I think a big reason on why the run game hasn’t been as good when Mertz is in at QB is because opposing defenses are not afraid to get beat over the top by him so they load the box up more and play more 1 on 1 in coverage and they are able to stuff the run better. Everytime Lagway is in at QB the running game works great because the defense is forced to play their safeties and LBs back a little bit so they don’t get beat with the deep pass! It’s very obvious that Lagways deep ball threat helps our run game out a bunch against opposing defenses, Jackson comes in at RB everytime Lagway comes in at QB and Jackson has arguably been our best RB with the limited reps he has gotten.
Mertz has the highest completion percentage in the SEC and 2nd highest in the nation. There is a place for that consistency. They have the same amount of yards. The 2 QB systems makes preparation more difficult for the opponent. The bigger issue is the players staying mentally strong and maintaining their edge in spite of a lead or penalties. Those are the 2 things that change momentum for this team.
@@Mike-fm6oc Same amount of yards and Mertz has 23 more completions. Yes, there’s still probably a place for use of both, but Lagway needs more snaps.
It was good to see our defense play with intensity. Having said that, UFC is a horrible team. I get we only had a few possessions in the second half but Napier did nothing with the opportunities. We're playing a real team this weekend and we'll know more after the game. Hoping 🙏
I think Napier was letting Guz beat himself. What was Guz thinking? He literally didn't have the time to score three times at that pace. Guz undercoached Napier. Smh

Lagway is by far the better QB for this offense, our run game is much more effective when Lagway is in at QB and Lagway will actually throw the moderate to deep passes that keeps a defense honest and doesn’t allow them to stack the box every single play like they do when Mertz is in at QB
