will like to request If you can provide me with any reference or documentation of the Arab-Muslim occupation of Mombassa. Or on the Arab-Muslim involvement in the Enslavement of African people. I did a random search on Google and found information dating from 600AD and not earlier. I will greatly appreciate your support.
Thank you in advance. @drcherylcottle, writing from Canada.
