Found this old downhill touge race when I was cleaning up my PC. At that time I felt that I didn't drove well enough to be a worthy upload.

Lacked the power boost from eurobeat
Trying not to ram the dude, preventing as much contact as possible. I seen many moments other less skilled players would’ve tried to pass

Yeah he had him a couple of times just that dang evo kept getting ahead of him even though his gtr should have a bit more hp then it. Maybe im going off of nfs logic but gtr should have better accel then the evo idk

That's the only way to keep the boost up on that beast. If you try to grip through the corners, it just dies.

It's even more impressive considering that Evo is a double edged sword. It's damn fast but it's dead in the water if you don't keep your boost up.
Togue was probably the best mode in that game. It was difficult for sure, but togue isn't supposed to be easy.

I think it’s safe to say that I would like to see a Tokyo xtreme racer drift game made by codemasters. It would be a lot like this but touge focus, more Japanese oriented cars and Japan only courses. It could be a huge hit.
I think we'd take ANY Tokyo extreme racer these days. I miss em.

So this is my take from watching and from my perspective when I was playing Grid back then. Why the lancer took/attack the corner as wide "V" instead of the traditional "U" on some tight corners. I think because it gave better corner exit speed, and drifting actually slow the car down. The lancer minimize drifting as possible to gain grip early, then take off early. Considering physics and dynamic of this game more towards to arcade, that means you really can abuse it. And using track limits to chain every corner perfectly.
That's also what I learnt from playing WMMT
even in grip driving, if theres hairpin you want to make v-ish turn too (instead of staying close to the apex, stay the opposite of it before turning in) to increase the straight line you have to accelerate

i was about to say a similar thing, though disclaimer I'm not a drifting expert. ISAD is drifting more traditionally compared to the EVO who was drifting like how modern drifters drift. EVO threw the tail out and immediately angle the car to the exit so that the car is straight into the exit. whereas ISAD kept the car drifting from entry to exit so lost time on acceleration into exit
Yeah it was a bit painful to see ISAD losing heaps of time to excessive drifting while the evo prioritized exit speed.

Speed of these drifts, reminds me of Ridge Racer! Wicked driving though, real thrill to watch, can see how hard both of you are pushing

@@Andreas32300 Would be a dream come true. RR8 on a wheel setup with modern graphics, and that signature RR music, menus, and car designs. I play more sim-oriented games these days but would happily jump back into some nostalgic nitrous-fuelled brake drifts

That's where you see that ISAD is more of a traditional "Grip" type driver...
You can see his grip racing reflexes pop-up during the race.
Interestingly enough, that's when he make for lost ground against his opponent.

Racing games besides some need to capture touge more like TXRD. Touge is super fun and the outcome will partly be the car but more about drivers ability. To me touge is a breath of fresh air. Nice driving 🤙🏾

the wide entry into the tight corners is actually pretty smart from the evo with the handbrake drifting. he gets a massive drive out of them.

yeah because he got better exits to those straights. Also, obviously, with higher speed, and constant gap in time between cars, the gap in length will increase.
@@DonatProdanSimRacing That Evo got serious boost. They drift to keep the boost up so that the moment they gain grip, they can just slingshot outta the corner. If they try to go grip, the boost goes and the Evo dies.
