Couldn't agree more, I love the re-recording of Artist in the Ambulance, I think it's artistically 'better' but the original just hits in a way I can't explain, pure nostalgia for my high school days, carpooling with my best friend and her older brothers every day after school and being 'subjected' to Thrice 😂. They really grew on me, probably listened to Illusion of Safety and Artist in the Ambulance a thousand times, still my favorite band 20 years later.
First Thrice signed with Epitaph and now an interview in loudwire. Finally getting more credit that they were receiving. These guys are awesome and criminally underrated.
sadly, they are getting more attention because their message is now aligned with the mainstream bleach and nihilism... i'm their huge fan for about 13/14 years now, music is still great, lyrics are meh on this last record, and dustin twitter account is just sad... seriously, if i wouldn't know it's Dustin's account, i would think that his account was bought by some ngo group and now it is used for their marketing purposes...
"You can't recreate some of those things that are attached to [the song]... you don't know what a person was going through when they heard it..." I'm paraphrasing that but I really respect that and how true it is.
After hearing about them for years, I didn't finally check them out until I found out they'd be touring w/ Circa Survive and Chon since I'm a huge fan of both. Now Thrice is my favorite of the three
Thrice is one of the few bands who’s sound matured over time for the better. I loved Illusion of Safety and Identity Crisis and that style which culminated in The Artist and the Ambulance. With each subsequent album after that they distanced themselves and incorporated true music writing. Dustin said it best, those tunes were associated with that point in our life...for me I was a young 18 year old kid in Japan. They matured and so did I with each album. They’ll always be my favorite band because of that.
Some of my favorite bands. Thrice being my favorite band n always will be....A7X and AFI! ALL 3 of those bands sound like 3-4 different grps from their own timeline. I've put that to test also....people hear songs n say "that's the same band"?😂💯✔
So true, the beauty about a band like Thrice is they have so many great albums that adhere to what mood you’re in at that moment. That’s why they’ve stood the test of time and will continue to do so.
I appreciate the evolution of the band and it's awesome to see them take everything they learned from their previous albums and polish that gem even further.
just wanted to drop in and say a massive thank you for all the incredible music you've created over the years. Although I don’t play an instrument or sing, I've been a huge fan of each of your albums and I’m always blown away by your creative power and musical evolution. Tracks like "Phoenix Ignition," "A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds," "Image of the Invisible," "Digital Sea" (Alchemy Index), "Broken Lungs," "Circles and In Exile," "Yellow Belly," "The Long Defeat," "My Soul," and "Northern Lights" truly showcase your progression and versatility. And that’s just scraping the surface. Dustin Kensrue’s solo work and acoustics are phenomenal too. Your style of change reminds me of when I’d introduce friends to songs from City and Colour and then reveal that Dallas Green is also the voice behind Alexisonfire. It’s that level of versatility and mastery. Honestly, this is a humble attempt to say thanks for being a part of my spiritual journey. Your music has been a constant companion and source of inspiration.
No speak of where it started? Identity crisis or illusion of safety? Such amazing albums and lyrics! There has been so much progression in this band and I have been a fan of every album and enjoyed the journey through the past 20 years! I’ve also enjoyed Dustin’s solo albums!
the real thrice fans that grew up with the band and their first albums are not feeling anything past Artists in the Ambulance. Its just not Thrice anymore, its just generic soft rock for VH1 and shit. i don't even understand who its supposed to appeal to
phuck google That's a bit ignorant to say, friend. One of the biggest staplemarks of Thrice as a band is 'how' they change with each new album. Are you honestly going to refer to yourself as a real fan and in the same breath deny the musical brillance of The Alchemy Index, Vheissu and Major/Minor?? Thrice weave compelling stories about art, life, philosophy, dreams, faith, love and death through each new album, with every new track opening up another part of your subconscious until the instruments, vocals and sonic atmosphere paint a picture of many colours that leaves a lasting impact on your soul.
@@phuckgoogle4027 don't speak for me. I've been listening to them since the beginning, and will continue to do so until they stop putting out records. The "real fans" never stopped listening, just because they didn't remake IoS or TAITA. The "real fans" travel to support these guys as they continue to put out great music with a great message. The band doesn't owe you anything.
