    Brilliant blow-by-blow description of the job. Amazing how you were able to show clear and steady shots under the bath. Good job.

    Thanks mate. Im a rough londoner, and to hear a genuine man of the north is music to my ears. London is a cesspool these days. The north is the last bastion of englishman.
    Cheers this video helped

    Thanks for posting, really helped me to fit the same product seeing as McAlpine don't seem to have installation instructions for it on their website!

    Great video...I have a question if you could help me please... I have to replace and old bath waste to an installed bath, what is the best way to clean up the old silicone on the underside of the bath where the drain hole goes and where the overflow goes where access is tight as the bath is already installed?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi. Generally silicone will peal off pretty easily off the underside of a bath. However if it doesn't and your struggling to scrape it off with a knife or scraper you could use some silicone eater👍

    Very helpful thank! How long should I wait for the sealant to dry before testing?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally you can test straight away with a bit of water. I probably would leave having a full bath for a few hours but filling it a bit and then immediately draining will be ok just to see if everything is ok

    Can you apply sealant to both sides of the gasket?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The gasket on the underside of the bath??? To be honest. Applying sealant on the underside of the bath isn't always necessary. If the bath was new with no imperfections etc, the gasket should provide a water tight seal. When using some sealant as an extra precaution, I would just use on the top of the gasket, the side touching the bottom of the bath. You can use on both sides but I find when you tighten it all up the gasket seems to slip a bit with the sealant. However if you have used on both sides it will be fine but be careful not to over tighten 👍

    Can you use the washer and the sealant at the same time?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I personally wouldn't use the washer. You can try but they seem to squidge of of the side ..

    Can you use Plumber's Mate instead of ghastly smelly silicone?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You possibly can but i never use plumber's mate for anything to be honest...

    That's a deep bath trap. In what circumstances would a shallow bath trap be used?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only if a deep one was going to hit the floor below. Often there isn't a lot of room so a shallow one is needed 👍

  • @tomburke198
    @tomburke198 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I done everything you said was on the the last bit the over flow done the silicone went to twist on but there’s no tighter I can go, it won’t come off and there’s a gap I can’t close between bath and overflow? I’ll probably have this sorted before you respond but any tips ?

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Might need to put a photo on. I dont quite understand. Would it push on before you put the silicone on?? If it didn't, its maybe a fault with the product??

    • @tomburke198
      @tomburke198 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@northwestgascertificates yeah was faulty ended up using the old overflow part which just needed abit of a clean up and re applied all that you had said. Just ran a bath , no leaks all sealed nice and tight. Really appreciate this video, gave me the confidence to do myself. Keep up the good work pal

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi you can use to seal around baths. However it is a little harder to use when making it nice and neat around baths. Some other sealants that are specifically for baths/basins are easier to use

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends which part of England you live in. Down south, maybe that would be the cost. I think £75 labour is about fair

      South UK like in London £130 imo is fine, plumbers pricing is roughly £125 per hour but they still can add more for travel and parts... even if the parts are spares or from customer left overs so you could end up £200 even.

    Those cheap ones are are terrible.
    The larger McAllpine overflow with compression fittings are far superior.
    No hybrid silicone ADHESIVE ! needed plus Stixall is primarily an adhesive like CT1. It also goes yellow after time. The job is a botch and a total mess!!

    I've just installed a new bath waste kit, but I have a slight leak. Only slight, but the sealer hasn't been on for too long, and probably hasn't properly set yet. Could the slight leak stop in a day or so?.

    • @northwestgascertificates
      @northwestgascertificates  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The way to find out if the leak is connected with the sealant is to fill the bath with the plug in. If there is still the leak with the plug in, then it is definitely the sealant and i would re do to be honest. You could try and tighten it slightly more first to see if that makes a difference but then re do if it doesn't..
