I think ten wins is what we hope to see as vol fans. I think aside from the playoff, that is the number we have to see for us to have full faith that Nico can get us a title.....or Heisman. Florida is a must win this year, and we want OU revenge from 14 15. Been a long time since 1939 and I think Tennessee beating OU sounds nice for 2024. Imagine a 10-2 season AND JPJ coming back for a senoir season to make a run?

The Oklahoma game is the biggest game this year…. I’m most worried about that one.
We will likely lose to Georgia - so counting that one out.
But we haven’t been able to consistently beat Florida either.
This season could go 9-3 or 8-4 or possibly peak at 10-2 or 11-1.
    I tend to think 9-3.

People forget we’re still on the up and up, yes we had some good recruiting, but they’re still freshmen and sophomores, and we lost a lot of that good core, I don’t anticipate being a lethal team until 25-26 and 26-27

The obvious answer is Undefeated. Realistic expectations to be “satisfied” would be getting a playoff spot which likely means no more than 2 losses.

The only way I could see us at 9-3 and in the playoffs is this. We drop an early season game to OU, and or NC State, than turn around and beat Bama at home convincingly and an overtime loss to UGA at UGA while blowing every other team out. This would take on the appearance of an improving elite team as the season went on. Plus, TN is a big road traveling money maker for games. Even than we might need some luck with other teams from ocher conferences, or very very few 10-2 teams from the Big 10 and ACC.

As a fan playing in SEC championship and being top 4 is the goal but 9 or 10 wins while maiing the playoffs every year or almost every year would make me happy. Had to many awful years during the coaching carousel. Dont wantbto go back to that.

How we play that game or the effort we givfe, might depend on how much of a risk playing and SECCG might be. Had UGA not played the SECCG last season and took the L during the regular season and given enough time to climb the rankings again, they'd have made the playoffs. But risking a loss in the SECCG against a Bama team not ranked in the top 4 and you could lose your shot and be out of it like UGA was. In 22, we didn't exactly scheme to beat UGA because just win out without playing in a SECCG and your in the playoffs. Sometimes it's better to not play a SECCG when your resume is good enough with only one loss to get in the playoffs. If that worked for a 4 team playoff, certainly gives you more wiggle room for a 12 team playoff. I think we could have beaten UGA in 22, we just were more beneficial not beating UGA and backdooring in, than risking it all in the SECCG with a loss. They dropped us 5 spots out of the top 4 playoff rankings for a 14 point loss at UGA. That's proof enough that it we lost to LSU or Bama, they would have dropped us at least 5 spots, likely 6. I think Heupel schemed the Ball state game plan vs UGA in 22 because he assumed we'd beat SC. What happened to UGA with that loss last year in the SECCG and being left out for it, was what TN was trying to avoid happening to them in 22. Possum game vs UGA in 22 for TN. 52 points on Bama's D whom was ranked higher than UGA's going into that game, but could only muster 13 against UGA? lol ok. I think that doesn't happen unless we scheme it that way.

@@SauceK5 I would agree with you if the common foe factor between TN and UGA would have looked more impressive.. UGA's most points they ever put on Bama was what 37? TN put more on Bama than any offense has in 100 years. 52. . That year UGA is played close again from behind by MIzzou. TN puts up what, 70 on Mizzou? UGA one score winners over UK and TN beats UK by 38? UGA had the 46th rushing offense in 22 and no tmuch better in 23. If it benefited TN more to beat UGA in 22, I think they would have. Just benefited TN more not to and risk an extra game in the SECCG. UGA found out what happens even if you are undefeated, and lose an SECCG with a weak schedule. Your left out of the playoffs. This year will tell us a lot about UGA. Six teams on that schedule could beat them. or is deep enough too. AU, Bama, TN, Clemson, Ole MIss and Texas. Will be fun. I think they win 4 of those and that would be amazing. but all six? hellz naw.. lol

Less deep than they were last year and only had one top 30 offense they had to play against and didn't have Bama on the regular season schedule and still didn't go undefeated. Trailed in 7 first half games.. Now you add Texas, Bama, Ole Miss in the regular season? Still got to get by TN, Clemson, and AU and oh yeah, UGA beat GT by what, 7? lol I've said UGA has had a weak regular season schedule because they have. Ranked 78th, 77th and 71st the last three years. By stats, when UGA plays more than 2 top ten teams in the regular season, they don't win much. They might face 6 or more ranked teams, 3 top tens. lol History says, they will lose at least 2 games regular season..

For me, I'd be happy with winning every game I'm supposed to and being very very competitive and close in the games we lost. We aren't supposed to beat OU at OU and maybe that's reversed by the time the two teams play, but if it's a loss, 3 points or less. Ok, acceptable, Nico's first SEC game and away as QB1. But we can't be losing to a UF at home. Unacceptable. Because only a ranked team has beaten us at home since the 22 season. MSU, UK, UF need to be win. The only 9-3 acceptable outcome is a very close loss to OU and very competitive losses to Bama and UGA. No blowout losses. And any variation of 10-2 or better with any team variation win losses. Ex. Lose to OU but beat Bama at home, and drop the UGA away game and your 10-2 with a top ten win (If Bama was top ten, top 5). Looks like we'll play 4 ranked teams and it will matter how we look in every game we play.

Most Tennessee fans want certain wins and that would be Alabama because they’re a dynasty, then Georgia because they think they’re in the Tides league. But they have years to go before they get given that title. Kentucky because they have taken Vanderbilt’s place. More importantly they play the same style offense as Georgia. And gives us a glacé at how well we do later in the year against the Dogs. Now there’re ones jealous of our progress, like Carolina Jackpot, he has a show on College Football TH-cam, you should check him out. Tennessee has been doing things right in Knoxville for a few years now. We hired the right Athletic Director and everything has begun to turn positive for our brand. If your a college football fan then you will see us play this year. Remember I said this. Teams you would expect to be in shape want be. And we will expose this. Catch one of our home games on television. Like the Alabama game. They have a new crew of coaches. That’s going to get baptized in Knoxville watch the fireworks with us.

The happiest of the saddest paths is 10-2 with losses to Georgia and Florida, and making it to the playoffs. 9 wins is not the end of the world, but it's the beginning of long-term, "middle of the pack". Getting 9 wins and getting into the playoffs could be something, but that aint happening in this inaugural playoff and only 12 teams. So 10 10 and 10.

I don’t think a 10-2 season would get them in unfortunately. You’ve have to look at how many 10 and two teams are possible, likely Ole Miss and Missouri both are ten or better. Both teams that go to the SEC championship most likely are in. If Tennessee got to ten that would be five teams from the SEC looking at a playoff bid. 5 spots are filled off the bat after conference championships.