I'd love to hear an artist in the ambulance pt. 2... but, I'm happy with their musical trajectory and have enjoyed what they have produced over the years.
Wow so well said 🙌🏼 very true, ppl long for certain time periods to come back or be done over again, it will never be the same as when it first came out & impacted you. Personally I love how they’ve grown & they’re not so much “trying to be metal” with riffs and shredding. They’re really seeing a much bigger picture in music as an art & a language, love Thrice thank you guys for still being true to yourselves and your passion
I was given The Artist In The Ambulance for my 18th birthday. It was cool, but I never really fell in love with it. At the time, I was still all about Paramore and Avril Lavigne. Years later, I see a Premier Guitar article about To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere. I remembered the band name, so I gave it a listen. I was instantly hooked. Granted, that took more than a decade, but I love this band now.
You can totally see the progress and “growth” in the band. I feel we all evolve in our music preference. I still listen to metalcore etc but love me some Thrice!!!
I'll admit it, I'm still stuck on Artist In The Ambulance as well! "Theres no promise of safety with these secondhand wings ! But I'm willing to find out what impossible means!"
I have known about thrice since they first began, because i am from oc and i remember when the hard core scene era was in full sesh. Thrice, you are fucking masterful musicians with eclectic tastes so over the board. But epic is your style.
I feel this one hard. I listened to all the bands growing up that came up around the same time Thrice did. Chevelle, Staind, Three Days Grace, Godsmack, Seether, etc. But, somehow, through all of that, Thrice fell through the cracks for me. I only really discovered them recently after hearing Seether's cover of Black Honey and its been life-changing. At 32, I thought I was done discovering music that I could connect with in the same way that I connected with things in my angst-ridden teens when a lot of their earlier stuff came out. Their stuff may not technically be as "heavy" now, but my god, they still pack such an emotional punch and never leave me wanting as a listener. I've gone back and listened to their older stuff and I absolutely love the way their sound and their musicianship has matured. I may have missed them initially but they definitely have my attention now.
hmm interesting opinion about his evolution. i think that i always wanted to see a second artist on the ambulance or a vheissu but my spectation always was fullfilled althought those kind of records never came again. i listen to T & C enery and i listen to black honey and they are bot so differently but its enery and the spirit of thrice are there you can feel it. the enery its just there. awesome band my favorite along side coheed and cambria and billy talent.
The way I see it, their sound should have evolved because they grew as people and individuals. You can't be that same angsty teenager forever, ya know? That's what true artists do, they evolve. If all they do is rehash the same sound because it's "What the fans want" then they'll become frustrated and implode. No matter what, the music should reflect the artist as they are, not as they were.
Was there a full interview where this is from or was this legit just a 3 minute talk with them two? Lol I was hoping that there would be more but I can't seem to find it if so
i know ed is really shy, so maybe he doesn't like to do interviews. riley does his own thing on his podcast... i dunno if those factors play a role at all.
Don't need an AITA #2.... there's a need for Arist-styled music though in some form, but not necessarily an entire album. The music put out has been consistently the same type of rock for a while really since after the Alchemy Index. It hasn't varied much if you really compare it.
To my understanding, ATITA was one of their least favorite albums because they had little to no creative control over their material, and had to rush the record out. I could be wildly off my mark on this, but I thought that was the main reason why they went indie when they recorded Vheissu.
Yeah after looking it up they did record Vheissu with a producer, but I believe that I read somewhere in one of their interviews that they had very little creative control over AITA. Again, I could be wrong about that as well.
Yeah, this is true. Vheissu was the catalyst that pushed them into their current sound. Island records also weren't too fond of the artistic route they were going and wanted more "hits" than where they were headed. All in all, Thrice made a good decision.
I respect artists being truthful to themselves but I started listening to their stuff because they were at riot fest and their new stuff is just too boring. It’s disappointing too cause their set was a snooze fest.

Underrated band. Artist In The Ambulance is a sleeper classic.
Their best album. That’s the thrice I love
a trick: you can watch series at InstaFlixxer. I've been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.

Agreed. Such a great band in general.
