      I think it's good katara never did heal his face. for years he considered it a reminder that he dishonored himself for not being like his father. now to him, it's a badge of honor that he isn't like his father or any fire bender that hates other benders, and now that's ok for him. +scar or no scar, chicks dig him

      well I'm guessing Eric is trying to keep it under 10 minutes. It just so happens he had like 5 seconds left without cutting anything. But maybe they didn't react to that situation at all, which would be weird, and that is why it is cut.
      It is my favorite moment because for a kid's show you see genuine fear in Toph. Especially for her charcter, that's significant.

    How Aang defeats the firelord is so perfect, to me. He's the last of the air nomads, he represents every cultural tradition and belief that the fire nation worked so hard to exterminate, and in the very end it's that compassion and unbendable goodness that comes back to defeat them.
    Also I love the kind of symbolism of Aang's energy being almost swallowed down to a pinprick and then coming back, like a mirror of the journey of the nomads. Yes I do cry.

    • @isbammoi3358
      @isbammoi3358 4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      It's perfect to me as well. It feels like a poetic justice, the Firelord felt like the most powerful, with all of that at his fingertips, only for his fate to have all of it taken away from him, left alive in that agony which I imagine for him is a fate worse than death.

    "Iroh had the easy job"
    Iroh might have had the easiest physical job, BUT he had the hardest emotional job.
    The last time he fought for Ba Sing Se was to conquer it for the Fire Nation. But then his son passed away and he broke, emotionally. And then lost Ba Sing Se.
    Seeing Iroh burn away the Fire Nation symbol, which he once was so proud of being there, really symbolizes how much he changed. So, no, I don't agree on Iroh having the easy job. You could see how much it meant to him, since it probably made him think of his son...

    • @-Silent_G-
      @-Silent_G- 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Personally, I see Iroh breaking through the walls of Ba Sing Se as a summary of his character growth. He spent his younger years inexperienced and biased towards the fire nation and tried to break through the wall with his army as a general. At the end, we see a man who has grown so much as a person and has learned so much in his life that all he needs is himself to break through the walls of an impenetrable, not to destroy it, but to free it. He made up for all of his major mistakes in his life by doing this and could finally be at peace with himself knowing that he saved the very thing he had tried to destroy and that he had helped bring an end to the war that killed his son. Iroh buring those flags was just symbolism for buring his mistakes away.

    • @aeris44
      @aeris44 6 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      I love Aang but I have to agree Aang didn't find it. The solution was given to him, it wasn't as earned. However I do get that he did learn energybending after deciding he had to kill Ozai. It's reflective later when Aang teaches Korra: "When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change." Killing would be the hardest thing Aang would have had to do.
      However, I still agree it was convenient for him. This is why I feel Katara and Zuko are the most developed characters in this series. And (oh boy I'ma hear it but I'll put my boxing gloves on) why I feel Korra is more developed as a protagonist.

    • @aeris44
      @aeris44 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Rick Jones The build up for Aang appearing was actually present in the season with Korra connectkng with him more and more. She literally says something like Ok Aang I'm hearing you. And her learning energybending comes in the resolution of the season where Aang comes to help before the conflict is even resolved.
      It being surprising does not mean convenient when Korra had actually worked on reaching out of him.

      The lion turtle gave him the power to get rid of Ozai’s power because he heard him conversing with the previous Avatars and even after hearing them all out he still didn’t want to kill Ozai. The lion turtle saw that his intentions were pure.

    Azula had a full on mental break by the point she was chained up. I don't think she had the mental capabilities to think of it. Her story is so tragic to me, so young and poisoned by her father. Her hair was great symbolism too. When we first saw her she wouldn't do a thing with a hair out of place, but when she lost all control her hair became wild and she chopped it haphazardly.
    And Aang's fight with the Phoenix King was pure badass. I still remember my awe when I first watched it. And I love how he basically created an atom shape out of the elements, so freaking cool

    "100 years of fighting has left the world scarred and divided. But with the Avatar's help, we can get it back on the right path, and begin a new era of love and peace." I just realized that Zuko might as well be talking about himself. He was scarred and on the wrong path, fighting to regain his honor and not caring about anything or anyone. But being with Aang and his friends put him on the right path, sending him into an era of peace and love.

That moment in Avatar always gave me chills in a bad way, because it gives you such a feeling of despair like all hope is lost. Especially when Toph starts crying thinking this is the end. It was like that moment in Toy Story 3 when they all thought they were going to die by the flames. Anyways, Korra here we come.

