I was in korea the year a gas main exploded, a bridge collapsed, and a department store collapsed. People would call each other and ask, "Are you still alive?" as a greeting.
Ok first I have heard that in Japan they also have this giant or..umm huge hornets that kill about 100 ppl every year I think,I don't remember and lol that show you guys were talking about reminds me of the America version 1000 ways to die they have like really weird and some funny ways to die ( not that I'm saying death is a funny thing but the way some ppl die are just hilariously dumb ) anyways its on this cable channel called spiketv ^^
Ok, so I went backpacking in Korea with my friend to celebrate graduating high school. Not sure where we were but if I find the map there like a huge red X over the place where this happened. Anyway we checked into this tiny bed and breakfast and decided to dump our gear and go for a walk. But before we left we decided lets leave the window open since it was a bit stuffy. So we get back from the walk, closed the window because it was getting cold, and went downstairs to put boiling water in our ramen. We got back up to the room and were just sitting down enjoying our ramen and all of a sudden I look at my friend and this huge hornet was chilling on her shoulder staring me down. So i freeze and she was looking at me like "Whats up?" and then she looks down and sees satan hornet chillen. So we both jump up screaming and waving our arms like twats, the little old lady who ran the place comes running up probably thinking we were being murdered, shes asking us whats wrong. We didn't know how to say hornet in korean, we didnt think it a important word to learn we didn't even learn the word bug, so we just kept screaming in english "bug, wasp, bug, wasp! luckily for us she got the idea of what we were saying and promptly killed the thing with her slipper making both of us feel like sissy babies. then she was nice and brought us some tea and assured us we were going to be ok, but we did not sleep that night and from that night until we got to Seoul we slept with one eye open.
i so know this is old, just gotta say, those same japanese hornets are an invasive species in the mid atlantic of the US. Have been since like 1994 or something like that. Ive killed them since i was young,i always thought it was bs that they were "japanese" till i got older and learned the facts X_X they is huge, hope you guys stay away from them, just run. Mid land japan has alot of the same weather of Virginia. Those hornets are evil. sorry for the rant.....
At the end when you were talking about that show in Korea reminded me of a show here in America called 100 or 1000 Ways to Die. It's pretty messed up >.
Eat Your Kimchi Is it possible to get some of these videos with Korean subtitles? It would be great to show some of these videos in my classes but I think the students would need subs.
Some people have died eating live octopus "Saeng nakji" (by choking). Before you guys mentioned about taxi drivers….I was thinking about the same thing! It's not just taxi drivers, it's a lot of people in general here because the lights take so long to turn, and so many drivers just drive through anywhere they want through the green lights here. They just don't stop for you!
TheFashiongirl23 ok so your only credibility is personal experience. I wouldn't eat it too often without some sort of sauce because it does pose as a choking hazard (search sannakji death). The proper Korean way to eat raw octopus and other live seafood is with sesame oil/gochujang and often while drinking, so not exactly stupid but drunk. It is called ho-e (회)... sushi and sashimi is japanese and it may be different, I'm not sure.
TheFashiongirl23 haha the stupid ones are those who don't properly dip raw octopus tentacles before eating it. also it tastes so bland without sesame oil or gochujang... do what you want, I won't tell you how to eat your food, but you've been warned.
TheFashiongirl23 haha chill! I'm serious. I don't know why you're getting mad when I'm expressing concern for your health. It's a warning because it can happen and it's better safe than sorry... plus raw octopus really doesn't taste like anything without sesame oil or gochujang so you should try it! What? I'm stupid if I believe I can die from eating pufferfish? People have been poisoned and died from eating pufferfish; it's very dangerous and chefs have to be licensed to serve it.
I live in a neighborhood in Seoul where they issued a Boar Alert, I had those giant hornets entering my classroom, and my wife and daughter got stung by a jellyfish on the south coast during our vacations. I can't believe I made it through. So far so good. I'M SCARED! ;~ )
Jianna Yong Umm.. Nope.. Jellyfish stings are not detrimental like that.. at least the ones in the East sea of Korea and the Yellow sea. You feel burning pain and it swells a lot but it's easily treatable if taken care of immediately.. How do I know? I've been stung by Jellyfish in Korea.. TWICE!
