@ Interesting! You're the first person I've seen recommend to just jump right into 2. Everyone else seems to be telling me to play 1 first. One thing I didn't consider, that someone else mentioned, was that it may be hard to go back to KCD1 after playing 2 just cause 2 is so much more polished. Not sure how true that is tho. Part of me is tempted to spend 40-50 hours banging out the main quest like you did so that I can enjoy 2 more, but I also don't want to do a disservice to 1 since it sounds like a great game in its own right
Amazed by what exactly? 3 hours just for completely pointless incredibly boring prologue... KCD prologue was brilliant, KCD2 is total slop, infinitely worse than the first game in everything, it even looks oversaturated and cartoonish. Bad dialogues, the story makes no sense, cringe characters, and incredibly boooooooooooooooring. But normie Hive mind and paid shills just love it, unlike the first game.
@ this is either a weird bait comment or you suffer from some sort of mental affliction? If you are serious I highly suggest to take a nice walk outside to get some fresh air and perhaps some exercise it certainly helps rejuvenate the body and mind.
The thing that always stood out to me in the first game was when, in order to read skill books I had to go and find a guy who could teach my character to read. That was just awesome. I’ve never beaten the game, and every time I go back I have to relearn the combat controls, but god it’s great every time I go back to it.
Bethesda is stuck in the Past, where they got away with it, because there were no serious competitors in their genre. But now, since years, a lot of competition showed up, who do the same, but better. And instead of compete with them, they still stay in the past.
It's so sad, but true. Bethesda is basically a different company now than the one we loved. I'm actually curious how many employees there now were present in 2011 or prior.
KCD was a game I stumbled upon late and was so glad that I did. It's probably my favourite game of the past several years. So pumped for KCDII and happy for this studios success.
The thing about KCD and KCD2 for me is how they give you a real sense of being alive in an actual living breathing world. You wake up early, you might decide to start out on a quest, realize that that quest is going to be much longer and complicated than you originally thought, so you move on to another quest. Throughout the day you might complete 2 or 3 or 4 objectives for 2 or the or 4 different quests. Still, none of those quests are complete. You still have to wash up, eat, and go to bed. You wake up the next day and decide "you know what? I'm going to spend all day today gambling, blacksmithing, lockpicking, making potions, or whatever the hell else I feel like doing." and the game lets you do that. The amount of freedom you have to do whatever you want in this game is such a breath of fresh air. KCD2 is definitely going to be in the hat for GOTY.
Woke up at 1am here to play it as soon as it was available. Played till 4am and didn’t want to stop, but had to force myself to go back to bed and get a little sleep before work. It was worth it! 😅
I've been playing the first KCD for the first time and I've been blown away. It makes a Bethesda game seem shallow and really highlights the industries obsession with being flashy over real substance.
Bethesda flashy? Pfft they don't even got that going for them at this point. Star field just proved how mediocre Bethesda is. They have not grown or evolved and that'll be their downfall. They refuse to do anything but give us the same thing we've been getting for 10 years. They only stay afloat due to nostalgia and people praying the next game will be better. If it was any other studio they'd have been shut down by now
I'd love this studio to really run with the idea / theme. Different historical monents in different countries, all with these huge figures involved in revolutionary events, and you're just some wee peasent who's miraculously along for the ride
The crafting systems? Is like Skyrim on crack it’s so good I could sit there and do it all day! They need to add carpretry, making armor, maybe leather work? That all needs to be addded the alchemy and blacksmithing is so fun
WHAT YOU GET OUT OF DOING THE SIDE QUEST IS THE EXPERIENCE OF THAT QUEST! you want a peasant to give you a legendary weapon? Quest dont have to give you anything Just like life!
Warhorse Studios is Peak game development and Story writing, Everything Elderscrolls and Fallout has been lacking in the quanity over quality of Skyrim and Fallout 4. Seem more unfinished then anything if you ask me.
As a long-time Bethesda fan, when I first played KCD, I felt like I was at home with a BGS game. It's a spiritual successor and then some. But Warhorse has an Ace up it's sleeve and that's Dan Vavra. Man is one of the greatest writers in the industry. Mafia 2 and KCD are two of my all-time favourites. And I've no doubt KCD 2 will likely be another masterpiece.
*QUESTION* -- I picked up KCD1 for 3.99 the other day. Should I play it in its entirety before 2, play some to get a handle on the general mechanics, or just watch a story recap like this and go straight to 2? I don't want to miss out on the release hype of 2, but I feel like I won't be able to fully appreciate it without having experienced 1 first. Then on the flip side, with how much these games demand from the player, I don't want to inadvertently never get to KCD2 because 1 took so much of my gamer brain resources lol. Thoughts?
