- Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters. This acclaimed series stars Ronald Howard as the world-famous sleuth and H. Marion Crawford in a different portrayal of Dr. Watson than usual.
THE CASE OF THE SPLIT TICKET: Brian O'Casey is desperate. He holds 1/3 of a winning lottery ticket and if he can't find one of the other holders before the end of the day, he'll never be able to get back to Ireland.
I am enjoying these two playing Holmes and Watson. They have a sense of humour
I enjoy watching these old Sherlock episodes.

Catherine.... I love them too. Sally from Nashville Tennessee !
I love them, Jim from Edinburgh Scotland 👍
People, come on lighten up, it's good entertainment for the 50's. Thank you for posting.
Timeless, but too short of a series! So much happens in less than 30 mins.!
Agreed. Like nothing personal, but most of the programs of the generation between at least 2001 and up till now have been nothing but dull and boring. At least most of the programs of like at least the 60's 70's and the 80's the generation I was born in and the 90's were much better
Do you mean over 50,s........
This show was like a small theater company. The same group of actors appeared as different characters.
Yes, it’s enjoyable to these actors repeat in the series in diverse parts. They had an opportunity to really practice their art.
i love the ensemble cast - the same actors keep turning up. . . :}
I remember joking with my brother that if this series had ever done Moriarty, they probably would have cast Eugene Deckers. (Because he was on SO many episodes, and almost always played the villain)
And then our late-night laughs turned to eerie silence as we both considered, what if he WAS playing Moriarty all along?! I mean, we never see him get killed. And, every appearance has him in some other get-up or with different facial hair. Perhaps they're just disguises to fool the police & maybe even Dr. Watson. But maybe Holmes knows...
Perhaps there's a deeper game of cat and mouse being played here between the brilliant detective and his arch rival, who keeps setting-up small brain food whilst covering up his real, gigantic, sinister plot!
Or maybe it's just an over reaching fan theory.
But still, he was in The Redheaded League... And Moriarty was connected to that in the books! Who knows. :P
Dyland Pictures yup- of course, perfect casting. :}. keep safe. 🌷✨🌿🌸🌱🌼🌷
@@TheDylandProductionsSo what exactly are you trying to say? 🤔
The first Sherlock Holmes I’ve ever seen where nobody dies!
You should watch the Red Headed League then.
there have been quite a few deaths...they're just not gorey or sensational
I love Sherlock Holmes! Great entertainment during this 2020 crap!
And this 2022 Bidenflation.
Let's Go Brandon!
And during the 2024 Election battle !
@@sallyrutledge4726 Exactly! Lol
How many vax did you take?
I love the irish music throughout the episode
Very enjoyable . Great duo .
Another great episode.
This is a great episode!
Absolutely great - they are both fabulous actors
This is such a funny series. I love it!
Great fun. I like that Holes and Watson. They are good team.
"Holes"?
County Killarney! LOL! Killarney is a town in County Kerry. Still good stuff!
6:11 he says ‘ County Killarney ‘ I live near Killarney and it’s a town in Co. Kerry , Ireland 🇮🇪 😂
It is near the village of Malarkey.
And his accent?
@@LordMelbury1953 Not bad; but it's closer to Dublin than Kerry. Not a "County Killarney" accent, so. LOL.
If anything, this episode teaches one to be careful who (Or is that whom?) they go into with to buy a sweepstakes ticket with.
With WHOM 😀
And "with" needn't be used at the end, as it's a preposition.🌚
Really enjoyed watching this
I like the actors too!
Awww...twas the best of series!
my fav. Holmes
I always liked to watch these shows. Marion was a natural along with Basil Rathbone also great in the part.
Arthur Conan Doyle was a very imaginative Chap
Yes, although he never imagined his two most famous characters would end up in a series like this.
@@mikefule indubitably my good fellow!
Outstanding
As an Irishman, this is a beautiful portrayal in so many levels. The English loved the Irish, I wish we only knew it, well on some level they loved us. (and why wouldn't they, lol). As for the story, it was just a magicians trick dramatised. As for seeing his native shore, what poor peasant doesn't want to return to his place of birth after witnessing the real world.
No they didn't..The English or British attacked and tyrannized Ireland as well as Scotland with their manipulative tactics...and destroyed its culture too...I've seen and heard and read so many real stories and so many wonderful tales about Ireland and how it used to be in the golden old times...I also know about the wars and attacks and how some brave Irishmen fought for their freedom and for their country from the power-hungry, cruel British gov..
Not a surprise, this episode was perfectly shown....how the poor Irish are tricked by their schemes...Selfishness, ego, hollow kind of cold heartedness and treachery is the English or British personality, generally speaking...while the Irish and Scottish country people are known as more warm, kinder in comparison, naivety, good heart, .. Not all, mind, other elements like individual characteristics would be considered, but the people of the country as a whole, this is true...
At least, the country of British I know as they've looted and stolen from my own country as well and where it was pure, great, wonderful, divine prospering and laden with good culture, joy, harmony, happiness, clean, pure, and with sacred riches with so much history all stolen, our kings dethroned and beloved royal families tyrannized...and now all such physical wealth stolen, wealth with meaning and symbolism, leaving all people poor and destitute & such conditions build inferiority, where there once was self respect and turn against eachother...
anyhow, it is a tragic reality. I've seen something of the historical places where British used to capture and torture innocent, poor people of my country in the name of tax...and they came as guests, then tried to divide the people against eachother and take over....as 'take over the world' was their general motto.
Sherlock Holmes is the only good part and its an individual's portrayal of a good, kind, warm, innocent and genius smart, detective character.
Everyone loves the Irish except themselves.
Fun, like the con tricks series with 3 experts on TV. who show how it's done. Guessed the plot but the way it's played out is a fun watch. All good actors as usual.
Harry Towb ( Brian O'Casey ) is excellent in this...
I actually really felt for him towards the end.
Has anyone else noticed that the fellow wearing the checkered coat has shown up in every episode?
He must be a local.
Love the tuba in opening music.
Excellent
Fun episode
Sort of like a comic version of the old Peter Lorre - Sidney Greenstreet - Geraldine Fitzgerald movie, "Three Strangers".
Love it.
Awesome video!!!!
If Holmes were bad, he would be an excellent antagonist!
Star in the night
Holmes can be an ass at times.
...and would have given Dr.Moriarty a good run for his money
There has been, in the books, acriminal undercurrent to Holmes ... often suspected by Insp Lestrade. Just as well Poirot never committed a murder too .. !!!!!!! (Yeah, I know ..lol .. 'The Curtain')
👍👍👍&thank you‼️
Really perfect ,,
thanks tons
In the real World, a torn lottery ticket would nullify the winnings. How times have changed. 😁
Not necessarily, an appeal can be made in most venues.
When she obtains the third of the ticket from Holmes to destroy in the fire, it very much looks like she destroyed that very ticket! We don’t see her in the slightest switching out the ticket that Holmes gave her for a dummy ticket to destroy 🤔.
Right, because Holmes gave her the dummy ticket, and pocketed the real one.
21.55 watch her open her purse. 22.01 Holmes switches O'Brian's ticket for a dummy. Holmes hands Belle the fake. She then subs another dummy ticket, tears it and throws it into the fire. Then she slips the ticket Holmes gave her into her purse at 22.15.
@@mysticmeadowshomestead6209BRIAN O'CASEY.
Funny moments giving high expectation to the poor guy for luck within limited time, but cleverly fooled by the smart lady.
It must have been very costly to travel all the way from England to Ireland., certainly no chance of getting a job on a boat going there I suppose or he would have done it.
xactly, I thought that was a bit extreme