Things in Australia that can kill you- Snakes, Spiders, Kangaroos, Cassowary, Emus, Wombats, Dingoes, Eucalyptus Trees... Things around Australia that can kill you (aka in the water)- Bull Sharks, Great White Sharks, Reef Sharks, Box Jelly Fish (and Irukanji), Blue Bottle Jellies, Cone Snails, Lion Fish, Stone Fish, Blue Ringed Octopus, Sea Snakes... Non-living things that can kill you in Australia- Cyclones, Fires, Floods, Fire Tornadoes... Uh, need I go on? And I live here... Yeah... Fun...
Jason Vega Yes... You know those really powerful legs that they use to hop at up to 44mph? You know those super strong tails that they can stand on for extremely short periods of time? You know how kangaroos often stand on their tails so that they can kick each other when competing for mates/food/whatever? Now, imagine a kangaroo kicking you... It's gonna leave you with a nasty bruise at least! Probably break a few bones too... Or cause major internal bleeding! Also, I didn't mention things that can't kill you, but can be painful. Like the venom of the male platypus or the gympie gympie tree... Welcome to hell!
My Australian friend told me that you're mostly safe in the cities like Sydney, the thing mostly likely to kill you there is how boring the people are :D
Holy shit when i was in China I went back to my village to go to grave so we were gonna set off fireworks so i go to the side and cover my ears so my ears dont die on me and suddenly, there is a huge asian hornet/wasp? surrounding me. I panic but i dont move or do anything so it doesnt sting me. So the thing surrounds me and im internally screaming. It's so big and its wings move so fast that i feel little gusts of wind coming from it. Eventually it leaves but straight after i wanted to have a heart attack.
I thought you were going to sing the song from My Girlfriend is A Gumiho....but then it was You're Beautiful hahaha Moral of the story: a great drama must have a wild hog.
I was at the beach during summer vacation a few years back, and I got stung by a jellyfish. It felt like someone was dragging a plastic knife across the back of my ankle. It hurt for a couple days, but thankfully it wasn't too bad. I still have the scar, though, and whenever I get the chance, I proudly tell people that I have been stung by a jellyfish :D
Clearly you neglected about death by swoon after a random encounter with Taeyeon of SNSD [or insert preferred pop idol] or perhaps death by cute overload if you see Spudgy getting a walk?
Hey Simon and Martina, you guys should cover the topic of Suicide in South Korea(unless of course you already have XP) with things like social pressure from both teachers and parents, and bullying rampant in first world countries I feel like it would be a nice topic. I also know Korea has a rather high suicide rate like Japan but I'd love to know how things are different between the two.
I immediately thought of You're Beautiful once you said boars, haha. And the giant hornets once became an hour long discussion at our dinner table on how many horrifying things they can do. XD People in the countryside, I salute you.
I really had no interest in Korean life but after discovering you on a Japanese travel Channel I now LOVE watching you two talk about ANYTHING!!! You two are a wonderful couple!!! Thanks !
We have a show like that here in America that you guys were talking about.....its called 1000 Ways To Die....and it basically shows how people have died in the strangest ways possible and they show the scenario of how and what went wrong.
OMG I LOVE THAT SHOW LOL Sorry I just got really excited since its been so long since I've watched that show. Yeah they do show sometimes the most weirdest ways to die. I think there was one time this guy died from laughing the whole day....I think that would be a good way to die LOL like I mean you'll die happy at least XD
Dude, that show is weird man. I mean, this one time they showed a lady on an airplane right? And then her fake boobs just get bigger and bigger until it EXPLODED and there were blood and tits flesh everywhere.....God...I mean there are just some things you can never unsee..... D;
Yay shout out to Australia!! So many things to kill me here lol nah it's not that bad... mostly haha. And I LOVED You're beautiful!! The first Korean drama I ever watched. Also just randomly, Martina I'm loving the more subtle eye look in this video :) I mean I'm totally jealous of your rockin winged eye liner skills but I also really like this look on you too :)
What is it like to have children or babies in Korea? Any implications or benefits? Will you raise you children in Korea? Is there a special ceremony when a baby is born ? Not that I want to have kids or raise them I'm still young lol just curious :D please and thank you
My aunt got in a major accident 2 years ago...she underwent heavy surgery and nearly died then...she was in the hospital for an entire year and is still having treatment...ever since then, I never ride taxis anymore. Those taxi drivers are insane!!