      *aang found a way!* and believe it or not, that other *way* included having to prove all the experts *wrong!* guru pathik...when he warned aang that to unlock the final chakra thereby granting him control over the avatar state, he had to let go of his love for katara...even with avatar roku, yangchen and his countless other past lives telling aang to compromise his spirit and kill the firelord, he persisted in his search for a better solution. some will call the sudden appearance of the lion turtle this show's biggest deus ex machina but i see it more as the *universe* sensing aang's dilemma and simply providing *another option.* which could be the reason the LT didn't come to any of the avatars before...they only became fully realized avatars in *adulthood,* making them so sure of their decisions, while aang being so young, still questioned everything. ironically, youth and inexperience was seen by ozai as so much of a weakness that he didn't even plan for the avatar's disruption, turned out to be key not only in the battle to stop the firelord but also aang's own spiritual journey to *find his destiny* as the last airbender forcing him to literally *redefine* what it meant to be the avatar for any that would succeed him... #2deep ;) LIKE# 6658

    One of my favorite lesser mentioned arcs is that of Ti Lee. In the beach the story she tells about having six identical sisters and struggling to be her own person really helps the viewer empathize with her, but the fact that her last line in the show is that she and the Kioshi warriors will be best friends is so fitting. Her growth from a child struggling with identity and self into a young adult choosing her place in a group who dresses and paints themselves identically is such a good arc. It’s often overlooked because of how many other fantastic arcs for other more major characters there are, but hers is one of my favorites.

    Some people say the ending to this episode was stupid because Aang didn't kill the Fire Lord. This has been discussed in the episode commentary for this episode by the co-creators. The reason why Aang did what he did was because the world had been at war for a hundred years. Countless lives were lost as a result, and would it have been right to end the conflict by adding to the cycle of killing? To this day, I say no; I think how Aang chose to end this was the best possible way he could.

    My first and last comment for this series reaction: thank you so much for reacting to ATLA, Blind Wave crew! Like many here this was one of the reasons why my childhood was such a joy to reminisce.
    The resolution to Ozai's defeat was satisfying for me as well. When I first saw it I thought energy-bending looked so cool and Aang was taught a new technique that we'd never seen before. Then after re-watching ATLA for who-knows-how-many-times I've come to really respect Aang and the kind of person he was after all this.
    Because Aang was the Avatar and he performed amazing feats here and there we forget that he was a 12-year-old boy who had 12-year-old wants like playing and having a crush. Any kid from any of the four nations would have been just as happy-go-lucky as Aang was but the fact that he was an airbender and that air was the element of freedom added much more to his personality being a little too carefree at times. He had grown up so much through the entire series but the one thing that never changed is that he respected all life from his core. Now there lay the problem because he definitely needed to do something against Firelord Ozai and the only solution that had been presented to him was to kill him. Zuko even went as far as "take his life before he takes yours."
    Now Aang realized that he couldn't be that carefree kid anymore because not only was his own life at stake but the entire world. The impending danger was all too real that even something as ancient as the Lion-turtle came to Aang's aid because the balance in the world was being seriously threatened. In my opinion, the Lion-turtle taught him the technique of energy-bending because it saw in Aang's core being that he was desperately trying to find a way to stop the threat without killing. The past Avatars were all willing to end their foes and I think because of that, the Lion-turtle didn't need to teach them the technique.
    Energy-bending required that the Avatar's spirit was "un-bendable" or it will be corrupted and destroyed and this is exactly why the technique was perfect for Aang because despite everybody telling him to kill he stayed true to his core being, meaning his resolve was un-bendable and so the technique worked for him. This is why the ending was satisfying for me, because I came appreciate Aang's strength of character.
    Okay that was longer than I intended LOL but again, thank you Blind Wave crew! Sad that there'll be no more ATLA reactions to look forward to but you are just getting started on FMA:B which is another favorite of mine so it's all good! :D

    Now that's how you roar like an angry tigerdillo. That roar honestly gave me immense chills, because of how epic and horrifying it looked and sounded. Aang in the Avatar State was just terrifying, most especially when you see everything shaking with all the elements coming to him like that. And the music, god the music! Just perfect!!
    Katara freezing herself and Azula was epic AF!! To be frank, I was scared as shit as a kid because I thought that now meant she was going to be like Aang...frozen forever in ice...then I remembered she was a waterbender LOL
    Azula crying like a baby just showed how broken she was in the end. Her father molded her into a powerful weapon he could use and in the end, she became a broken weapon.
    I loved Zuko's speech at the end! It was not only satisfying to hear him officially end the war and to look to the future, but he's come so far from that angry angsty teen that was at war with himself and the world.
    God, what a journey this was! I already feel empty again... No matter how many times I rewatch and finish ATLA, I'll always have that same empty feeling after. Anyways, I'm really glad to have gone on this journey again with you guys. I loved watching you all grow to love the show and characters as I and many others had 12 years ago. This show was something special and I'm glad you can appreciate it with us now :)
    And yes, I agree! Even though a part of me wanted more, I still felt fully satisfied by the overall ending and not a lot of shows does that for me. Makes ATLA even more special for me.

    Movie? What movie? There's no movie. Avatar: The Last Airbender never got a movie. It's a shame, really. I'd think that it would be a good movie. But it never got a movie. Nope. No movie adaptation at all. Someone should do that, though. Because there is no movie. No ATLA movie.

      actually M. Night Shyamalan who directed The Sixth Sense made a film loosely based the show's first season and it was released in 2010. i suggest you give it a watch. it's not made by the same people, it's rather an adaptation for his audience. Some things are done uniquely though so i'd definitely recommend seeing it for interests sake

    Azula's breakdown is my favorite scene from any TV show ever.
    She completely and totally SNAPS, and being helpless is the most horrendous thing that has ever happened to her, and AT THE SAME TIME she realizes that she lost to Zuko again, as she did her whole life until his exile, and she's so unhinged and angry and deeply sad and DERANGED that all she can do is scream and cry and sob and hope to burn everything that ruined her to ash - the ice cold witch of the Fire Nation, reduced to a defeated, crying, lunatic child.
    And that's why Azula is my favorite character in my favorite show of all time.