The boys & girls over at Rockville, Maryland & Edmonton, Kanada better take a good intensive look at this to learn how meaningful craftsmanship has to look & play like. Thank you, Warhorse Studios for delivering our well earned Deliverance!
Although I never finished KCD1 I enjoyed my time with it. I just didnt fine the story all that compelling which is why I didnt finish it. But some of the side quests were wonderfully crafted and had some nice story telling. But where this game shines is the agency being given to the player to make decisions that can even soft lock your progression. I love this because in no way does the game hold your hand. That leads to the combat. I was terrible at it at the start and I was almost going to call it quits but then I did the early game tutorial for the combat got to a point where I was proficient and then did pretty much nothing but the tournaments for hours. If a game gave me this combat, maybe increases the speed and power a little but keep that challenge intact while also giving me the player agency and the a non voiced protagonist with full character customization it would be my perfect game. Alas the industry seems to not know what they are doing and would rather trounce out this slop called "live service"... it is deplorable really!
EA...Bethesda...Ubisoft...please... Learn from Dragon Dogma 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance progression, quest system and narratives. Learn from studios who write characters and conversation instead of NPC post to tell you to go to X market on the map. This is what sequel should always be. The same, but more polish, improved mechanics, more story, bigger. This game trust the audiences to have a brain to follow up with characters and narratives. They don't hold yourself like. This game is an adult experiences with plot points
From what I've seen they have taken the immersive sandbox to a new level. This is even aside from the beautifully hand-crafted quest and mission framework. The only thing I can compare it to is the enormous and curated Stalker modpacks. In both you have the possibility to forge your OWN quests and objectives. You play the sandbox how you want to play it and the sandbox adapts around you. I love Cyberpunk2077 but this makes Night City look about as immersive as a stage prop.
The game is a straight 10. The dialog, gameplay, exploration, scenery. Everything. Holy f*ck the industry is f*cked. We could have more games like this. WHAT HAVE WE BEEN MISSING
I hate the in game dialogue scenes where they blur the background. it makes the characters look like a child's cardboard doll cutouts and just dropped in. 15:53 for example. It looks so unnatural. I bet they did this to lessen resources.
@@imrileth6618 Unbelievable that blurring an image uses more processing power than allowing that image to be viewed in full texture resolution! Best reason Ever to make sure it's disabled. Thanks for the reply.
They put bethesda to shame for sure, I played kcd and it was insanely impressive. Playing kcd2 did the same for me, I just want to keep playing it and especially recently with starfield it hasn't done that, I've been playing stalker 2 recently and have got into the old stalker games and at the minute I'm starting to lose faith in bethesda when there's games like stalker and kcd being released that are absolutely putting them to shame.
The first thing I did was try to find Mutt before I even had a weapon and somehow managed to punch the vagabond you run into to death while dodging his sword swings. Then shortly after I got ganged up on by 2 and only managed to live because some random npcs that were walking by ran in and started defending me, this game is so fun.
I downloaded KCD1 a couple of years ago without really knowing what it was and never gave it a shot either. I deleted it after about an hour. Hearing people enjoy KCD2 has me wanting to play it, but I'd want to play the KCD1 first.
Finally another Larian like game success, they show all those big money hungry gaming companies that games with heart and time are the most successful ones. ;-)
I'd also add that this game runs amazingly well. I don't even have great hardware and can run on high settings with 80 fps. It's been so long a game was actually optimized and runs so damn well.

Im so glad I decided to play the 1st one. I finished at 111hrs just 2 hours before KCD2 released yesterday and I'd be a bit lost, overwhelmed, and I'd miss out on so much if I hadn't become so comfy with the mechanics and how the game thinks. The 2nd one doesn't really teach you too well and even playing the 1st already, I felt anxious feeling like I was missing something or being thrown into combat without enough info or prep. So far, the game is a 9.5 out of 10. (Its a 10 but I prefer to leave room for improvement)
This game looks amazing. But how crucial is it for new players to play the first one before starting this? Or can I just jump straight in without losing out on too much of the experience and world building?
For me, the first one was such a happy place. Wandering through nature and stumbling on a small, human story was such a change of pace vs life. Though I will say, sometimes just blowing shit up helps a crappy day. That's why Helldivers exists
Game is fucking good man. It actually feels more like an RPG than the first one. Played for 10 hours yesterday and only did side missions lmao. There is so many options on this game
I'm not trying to be annoying; I genuinely want to understand. You often emphasize how writing should be 'grounded,' yet you also praise Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which, to me, has some of the worst writing I've ever seen, and it's anything BUT 'grounded'. The characters often speak like internet memes, there's little subtlety or nuance, and dialogue sometimes feels like it's aiming for shock value rather than following the logic of the conversation. Having completed the game myself, I'm curious-what am I missing here?

