This is wrong because I have a pet chameleon and when I put it on a new color of branch, it completely matched the color of the branch.
For camouflage because it was hiding from me.

I was taught that chameleons change their color to match their environment.

I have a chameleon as a pet and they are the coolest animal out there! Their colors, tongue, eyes and general behavior is just the best! They're hard to take care of but they are so so so worth the effort! I just absolutely love my little guy!

How are they hard to take care of? Just asking out of curiosity
@CovertPhilosopher once you get everything set up and figured out it isn't hard, it's just basic cleaning and picking up poop and feeding the right amount. But chameleons require a very high humidity and it's hard to maintain that humidity, especially since I live in a place with no humidity, and the humidity has to be almost 100% at night, also you have to make the cage in a way to where certain parts are hotter than others, and you have to use live plants and branches so you have to be able to keep the plants alive, and they require a very specific diet and vitamin routine. This is just the tip of the iceberg haha, there's a lot!
Imagine the tongue shoots your eye why am I so nervous of that happening imagine the pain lmao.

I used to have a small chameleon as a pet when I was a kid. He’d just sit on my shoulder as I moved around, or he’d sit on my stomach and sleep. I miss that pet.

@@christopherfeatherley hmm, no I haven’t given it much consideration since he died about 16 years ago; I haven’t owned any reptiles since then.
Up until 2022 I didn’t have any pets, although I now own one cat that my mom found as a kitten alone in the woods.

@@prestonowens4594 That's so funny. That's a similar story to how my best friend got his cat: his mum got her from the shelter because she was a rescue, and at firsy he didn't like the kitten much, but eventually she chose him to be her human, and now they're inseparable 😁

For your information, many of these pictures and some videos are edited to change the actual colour. Chameleons are rarely pure blue or purple

I still see videos of chameleons changing to match their environment so I did some research and it turns out they can change to blend in but that’s only one of the reasons. They also change for the reasons you mentioned in the video.

All the chameleons I've ever seen were camouflaged to their environment. We had them in our school orchard (fenced) and students that spotted them would spend a lot of time trying to show them to others.
