    Muslims architecture at that time was so advanced for the time. They were so learned. This looks so timeless.

      They’re brainiacs, I went to Istanbul a couple of years ago and I could hardly believe how ahead of their time they were. Indeed like the video mentioned, while the rest of Europe was sleeping during the dark ages these guys were flourishing. I can’t wait to visit Granada this year and learn more!

    Thank you for the video. I just wanted to clarify the usual misconception that Spain was conquered by the moors. In fact, Spain was conquered by troops under the rule of the Umayyad from Syria. The Umayyad dynasty remained in power in Spain for 300 years, after which Muslim Spain was fragmented into several kingdoms, one of which Granada. Another one was the kingdom of Zaragoza from which period another lovely palace, Aljaferia, still remains.

Many parts of West Africa was very rich at this time and was Islamic. Mansa Musa of ancient Mali is the richest man in all of human history, GOOGLE IT. He was the king of the vast kingdom of Mali ,controlling all the gold and salt that ended up in Europe and the Middle East. These rich kings of West Africa were in alliance with the Sultans from North Africa. They took over Spain together as Muslims from Africa. All of this was chronicled meticulously by rem with the information translated in any language you can read. The described the people living in Andalusia and where they came from with precision. It's not AL-Hambra, it's Al-Hamra, which means the red (for a female) . It was named after the ruler of Gharnata (Granada) who's last name is Al-Ahmar (the red, for a male) from the tribe of Bani Al-Ahmar. The castle was built with the moroccan architecture under the moroccan rule of Al-Andalous by Marinids and Hafsids. This is what Ibn al-Khatib mentioned in his book, he mentioned how the Marinids and Hafsids sent subsidies to build the palace.

      You are not a Moor. You are a Turk, who speaks the native language of the Maghreb Amazigh, or Arabic. Your genetics are probably descended from Ottoman Empire conquest of the Maghreb in the early 16th century long after the real "Moors" were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula. The word Moor is anglicized from μαύρος (mauros) which still means black in Greek today. Plus there are tons of Moor faces on European family's Coats of arms today, including Pope Benedict XVI, as well as many depictions in renaissance art for you to see them in their natural swarthy beauty. So you're right you are not a Moor. But, the people who ruled parts of the Iberian Peninsula from 711-1492 and who built the Alhambra were.

      Lol no , you're mistaking the word Moor and blackamoor
      Moor or Maur is the name given by the Visigoths to the Muslim invaders that attacked them from what was previously known as the " Kingdom of Mauritania " .
      The invaders however where not "Mauritanian " as the Berbers (Not Negroid) that inhabited the kingdom where recent converts to Islam and where not intructed with the invasion.
      The invasion if the Iberian peninsula was under the hand of Tariq ibn ziyad , a Berber born in Algeria.
      Spain even gave back his sword to the Algerians in 2002 and is currently in the military museum of Algiers.
      The discription of blacks at that time was "Ethiopians " . Maur or Moor was the name given to north African Muslims that invaded the Iberian peninsula.
      Many Taifas where controled by Berbers from Algeria as well , such as the Ifrinids that held some land (I don't remember where ) and the Zayanids that held the Taifa of Grand as their vassal.

    Great video. Note that Australian bank debit and credit Visa and Mastercard cards won't work for buying tickets online. There are no other options than to pay by card. It was very frustrating spending days trying to buy a ticket and then watching available tickets dwindle down to 0 for the morning slots. I had to buy the much more expensive Granada card. Lots of posts on the internet over many years about this and still nothing has been done to rectify it. Some people have success with an Amex card.

    A quick question : Since in islamic culture, people refrain from representing living creatures, why is there the palace of the LIONS? plz answer

    • @EricAzares
      @EricAzares  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question. From what I understand, it's tradition to refrain from representations of living creatures in a religious setting such as in a temple or mosque. However, in secular (non-religious) settings, such as privates homes and palaces, you will often see paintings of people and carvings of animals.

      It is said that he lions were the symbols of the twelve most powerful families that suported the kings of Granada until its fall. And yes, you're rigth...So I hope this helps to understand. Also the columns can represent the palm trees of Heavens...In fact, some Mozarabes (Christians that lived under muslim rule) adopted the palm tree as a metaphor of the Tree of Life.

      The muslims of Andalucia were very relaxed compared to other places. They did not follow the rules of the Koran to the letter. They drank wine and ate pork. There are many Andalusian poems about wine.