When I lived in the Yukon, we had to take mandatory bear safety classes in grades 1 and 2. Because there was a grumpy old female grizzly that came to town EVERY YEAR. Still went camping outside, in the summer though.
OMG when you started singing Promise I got so excited!! I watched You Are Beautiful and am currently watching Fabulous Boys which is the Taiwanese version and I freaking LOVE THEM :''''''D don't mind me I'm just rewatching all TL;DR videos
Similar show in America called 1,000 Ways to Die! (based on actual cases-one had a couple of goof balls playing with cocoa powder in a storage space and suffocated because of the powder)
You Are Beautiful was SUCH a good drama. Except for the fact that the main character treated the guy who was worshipping the ground she walked on like shit, so she could be with a guy that treated her like shit. That always kills me.
That person made the US seem a lot worse than it is, lol. All of those things are in the US, but like Canada, the US is vast and huge. So a lot of those things are regional. Like tornados are mostly in the Midwest/South and hurricanes are mostly a Southeastern problem, and rattlesnakes mostly live in the desert, and brown recluse spiders are mostly a Northern problem. And even then, it's like living anywhere. Like, just because there are lions in Africa doesn't mean people who live in Africa constantly get attacked by lions. So, the average person living in a US city will never even meet a rattler or a brown recluse spider, let alone be killed by one. And hurricanes and tornadoes happen every year, but the incredibly devastating ones are much more rare. I live in the South, and I can remember going to school during hurricanes, because they're essentially really big thunder storms. When it got bad, we got sent home, of course, but yeah... they're not always these huge forces of destruction that level entire towns. That's actually why Katrina, for instance, was so devastating. People in hurricane-prone areas don't take them seriously every time, especially smaller ones, like category 2s. So, a lot of people didn't evacuate when they were warned, because they didn't believe it would be bad. So... we don't exactly live in a death pit, lol. We live in a big land mass that has places with their own deadly things. (That's not even mentioning the West Coast's mudslides and earthquakes, Hawaii's tsunamis, and what not.) It's relatively safe, though. Most of us can go our entire lives without facing deadly enviromental things.
Hence the same as what was stated in the video - most of the things they mentioned are mainly located in the countryside, while some are in the cities. It's just common sense to know beforehand that these things that could potentially kill you have their preferred areas, LOL.
Savana S Yep, that's what I was saying. It sounds a lot worse when you say it all together, lol. Like the US is a big death trap. (I know that S&M were joking, btw.)
In my state there's this family of universities and highschool that have so many animals in the campus that some visit so often they become their mascots depending on the campus. They go from peacocks, ducks to bucks and bears, the thing is they don't give a single shit about people, they literally walk around and just frequent the cafeterias.
Hey I just got done watching like 15 videos about Asian hornets, just came back to say thanks to EYK for making me scared to ever go outside again, oh my god one is going to fly across the ocean
Hellow guys~ So first, I love your videos~ They're really fun to watch~ And moreover, it helps me to improve my English skill. ^^ And second : I wanted to know whether we could watch this show you were talking about on the Internet with English subs.
I'm Australian and I live in the middle of the bush.... So...... Every morning at 4am you can go outside and be like "goodday mate" to the Kangaroos moving down the road
Hello EYK! I always look forward to your TL;DRs each week and I think you two do a great job with being informative and entertaining at the same time! c: One thing I've been really curious about is the new "Meok-Bang" online trend, or the "binge eating" online shows in Korea. It'd be interesting to get your take on this! Thank you for your hard work, EYK team! :D
For someone reason when I clicked this I felt like it was going to be a video on how to plan a Korean funeral.
I was in korea the year a gas main exploded, a bridge collapsed, and a department store collapsed. People would call each other and ask, "Are you still alive?" as a greeting.
im dying xdddd
We have rain in the UK. Sometimes it's so bad that we have to take an umbrella out with us.
Sounds scary
janet klops We live in terror
l337z0r Hey hey, we had that 'tornado' in Birmingham a few years ago... knocked some roof tiles off
+l337z0r We get flash floods all the time in the American South, and also hurricanes coming in from the coast...
+l337z0r YES BUT THEN THE UMBRELLAS MAKE NO DIFFERENCE BECUASE THEY ALWAYS BLOODY BREAK. Especially if it's rain AND wind.
Captions now available in English, if you need them :D
thanks for the subtitles. :)
Thankss :D