I don’t know how you could still be a Bethesda fan Mr Matty plays salutations
The thing that always stood out to me in the first game was when, in order to read skill books I had to go and find a guy who could teach my character to read. That was just awesome. I’ve never beaten the game, and every time I go back I have to relearn the combat controls, but god it’s great every time I go back to it.
How many dudes can Henry bang?
Let Bethesda go Matty, pleasez
Bethesda is stuck in the Past, where they got away with it, because there were no serious competitors in their genre.
But now, since years, a lot of competition showed up, who do the same, but better.
And instead of compete with them, they still stay in the past.
Huh?
It's so sad, but true. Bethesda is basically a different company now than the one we loved. I'm actually curious how many employees there now were present in 2011 or prior.
Agree, they're pathetic these days.
No they haven't fucked up enough actually
KCD was a game I stumbled upon late and was so glad that I did. It's probably my favourite game of the past several years. So pumped for KCDII and happy for this studios success.
Cant wait to play this tonight when I get off work. I was playing KCD1 yesterday. Cant wait to see the updates they've made in this one.
Cant wait for avowed.
@@dianuevo8925 I can.
The immersion in this game is beautifully done, incredibly organic and realistic without being so hard it frustrates you or pushes you away.
Insane that i can play this on Ultra with my old ass RTX 2080 with 80+ FPS!
So
I think that’s normal. You don’t need the newest graphics cards to run a game well
@@needum9212 Most new games I have played lags ASF
studio clearly put more effort into pc optimisation than others do.
I was suprised my 2080 handled it so well as well.
not my kind of game, but I do appreciate its existence, and millions like it, I want more of this despite not my cup of tea
Going back to old school gaming where you actually had to think and everything wasn't a marker on a map. Putting the industry in check
If it was any other studio they'd have been shut down by now
Not giving KCD2 priority as an RPG channel is a crime!
I'd love this studio to really run with the idea / theme. Different historical monents in different countries, all with these huge figures involved in revolutionary events, and you're just some wee peasent who's miraculously along for the ride
Excellent review Matty
The crafting systems? Is like Skyrim on crack it’s so good I could sit there and do it all day! They need to add carpretry, making armor, maybe leather work? That all needs to be addded the alchemy and blacksmithing is so fun
I kinda like that there's no magic or fantasy elements.
WHAT YOU GET OUT OF DOING THE SIDE QUEST IS THE EXPERIENCE OF THAT QUEST! you want a peasant to give you a legendary weapon? Quest dont have to give you anything Just like life!
Warhorse Studios is Peak game development and Story writing,
Everything Elderscrolls and Fallout has been lacking in the quanity over quality of Skyrim and Fallout 4. Seem more unfinished then anything if you ask me.
I am glad to hear about this. Makes me really happy. I will be picking this up next week. Can’t wait (:
The moment Matty said "KCD2" I knew this was going to be a difficult watch. I persevered and made it to the end. Good insight
Man....I rewinded and watched that Avowed snippet so many times 😅 looks awesome
Just curious….Which dude did you romance in this game?
the devs understood the assignment
I wish Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 could use the "Blade & Sorcery" engine so this could be a full medieval VR game. Would be absolutely incredible.
The cut scenes on this game are some if the best and most believable ive ever seen. The writing is amazing.
That tense meeting with the Captain patrol in the very beginning, I felt it in my scrotum.
Can’t wait CANT WAIT!!!! It’s just sitting on my pc waiting for me to work one more day then I get to get lost.
Where is Luke Dale? He deserves to hear all of this praise after all of his hard work
As a long-time Bethesda fan, when I first played KCD, I felt like I was at home with a BGS game.
I didnt know he was writer for mafia. Damn. Mafia 2 was amazing even with the publisher screwing it over by gimping the open world content severely.
Hans just left in a huff and I genuinely feel lost in an unknown land.
I wanted to love KD and have started it multiple times without getting far before I quit playing.
Lmao how
EA...Bethesda...Ubisoft...please...
I am blown away by this game. I have only played 3 hours and cannot believe how amazing the whole experience has been.
Im trying to knock out a lot of games right now before KCD2 because I known it's going to absorb my free time. Can't wait.
Good thinking bro it's definitely a time suck, but it's pretty good
this game feels like early 2000s bethesda but bigger
The game is a straight 10. The dialog, gameplay, exploration, scenery. Everything. Holy f*ck the industry is f*cked. We could have more games like this. WHAT HAVE WE BEEN MISSING
As soon as TH-camrs I respected (inc this channel naturally) started making Skyrim comparisons, I knew I had to order this.
