In rural IL at our Aldi it is a mix. Fresh produce and cases of soda and various drinks are on the floor on pallets. Chips, breads, pantry items, etc are all on shelving like a normal grocery store.
IDK what type of Aldi is on California, but in Ohio our Aldi is beautiful and shelved like a nice grocery store. It's the best place for groceries in this economy! Don't knock Aldi, They are the Best!
Here in Indiana ours is set up just like a grocery store. No pallets. Also if you don't have a quarter all you have to do is tell them and they will give you one.
The shock of having to use a coin for the cart is so funny to me, since that's the norm in most of Europe - only, recently shops have left the carts free, because people are accustomed to returning them anyways.
Most stores in America have carts that stop once they get a certain distance from the store. The wheels will lock up. Probably why it's not very common, it's free too!
Right? Both that and people bagging your groceries, like, I've only seen grocery stores bag someone's groceries for them if they're really old or disabled. 😅
Hi! I don't usually shop at Aldi's, but because of the episode where they tried gluten free items, I now go there and get the gluten free pizza that they tried. I didn't realize Aldi's had so many gluten free options, so I appreciate them opening my eyes to new things. Aldi's has a new customer all because of Sporked and GMM!
Rhett and Link always have such a snobby attitude about Aldi, like it's outrageous that they incentivise you to return your cart yourself. I love Aldi because it's so much easier to find what you need than the millions of options at other stores.
I love it too but I didn't love setting it up all by myself, or with only one other person, until 1 or 2 am and coming back to work at 6 am to unload 25 pallets of groceries in 3 hours💀💀💀
Funny story to answer your question Rhett. I was an Area manager for Aldi stores in Scotland. We were given a company car which was an Audi A4. I always found this amusing.

Yeah, our parking lots at shopping plazas tend to be minor cart chaos on any given day 😮💨 It can get really chaotic in bad weather. If people don’t put their carts in with the others, it’ll blow around in strong wind or get stuck in a snow bank or iced into a gutter
The only store in the US that I saw with coin carts before 2000 was Costco and they don’t even do that anymore. Part of the problem is that US currency doesn’t have dollar coins (or higher) in real circulation like in Europe. So people don’t carry around coins in general if they can avoid it.
