    It's so crazy watching some of your recent videos and hearing these songs you're working on for Just 4 Tonight. Played with them in San Antonio recently and remember a lot of these songs and just think it's really cool they're working with you to have them produced! Small world! Sounding great Bobby!

    I use a lot of side chain dinamic EQ, because sometimes if you put something down, it sounds weaker. but if you only put the competing frequencies down, you will not loose that much. It depends on the situation, but for me, dynamic EQ is fundamental.

    Dr Bob... great example with real world applications. I hear the lead vocals plenty loud and fits the style of music. I would have not thought to decrease other tracks so vocals 'appear' to be louder, yet the end result is what the band asked for. The band probably is not aware of what you even did. Sometimes little tricks like that make giant improvements to overall song. I don't think I am alone saying that every video you produce is 'new' to most of us.
    I would love to see a couple of videos going into actual mixing boards (old school) and new digital mixers controlled with mouse clicks. Being able to see the 2 types side by side might answer some questions people want to ask, but don't want to look stupid asking them.

      Thanks Steven I appreciate the compliments. I rarely work with consoles anymore. Almost every session I do downtown there is a $400,000 Neve or SSL that’s doing nothing more than being a stand for a laptop! Ha. Times have changed.

      @@BobbyHuff Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Yeah, 1/2 million dollar table to hold PC based solutions. One thing I have noticed is the attempt to make the knobs, switches, even VU Meters look life like in software applications. The ability to see all tracks on same screen at same time is very powerful .
      I'm old school, everything was analog and we lived by the VU Meter. Stacking, changing EQ, and all that took lots of time, but also years of experience. It was hard to walk in off the street and landing a job with a record label working on post production.

    The so-called professionals are the ones who have been hyper-compressing/overlimiting music for a couple decades now right?
    They're lucky they have all that fancy analog gear otherwise their mixes/masters would sound even worse! Hehehe, nice video!

    Thank you for this. If you don't mind me asking... When lowering the claps, why not do it as a group (i'm wondering if it was merely a matter of preference, of there was a more granular concern which I don't yet understand)?

    • @BobbyHuff

    SO , not that I know anything, you're allowed quite a bit of artistic freedom when mixing, At least in this song, or in most projects.?

    • @BobbyHuff
      @BobbyHuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but I usually talk quite a bit with the artist to find out what they are wanting it to sound like and we also play a lot of other music so I can get a sense of what their sonic taste is. My end goal is to make them happy and I always appreciate them letting me experiment and be a part of their art!

    How do you use things, such as compression, on the master bus when mastering engineers always ask for nothing on that bus? Unless you're mastering it yourself, of course!

    • @StevieBoyesmusic
      @StevieBoyesmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They don't mind as long as you haven't screwed the sound up or put loads of limiting on. Some might ask for two versions with and without so the can use uncompressed but hear what you were trying to get apparently.

    • @BobbyHuff
      @BobbyHuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey thanks for the question. That is a myth…The greatest mastering engineers in the world have never once told me to take plugins off of my master bus. They just say to deliver them files that aren’t heavily limited. Otherwise, make sure your Wav file has spikes on it and doesn’t look like a solid blob of audio.