But it's nothing like Skyrim...
I am very happy with the performance of the game itself. No lag spikes no major glitches no crashes yet. That's pereft launch.
I hate the in game dialogue scenes where they blur the background. it makes the characters look like a child's cardboard doll cutouts and just dropped in. 15:53 for example. It looks so unnatural. I bet they did this to lessen resources.
Looks like standard dept of field. Can probably be disabled in settings. Dof itself requires processing power so it doesnt save any resources.
@@imrileth6618 Unbelievable that blurring an image uses more processing power than allowing that image to be viewed in full texture resolution! Best reason Ever to make sure it's disabled. Thanks for the reply.
You can turn this setting off.
I'm on my way to get it right now. I haven't been this excited since ghost of tsushima
I want to play this game. Should I play the first one first or start with 2?
'Mabey 2 3 hours to game' is wild
The first thing I did was try to find Mutt before I even had a weapon and somehow managed to punch the vagabond you run into to death while dodging his sword swings. Then shortly after I got ganged up on by 2 and only managed to live because some random npcs that were walking by ran in and started defending me, this game is so fun.
I downloaded KCD1 a couple of years ago without really knowing what it was and never gave it a shot either. I deleted it after about an hour. Hearing people enjoy KCD2 has me wanting to play it, but I'd want to play the KCD1 first.
I had a similar experience with kcd1 but I can say that this one seems to be much more forgiving and I'm loving it so far.
@@alexx123ifyI agree, I didint play kcd1 because it was too janky and annoying but 10hours in and I'm loving kcd2
I hope those glasses get memed into eternity they are absolutely ridiculous looking and I love it
Finally another Larian like game success, they show all those big money hungry gaming companies that games with heart and time are the most successful ones. ;-)
Larian and Warhorse are my biggest go tos right now for actual good games.
Am I the only one enjoying all the side quests. I love making potions and blacksmithing....it's fun
Been playing for 12 hours straight doing side quest only and im having the time of my life. I lovveeee this masterpiece
How many review cycles is this game getting? Or is it just one big long period?
The first is great, but if people are honest it wasn't on trend or lucrative to cover.
He said” they make Henry awful in bed. That’s amazing.”😂😭😂
I havee yett to finishh Stalkerr 2, ahhh, two masterpieces at once, it's too muchhh!
I'd also add that this game runs amazingly well. I don't even have great hardware and can run on high settings with 80 fps. It's been so long a game was actually optimized and runs so damn well.
Todd is exactly where he wants to be with game creation; in the warm embrace of a corporation with more money than god.
It's easy to expose the gaming industry. Most AAA games in the last 10 years have been crap, made for 15 year olds. It's just a money grab.
My biggest issue is that the Inn keeper in first 2hrs uses the word “clout”
I’ll grab it along with the first one in a couple years, looks really immersive.
as someone who is playing it right now i don't know how you can wait. It's outstanding one of the best games i have ever played so far and i barely scratching the surface.
@@hankrearden5460 i have the first one on ps5 but honestly the 30fps is putting me off from continuing it, i do love the story but it still feels a bit clunky for me. I really wanna get into this new one since it's so beautiful but i know i'm going to miss out so much for not completing the first one.
@@alexk1367if its worth anything the second one is much more smooth, so it will be worth getting to it at the bare minimum.
A couple of yrs? Wtf are you on deployment?
@@alexk1367 The first one is basically a beta test for the 2nd. Story is worth it though. I played the first on PS4 and had more FPS than that so idk what is wrong there lol. Weird.
This game was made for the weirdos who want to role play a homosexual medieval man and this grifter will push anything that gets him views. Remember the oblivion remake he wouldn’t shut up about with zero substantiating evidence?
cope harder groyper
If a game isn’t an acquired taste for some segment of the audience then the game likely went far too broad and missed out on building the depth that creates a loyal fanbase
Even KCD 1 puts bethesda games to shame.
Vote with your wallet guys, don't listen this guy after dragon age and shadows
did he shill for that utter slop ?
If this was anime, Bethesda is in for a looong training arc.
After 1 day of kcd2, I'm left wondering how I tolerated such dated and unimproved mechanics from established titles.
Thank you MATT , 75 percent downloaded and thanks for just giving me a hype video with no spoilers or drama
An amazing game but a weak story like most RPGs. I'm tired of simple stories. The many choices amount to very little if the story is not spectacular.
Great commentary. I love seeing modern games breaking the stale moulds of the 2010s
Its KCD time fuck FF
First maybe? I have it downloading on my pc that I just built!!
What are the specs?
Have fun 👍
Enjoy
@ thanks
I spent 2hrs being killed cause I had low health on the moment the game saved during mission - and I loved every second of it