oh i heard of the choking on octopus tentacles, that's why it's important to use sesame oil or gochujang especially if it's a big piece
TheFashiongirl23 please educate me

I thought you were going to sing the song from My Girlfriend is A Gumiho....but then it was You're Beautiful hahaha Moral of the story: a great drama must have a wild hog.
I also thought of that drama when they talked about wild hogs!

Clearly you neglected about death by swoon after a random encounter with Taeyeon of SNSD [or insert preferred pop idol] or perhaps death by cute overload if you see Spudgy getting a walk?

i literally almost peed my pants when simon said "farticles" . i love you guys !

They have a show like that in America. It's called A 1000 ways to die
lol that show is so stupid
omg Simon and Final Fantasy? BEST THING EVER
As an Australian, all I can say is that shark attacks are soooooo rare. It's not nearly as risky as it seems.
I'm pretty disappointed that you didn't mention the most deadly creature in Korea: the fan.
I really had no interest in Korean life but after discovering you on a Japanese travel Channel I now LOVE watching you two talk about ANYTHING!!! You two are a wonderful couple!!! Thanks !
Lovely! Thank you so much!
OMG THAT IS IN AUSTRALIA TOO

When you started talking about the city, I was just waiting for you to say 'Death by Saesang fans!'
A-N-JELL!!! You Are Beautiful!!!!! I love that show and when Tae Kyung is always saying..."Go Mi Nam..." :3

I think this is the best video you guys have ever made! Well, it might have to do with the awesome singing XD
Final Fantasy is better than LOTR I AGREE SO MUCH
When I lived in the Yukon, we had to take mandatory bear safety classes in grades 1 and 2.

Omg this video was took funny! Loved it! ^^
btw Martina's eyes look beautiful!
You Are Beautiful was SUCH a good drama.
Except for the fact that the main character treated the guy who was worshipping the ground she walked on like shit, so she could be with a guy that treated her like shit. That always kills me.
So glad you're back :DDDDD
Australia's actually pretty safe, we have low gun violence, and health care
i'm from australia and can i just add that martina, your accent was spot on. ;D
3:38-3:48 'seubadamdabadabaduuum ma bitches' lol
LOL Martina mocking Simon on FF is so spot on!!! I almost unsubbed from Simon saying FF was better than LOTR.
well this is a weird title
That is my favorite scene in You are Beautiful! I LOLED so much. The old man saying "hi" was hilarious.
I think the hornet was in a 1000 ways to die
3:43 Martina: I Will Promise You... Simon: My Bitches... Hahaha Laughed SoMuch!
This was great! xD hahaha and btw martina looks so pretty! ^-^
I saw a wild boar in a Japanese city (not a big one) at night. On the university campus.
In my state there's this family of universities and highschool that have so many animals in the campus that some visit so often they become their mascots depending on the campus. They go from peacocks, ducks to bucks and bears, the thing is they don't give a single shit about people, they literally walk around and just frequent the cafeterias.
Sketchbook omg thats my university! Its on top of a hill so at night if you go out you can go to the gardens and chill with the deer haha
I would love if you could speak on the crazy Frozen craze. Have you seen the move? Do you like it? Do you want to do a "Let it Go" cover too?

Hellow guys~ So first, I love your videos~ They're really fun to watch~ And moreover, it helps me to improve my English skill. ^^ And second : I wanted to know whether we could watch this show you were talking about on the Internet with English subs.
That show sounds like "1000 Ways To Die."

Hello EYK! I always look forward to your TL;DRs each week and I think you two do a great job with being informative and entertaining at the same time! c:
One thing I've been really curious about is the new "Meok-Bang" online trend, or the "binge eating" online shows in Korea. It'd be interesting to get your take on this! Thank you for your hard work, EYK team! :D
