Pythag is a GREAT item for Ares. It gives him more lifesteal than Bancrofts and almost equal power for several hundred gold less. If you get it first item, you get an ungodly power spike right at around level 5-6 where Ares is strongest.
@@RenReclaimed it's still only 70 power as an early item. The lifesteal is only more in high health scenarios and the cdr is nice, but bancrofts is a better power spike especially given the passive.

Ares passive is bad when you look at him as a jungler but as a support 30 free power for building like your supposed to as a support = busted when he can chain and flame any squishy for 100% their hp because he has 120 or so power purely from aura items
Yes but now think about a jungler that can build 2 full protection items and still get 30 power out of them... Doesnt sound so bad to me. I just tried it and out played a thanatos that builded full damage...

Mast, as ares jungle it’s really hard to gank early game solo lane. Warriors blessing is insanely resilient to tick damage. It’s not from the tier 1 blackthorn. Also, I believe pythags is 120 power on ares for like 2300 gold. Very strong early game maybe 3rd item if you rush spear

Ares support is amazing just because of his passive. A lot of my friends get confused at me buying pythags but forget that supports job is also to buff his teammates and debuff their enemies. My build has 6 passive stacks and is extremely tanky at 4k hp and a ton of protections. Being able to stay alive for a long period of time, be just as tanky as any other support, and STILL be able to be a threat to squishies and anyone at low hp is extremely valuable. Went 15k, 1 death, and 18 assists as support ares and won even with both my solo and mid feeding.
Read the passive on "Warrior's Blessing" and you will see why you weren't damaging Serqet in those early ganks. Warrior's Blessing is a great item to have against tic damage, and back in the day, when Mark of the Vanguard was a thing, I used to get Mark of the Vanguard in mid if I was up against Anubis. Cut the ult damage by ~33%. I wish the old starter items would come back; they added so much variety to the early game.
I main Ares, as a jungle, yes, his Passive is trash, as a bruiser support, god like (no pun intended) building. I start with Tank boots then directly into gauntlet of Thebes, evolved give aura so great protections and +30 power for free, then Sovereignty and Heartward, throws protections to your ADC on top of your 2 then give you 60 power, then Runic Shield and Jade Emperors Crown, kills some of their power making you more tanky and makes it harder to kill your allies. finally if you have the gold switch boots for speed potion and pestilence or go full hate with Mythic Mail, resulting in ridiculous damage and insane protections and protection throwing
Auras are amazing on ares it just gives free damage for being tanky. Even when jungling its hard to deal with a tanky jungler that still hurts. Also pythags piece gives 100 power on ares. Ares passive is awesome.
The reason Serqet was so tanky early is that Warrior's Blessing is such a potent counter to Ares in the earlygame! everything being ticks means that warrior's negates soooo much dmg :o
The reason you did so little damage to Serqet at the start is because of Warrior's Blessing. Your damage at that point wasn't high anyways plus the Blessing gives health, protections (it was evolved already) and reduced every tick of Ares's chain + flames by 3, it might not seem much but it adds up to a point where you deal almost half the damage. Edit:Also, yeah, more health from Shillelagh.
Hey Mast, at 26:12, why go for Obsidian over Spear of Deso? Obsidian's % pen coupled with Magus is a bit nerfed, is it not? (or has the internal math on that changed?) I figure Deso's flat pen works better both with your Magus and the fact that Ares doesn't scale super well, plus the CDR and passive is always welcome. Was it an econ decision? Or am I missing something else?
I tried looking at the patch notes and I didn’t see any indication that he even had that. But I think Ares himself should only get a 50% increase to aruas because 100% would just be over the top.
Is it normal as jg to take others people creeps, I've never really done that myself but I see it so often in your vid's I wonder if that's ok for me to do as well
I'm not sure why you said the scaling on ares' shackle is bad. It's 525 base dmg with 75% magical power scaling PER shackle. That's 225% if you hit all 3 chains with a 1 second gap between each shot.
pyth start is better than rushing magus i think you get for not that much gold: shit ton of health 100 dmg cooldown something around 25 % ls (or 24 sth like that) in general it's really good for that price tag
I've been playing a lot of ares jungle i personally value the cdr so prefer blue boots my generic build has been pythags, magus, ethereal staff, iso, witch blade and boots. having like 3k health in jungle is hilarious.

Yep. As an Ares main Void stone is the only aura item i ever build for Damage Ares, but when I'm support I have at least 4 aura items normally.

It's a fine passive, but Ares' scaling isn't too great, so he doesn't get much use out of the magical power.