    For the love of all that is holy, don't subjugate yourself to such a vile piece of cinematic trash. Calvin is wrong, it's totally not fine on its own, it still suffers from poor acting, some of the worst direction I've ever seen, lazy and laughable choreography, terrible cinematography, crappy effects that looked fake as shit even when the movie released, cringy dialogue, one dimensional characters, and huge pacing issues. I wouldn't say it's better than TLoA, but it's still a good show in it's own right. Even just for how it expands on the Avatar universe and history. It's written for an older audience, and tends to have darker themes than TLoA, I think my favorite part is how they expanded the bending forms to be influenced by more modern styles (like boxing, MMA etc.).

    • @egomz123

      Ali Irfan I'm sorry your friends mislead you, but I understand where they may be coming from, when you start watching it you can't stop comparing it to TLA, and the first season might feel odd, because you still want to know more about aang and Co, but once you get over that hump you realize what a great show Korra is. Hope you give it a try, cheers.

What happened, how they feel, everything! then there is the choreography of 10 minutes so they can move a tiny stone! Anyone can go and punch them in the face before they manage to move something, COME ON! Even as a separate movie, it's still shit!

    • @jacobmonks3722

      Lonkinella I think he means it would be harmless. It definitely wouldn't be "fine." The movie would mostly just fly under the radar if Avatar was not attached to it and it was just a poorly made fantasy movie, kind of like Lady in the Water. But, it's called The Last Airbender, so it will forever be a tainted, ugly part of this incredible franchise.

  • @imaaduddin7715
    @imaaduddin7715 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I would like to thank Eric, Aaron, Calvin and Shane for watching this incredible show and letting us experience this show most of us loved since our childhoods through your eyes. I really enjoyed your reactions they were always amazing, so sad they're over now, and I'm really glad that you guys loved the show, it is truly one of the greatest cartoon ever, it is the greatest in my opinion.
    I love this show because it made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me think. It showed me the world is ugly as it can be, but also that every moment, no matter how bad, can be a moment worth remembering. It showed people of different genders and castes, each with their own stories to tell. Yet all of them came together, either through luck or assumed destiny. A show which takes you through an entire world, makes you meet people, care about them and teaches you the value of forgiveness and friendship. This is what makes ATLA one of the best shows ever created for me. The ending may have been satisfying to some, but I really wanted more to be honest, I wasn't satisfied completely and I always have this empty feeling whenever I rewatch the show, but it is what it is, still a phenomenal show! I really do wish people take the show more seriously because it really is more than "just a cartoon."
    I loved the whole parallel between Aang, Zuko and Katara of how they all had a chance to kill someone but they didn't. Aang with Ozai, Zuko with Admiral Zhao and Katara with Yon Rha, I just found that to be really cool.
    Azula's breakdown/downfall is done so well here, I always felt so bad for her when she was crying and screaming out blue flames, you can tell Zuko and Katara also felt really bad for her they just looked at her very sadly, they weren't happy and didn't celebrate at all after the defeated Azula, they just felt really bad for her.
    Also did anyone find it really cheap on how Aang opened his final chakra to get into the Avatar State? He basically did just by hitting a rock. I thought this completely took away what we saw from "The Guru" episode and the whole philosophical depth of that episode, really wished he opened it in a better way that would make more sense and actually connect with that episode.
    Zuko's Fire Lord ceremony was really cool too and also very different from his forefathers. No fire was lit anywhere and the ceremony happened during the day time and also no one bowed down to Zuko like people did before with his forefathers, also I loved how people from every Nation attended.
    You guys should read the comics, it will answer some of your questions, I personally do not like the comics for many reasons and for the movie well no one likes that haha and I doubt you guys will too when you watch it.
    And Aaron, there was supposed to be a Book 4, but it was cancelled because they sold the rights to Paramount and decided to make a movie series, each movie was supposed to be based off the 3 Books of ATLA, but we all know how the first movie went, it was terrible and I doubt their plan of making a movie trilogy will ever continue because the first movie was so bad, they should've just made another Book for the show, everyone would have preferred that.
    Please do Legends of Korra, that is a really good show and I'm really looking forward for you guys reaction to that show!
    Toph's line which is also the last line from the show "Well I think you all look perfect!" really gets me every time. 😭

    I was so pleasantly surprised when I watched this episode the first time. I expected it to end like a lot of cartoons or kids movies where the hero doesn’t kill the bad guy but he’ll still fall of a tower or be turned on by his minions or some other way to dispose of him without it technically being the hero’s fault. But this was refreshingly different: the hero took an active role in disarming and neutralizing the villain, while also not resorting to violence. Really beautiful and powerful.
