You rule! Stoked to watch this video after work. I am a Permaculture student on Northern Vancouver Island. I am loving your "lazy gardening" videos as lessons. Thanks for spreading wicked knowledge!
@@AnneofAllTradesHow have you planted the blueberries in your garden? I want to plant them in a clearcut forest. At least I tried some things. Thanks and best regards, Christian
I’m 76. I read Ruth Stout when her book first came out. I live near a Mennonite community. I read about Climate Change and vowed to live without fossil fuels as much as possible. Seeing you doing what you’re doing lets me hope for this crazy world. Never give up. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. ❤. Thanks.
I always tell my students that you should pick mushrooms one at a time always looking at every single one. If you are unsure and it could be mixed with something poisonous you pick them in a seperate bag, identify them and throw them away even if you are sure. After identifying the species 5-10 times and preferably after checking with an expert, you can start picking them for food. As a biologist that knows about 70-100 mushroom species I still don't pick any white Agaricus ones, not worth the risk to mix it with any Amanita ones. There are plenty of other mushrooms to fill my basket!
That was quite a discovery to stumble upon your channel today. It's an encouragement to see that there are people around the world who are trading the monotony of a prescribed life path for the versatility of a life that is often very stressful but much more enriching (even if this is often due to some weird and unplanned or even unwanted life circumstance). We are a constantly growing family. Undoubtedly many things have been achieved industrially to make the adventure of living on our planet much more enjoyable, yet we will not be able to avoid re-applying these "simple" realisations you list in video after video - and hopefully this will eliminate the extreme influence of the most harmful industries on this planet - chemicals and pharmaceuticals (apart from the arms industry through strange political constructs worldwide) in the long run. It is up to us to simply stifle their bad effects with positive successes, regardless of how their supposed successes impress others. This proves where our heart lies - with a united family, no matter where on the planet. Loves and Greatings from another "Jack of all trades" from across the pond ... and lots of fun and success!
The most important person in a girl's life is their dad. Mine worked and played hard his whole life and was always the biggest kid in any group. We would find morels along the sandy banks of the Loup rivers in Nebraska in the spring. Still miss him after 22 years. God bless you and your dad---Keep growing!
I’ve collected so much stinging nettle this year but only made tea, not soup!! Also dandelions and red clovers! My husband thinks I’m crazy but I love free wild edible things!
Just ran across you and watched two videos starting with letting the weeds fix your garden, and they as well as you are just divine! Subscribed and looking forward to watching more. Eat The Weeds!!!
I'm an avid forager. Super fun fact, after you wash your chanterelles, put them in the sun gill side up for about a 1/2 hour and they will actually absorb vitamin D from the sun. Up to 10x their natural amount if I remember right.
You my dear are an absolute joy to watch.💖. So full of knowledge & share it with all who watch👍 I’m in the high desert of nw Nevada & it so refreshing to see your forest 🌳. I was raised with country like that & miss it 😪 Have a super great day 🌻👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Thank you for your inspiration to become a lazy gardner, just finished building 2 large beds using oak logs that we had hear on our property. Filling the beds with a good soil was very labor intensive, all that mixing of compost, peat and soil. Again thanks keep teaching, Love it.
Thanks for a look into the forest. Beautiful. There’s nothing like foraging in the forest and garden for dinner. I’m also happy to hear the good news about your hand 😊
Heck yeah, mushrooms and dad! Smash that thumbs folks! I’ve been trying to get the paw paws here in Ontario. Excellent video as always and info. Anne rocks!
I'm so appreciative that you leave in some of these mistakes because, as you know, it's extremely important for beginners to realize that even someone as knowledgeable as you could potentially identify a mushroom, plant, etc incorrectly. I'm not a mushroom gal but I plan to work that into my knowledge soon :) Also, thank you so much for all for your gardening videos. I love all of your videos but this is my passion & your videos have encouraged me to try different things which has pushed me to learn even more. 👏🏼😁🥰
I'm sorry to be the one person to tell you that you work too hard to use the term "lazy" gardener honestly. I absolutely adore and admire your thoroughness with explaining EVERYTHING! But, please slow down! Some of us ARE truly lazy. Worse than that, we're old, too! I was huffing and puffing by the end of this video! 😂😊❤❤❤
@AnneofAllTrades, thank you. P.S. While watching your "weed are not the enemy "video, I definitely understood when you groaned as you tried to get up. I agree. While living is a blessing, "getting old sucks!" To me, my mind is better now than it's ever been. My body, on the other hand, not so much. 😒 Enjoy your life!
