Rome is fking wild man. i was there last month and everyone kept saying "whatever you do, don't take a taxi." they even have signs up in places to try to help people determine the "real" taxis

It's just a fake taxi, they are everywhere.
For those who are saying they were about to get sex trafficked, chances of that from this story are very very slim (why would a sex trafficker throw you out a car for vomiting? they wouldn't care about it), but I am glad you all think about that stuff! It keeps you safe! :)

I’m sorry you had to live this situation and that was definitely an illegal taxi! There are signs everywhere saying to avoid this kind of cars but I know that the city is really disorganised so it is far way to easy to fall in one of this scams if you are a tourist or a foreigner! I’m living currently in Rome, it’s my 8 year here ( I’m from the south of Italy ) and also if I’m Italian, the first years where really difficult! It’s a beautiful city but unfortunately has a lot of problems

This happened to me and my dad after a Paris soccer game. There were taxis everywhere but they were all reserved for other people. One man singled for us to get in. Shortly after getting In the car my dad realized it wasn’t a taxi or a Uber like he said he was. He was charging us more then a normal Uber and when you searched up his name on Uber nothing popped up. Unlike this story the guy was nice and dropped us off at our hotel.

I also noticed B Q commented a bunch of times and I agree, s/he sounds butthurt xD I'm from Colombia so I understand what it's like to not want foreigners to think your country is dangerous, but sometimes the danger is real and that needs to be acknowledged. It's not responsible to be telling people who might visit your country that everything is fine (it isn't no matter what country we're talking about), it's best if they know what they might face and how to stay safe.

I had a situation occur to me when i was abroad and strangers wanted me to go to thier house and chat to thier family about thier child moving to the country that i am from. I immediately felt like it was a bad idea and never gave them my number and as i was in a mall told these people i was meeting a friend and so i left. Turns out a week later a tourist in the same city i went to was given the same treatment but was drugged at the home and all thier belongings were stolen

Reading the comments it's crazy to me what people think about Italy, like yes there is the mafia, but I think it probably does more damage in other countries. Like human trafficking, chill, it's actually very uncommon here; and unlike many people apparently think Italy is actually a really safe country, at least not much more dangerous than the USA. One time (also in rome) we took what seemed like a normal taxi. We hopped on the car, and the dude asks my mom (she was the only one who knew italian) where we were going. We told him, and we were off. He starts talking, and seemed like a nice guy. Then he sees my mom's phone and says "you need a charger?" My mom says its ok, but the guy insists and my mom then agrees. He continued the conversation, and when we arrived, he dropped us off somewhat quickly, almost kicking us out. Then my mom realized her phone was still there. She panicked, and my dad called my moms phone. By then, the dude had factory reset it. We tried reporting it to the taxi company, but it didnt work. Idk if the dude actually stole it, or we just forgot to take it and the guy didnt notice.
Either way, dont fall for it. Dont be like us