I don’t think Sherlock was ever created so stupa to put back the wallet
"County Killarney"? There is no such county in Ireland. Killarney is in County Kerry!
It's easy to do research today vs back then. Artistic license was taken often.
Who cares??

Love anything with Sherlock Holmes and Watson, but if this episode had been the first it most certainly would of been the last.
How do I know? Elementary dear viewer.
22:55 had to replay it, nice bit of magic
Jaysus, boy, dis story had me in tears, tinking bout me home in County Killarney, in the little village of Kerry. In tears, I was, from laughin so hard. Dis was one o de funniest episodes yet. Not Conan Doyle, exactly, but Holmes is where de heart is.
I noticed the safe is French which seemed strange. Until I found that these were filmed in France.
I think it was filmed in Belgium ..
Because of those two crooks getting married the other guy is going to get half of the winnings.
Why?
I've now watched all 39 and this was least enjoyable to me - not enough of Holmes and Watson.
I knew this was going to be a good episode when I saw that Raymond Druart was the set designer.🙄
Out of all the Watsons I don't like the way they've made his character. I know it's not his fault…
Much better than Nigel Bruce's, which I find insufferable. Not his fault either, mind you.
jk - I agree. And I think this Watson overplays his part a little.
lol county Killarney....
At 20:40 the clock show an impossible time.
❤
There is no such place, as county Killarney, Killarney, is in county Kerry.🍀.
Right. That's already been addressed.
Supar 😄
At what point would just accept the loss of 13 shillings? Lol
Especially when one considers how much he paid for all that Guinness.🍺
when homes and Watson came home and found the man in there APT. And IF Watson had Pushed me like that , I would of knox the hell out him.

@@Phooie 2 years ago all these episodes werent titled properly.
why did they split the ticket if they were crooks.. doesnt make sense.. crooks would never do that..
they made 8000 each on the first round and much more later.. doesnt make much sense
About as much sense as not knowing how to use capital letters.💋
They couldn't find a real Irishman to play the part evidently. As bad as northeners in the US trying to do Southern accents or Western ones.
Harry Towb was born in County Antrim in 1925.
@@ivorbiggun710 : oops.
o, brother! they took the old Irish Sweepstakes grift and turned into a Sherlock Holmes story? i guess he'll break up a Three Card Monte table in the next episode. the show writers are awful.
What... no gays and lesbians...shocking!!!!🤣🤣
The Watson character in this series hurts the series.

Absolutely awful this Sherlock Holmes! Nothing compares with Basil Rathbone!!!!!
I dont like this Watson much : he gets upset about everything.
"Hailed as the most faithfully filmed adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary characters"? really? these aren't even real Sherlock Holmes stories. none of these are based on any story by Doyle.
TripAffleck I was wondering how the hell did i miss reading all thess stories??
Two of them were based on the stories so far: "The Red Headed League" is from a short story of that name, and "The Pennsylvania Gun" is based (in part) on the novel "The Valley of Fear".
If you read Doyle's short stories, you will find that some of them are based on his work.
@@ekcentrik,the key word is "based" on! For instance Rod Serling's 'Twilight Zone" was based upon short stories, including his own!
A few of them are fairly close to the original stories, but most of them aren't. The characters are almost unrecognisable to anyone who has read and loves the original stories, but they're fun.
IT's Hard for Watson to unerstand the most simplest things. SAD for a doctor.