You are not old if you are old then you are if you think you are young then you are young , never give up on your age, cos your ages are numbers , you must think you g then there you are doing gardening the way you wanted to , all the bests wishing for you
I saw a video once of mushroom collectors who said to use baskets & not bags for harvesting wild mushrooms so any spores could fall to the ground to help plant more.
Really enjoying your information packed videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious and you explain permaculture principles so clearly and concisely. Thanks Anne of all Trades.
Hi Anne, thanks for the positive energy. My wife and I love your channel. We noticed you pulling mushrooms out of the ground. If you are eradicating them ok. If you want mushrooms to continue populating the area I’d recommend cutting the base halfway between cap and ground. This will improve the odds of continued mushroom growth.
Thanks for sticking around! From what I understand, that may be true of some mushrooms, but not chanterelles or other ectomycorrhizal species like them. And even if it were, I have a special motivation for bringing their bases home: when I clean the mushrooms, I use them to make a slurry to inoculate my hazelnut patch :)
My dad knew how to pick mushrooms. In the forests near Schlangenbad Bärstadt , Germany. I just never felt comfortable to pick them myself. 😁 Good memories.
Thanks for sharing the wide variety of mushrooms and other edibles (and not so edible). My parents had paw paws growing in a creek bottom in Ohio. My dad liked to take visitors out to see them because it was a fruit few people were familiar with.
Thank you, thank you, validated me find several chanty runs on my prop. Just wish I had seen this earlier... before they went bad in fridge...bwak-bwak-bwak, yes call me chicken, though NOW, thanks to you I know!!!! 😂😂❤❤❤
I absolutely love that our channel was suggested! I have wanted to start learning how to garden but starting seems overwhelming and appreciate that you teach how nature does its job mostly when left alone.
I just found your channel today and watched two videos (weeds ae good and the forest tour) I have to say not only am I impressed with your knowledge and presentation, I am hooked on your videos.. Time to spread the word to some friends. Thank you for what you do,
Living in the UK, I won’t come across most of these specific plants but it is still fascinating! Thank you for sharing this with us Anne! Also on your note of not bothering to eat things that are only edible in small quantities, I went on a foraging day course in Malaysia and there was a tiny fern (maybe a fiddle fern?) that we were told was edible and if you have a little bit it’ll warm you up, but not to eat too many as it’ll give you nosebleeds! The majesty of nature, eh? 😂
Love the channel Anne! FYI, redbuds can be considered an edible. The premature seed pods are much like pea pods. The native Americans ate them and so do I!
I love your videos so much! Thank you for all that you do and all that you share. I am drawn to that Aura frame you talked about, but I’m not seeing your link in the description. I’d love to get you credit/paid rather than searching it otherwise…
I am learning so much after finding your channel ... I will have to go right back to your start & watch old videos... I need to learn more about mushrooms in my country but I'm a little hesitant to forage mushrooms ... maybe it's time to try growing my own with those starter packs you can buy. Nice guns, girl! :) Speaking of mushrooms - I remember seeing you mention on one of your videos that you use mushroom compost (I think?) and spread it around your garden. I'd love to learn more about that. How much compost, do you mix it with your mulch before applying the mulch? Do you prep your mulch in any way? Or just sprinkle it around?
still pickin' up mushroom caps including the roots ? :P nice video , i love the idea of arranging a forest structure in my garden =) glad to see your hand is doing better and seeing you outside again ;)

I for one would tend to say that all mushrooms, and I suppose - all kinds of things are edible.
Well, a few of them maybe just once ...
