    This is the exact reason I purchased a mint 2006 LX470. It goes up 2” in high mode and another .5” if in low range. Then you bring it back down to normal height for road driving. At 70mph it lowers 1 inch from stock height automatically. It’s pretty awesome, and has adjustable dampeners via a selector above the height control switch. Recently I replaced all the accumulator globes and leveled out the truck since it hadn’t been done ever in its 17 years so now the ride is basically perfect. a stock LX will fit 33.1” tires with zero rubbing. I have 275/70/18 KO2s on mine. One other neat thing is the auto leveling. If you load down the back with weight, it will adjust itself up to a max of 1200lbs of payload, then it just shits the bed.

      The LX platform is incredible overall, I'm a big fan!

      @@CanadianGearhead it’s the first 4wd vehicle I’ve ever had and we’ve been taking it up mountain trails in Virginia. I’m trying to build it out properly as a touring vehicle to go visit the US national parks and British Columbia.

    Most people lift their vehicle to clear the speed bumps.

    This Vid is good info. I have a 2014 4Runner. Installed a 3" Old Man Emu lift. I also upgraded to 285/70/17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires. The ride is a bit better but I lost 2MPG. I had bad mileage before now 14-15 all around. It does look better and is far better off-road. Hard to improve on the factory set up.

    Great video.
    I must admit, the 2.5” of lift on my 2018 4R along with my 285’s (and probably all the crap I’m carrying in and on to of it) have totally killed any semblance of decent fuel economy. I’m almost 16L/100 but it’s the price I pay to have a truck that I L❤️VE

    Absolutely #10 great tip. We just let a local shop (reputable, also used by car dealers here) to do the lift for my 4Runner. A suspension upgrade for the Tundra lately costed $720 for labor but it only takes mechanics half a day to do these kind of jobs. 😅 Hiring a professional may be best, and also for safety?

    Thanks for the video, very informative. I have a 07 4Runner Limited I want to lift about 2 inches. Given the age of my truck, I will probably have to replace my lower control arms...the cam bolts get seized ( In Calgary...lots of snow and salt on roads). Did you replace your lca? If so, what kind did you buy?

    • @CanadianGearhead
      @CanadianGearhead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup that's exactly what happened to mine. It was cheaper to just buy all new LCAs that came with bushings installed. I think they were from 1A Auto?

    In terms of 4runner lifts, I highly recommend a panhard bar relocation mount if you are lifting your forerunner 2 inches or more. I recently installed a Dr.KDSS bolt on mount on my 4th gen and it made a world of difference.

      Does it affect clearance ?

    • @tikkashane513
      @tikkashane513 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BlazingFaith1945 not at all. It bolts into your factory panhard mounting hole and the rest of the mount sits above that creating a higher mounting point for the panhard bar, leveling it to factory position or very close. I'm lifted 2.5 in the rear and after installing the Dr.KDSS mount my ph bar is dead level.

      @@BlazingFaith1945 DR KDSS has an install video up on his TH-cam channel. Super easy install. My only recommendation is to complete grind off the brake line tab he says to clearance for the washer on the back of the new mounting bolt. I clearanced mine quit a bit and it wasn't enough so I just ground it off. It's not really usable after install anyway.

    Don't forget to regear stock gears to 4.88 or 5.29 when going 35 inch tires.

    OK, let an old off-roader (dating back to the 1960's with Dick Cepek, Mickey Thompson, Phil Rusche and others), during the beginning of Baja, educate you on the truth about lifting a vehicle.
    1. The wide fat tire was created for soft sand in the desert and dunes. It was KNOWN that skinny tires got better traction.
    2. Lift kits were created to prevent cutting the fender wells so BIGGER tires could be used.
    3. Lifting a vehicle changes the geometry of the vehicle especially the center of gravity (not good), add a roof rack with a couple hundred pounds (really not good), go on a trail fully loaded and (really, really not good).
    4. Bigger tires change the gearing and therefore (with modern computer controlled vehicles) give the computer false information and performance goes down.
    5. IFS suspensions are affected in very negative ways and require many more components be replaced than just the lift components. In my opinion most of these lifts are dangerous and will cause excessive stress and very costly maintenance (which most people will not do) and frequent replacement of various parts.
    6. All lifts ride worse, and are usually extremely stiff, unless engineered with a "progressive spring rate".
    I could say much more but I think I have burst the lift kit bubble enough for now. What do I drive and how is it set up you ask? 2012 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with 255/75R 17 tires (32 inches tall and 10 inches wide) 1/2" taller and 1/2 inch narrower than stock. Suspension unchanged except for Bilstein shocks, 4.56 gears and excellent UNDER ARMOR!
    Then?
    Learn how to drive off-road!

      Bryan Lutz makes speedo correctors so #4 is negated a fair amount especially when paired with the larger engines like the 2UZ-FE
