Hugh was more of a partner than a rival. He battles you to check his strength or see how strong you are. He's a true bro that comes in out of no where and save your ass from team plasma. He would have been true great rival if he aimed for the pokemon league and compete against you on being the strongest in unova. If final battle in victory road is more like a test to see if your ready to take on the league seeing he isn't interested in battling the champion or the elite 4s
patrick susulin I think the fact that he differs from other rivals by having his own aim to be to take revenge for his sister on plasma and find purloin instead of the traditional challenge the pokemon league and champion makes him a much more interesting character

The number of times a Pokémon with a type disadvantage was sent out makes my mind blown. Also this kinda makes me laugh cause when you had a Pokémon that could easily take out another Pokémon with a super effective stab move but opted to use a mistral hit instead...

While i agree, I still have fun in the new games.
I never really had any problems out of this rival. To be fair though, I would usually be stupidly overpowered. The team I would usually always run and I found this one the most effective for in-game: Samurott, Flygon, Lucario, Chandelure, Braviary, and Eelektross with Growlithe/Arcanine before I got Chandelure.
That isn’t stupidly overpowered for starters the gen 5 starters you are honestly better off ditching in black white 2. Serp is legit worse then every unova grass type ingame due to its horrible movepool. It’s ok in black white two ( not good just ok) cuz it actually has a coverage option aqua tail but still worse then the others. Emboar is discount darmantian. And oshawot has a higher special attack yet better physical movepool and swords dance. Starmie is realistically way better. Exactdrill is your best ground type option due to getting earthquake stupidly early as well as swords dance. Which means two steel types if you use lucario and lucario can’t compete with the mole. ( or conkledure or moxie heracross or the swords of justice of sawk ect) If anything your main competitor would be magnetzone since it’s honestly the single best mon to use in the story matchup wise and also benefits from buffed sturdy. And flygon honestly isn’t as good as haxorous so worries about type overlap isn’t that big on that front and it even allows you to hit eletross super effective due to mold breaker. And elektross well even if you decided to use exactdrill and not use magnetmite line due to both being steel Galvantua is better matchups wise ( more likely to be fully evolved before flying gym so better there even with secondary bug type bug type super effective against two of the elite four stab super effective against hydreigon while being able to outspeed compound eyes thunder ect. And if you ain’t using Galvantua you should be using scolipede or a moxie heracross.
ultimate Recoil idk man. In all of my playthroughs, I felt the team I used flowed really well together and I particularly enjoyed using them. Also what I meant my “stupidity overpowered” is I would grind it out and get my Mons really high level. Like I would be 10-15 levels higher than I really needed to be for an in game play-through.

@@wedgeofcheese9482 technically not competitive because it takes into account access to tms and whatnot. For example simisage is actually op in black and white due to tm access and the coverage it will have for the gyms.Two rock tombs will be able to handle emolga and the first will make simisage outspeed the second then there is dig for zebstrika ( both tms in desert) It will have seed bomb for clay if you delay the evolution to 22. It is at an advantage against the first gym since if you pick tepig you are given a pansage it’s previous form and the ace is a water type. For the flying gym it can actually handle her lead because she decided to give a special attacker a physical set this time with shadow claw in the tower. Brick break can actually let it handle everything but brycen’s ace in black and white since it is likely too bulky. And while it doesn’t have anything spectacular for dragon gym for the elite four you have coverage for every single member brick break for dark shadow claw for ghost and psychic and acrobatics ( pretty much the best attack in the game as far as in game stuff goes) for fighting. It’s stats peak early so it’s ahead of the curve early game ( stone evolution privilege there) yet its massive coverage is enough to carry it the whole game. It literally gets access to exactly all the good tms on offer in game. Other things that are better in game then in competitive are stallers/tanks with no reliable recovery ( potions) and glass cannons especially if your name is archen( less priority in game ) simisage while is op because of the fact that it is always able to contribute due to its enormous movepool and early stat edge caused by evolving via stone its always useful. Taking into account such factors magnemite’s accessibility is a major boon for it. You can kinda just catch one and beat the poison gym with it immediately. Next gym it resist entirely as well. Tbh you can win by spamming sonic boom in the bug gym. Tbh a magnemite paired with a arcanine can work well for else ( have them volt switch into zebstrika then switch into arcanine for a flash fire boost then sweep). Tbh arcanine is probably better long term then chandelure due to better tutor moves. Even if chandelure has better stats.

I was surprised that I was wrong expecting Hugh be like Blue from Gen 1 that your rival will be stopping you in your route to the Pokémon League in order to compare who is stronger. He IS the person wanting to compare whose team is raised stronger. But Hugh has a totally different goal to be stronger than anyone else and especially all Team Plasma. Even though I’m sad about not able to see evolved-Purrloin Liepard in Hugh home with his sister and some happy endings, but Hugh eventually achieved much of his goals to adventure.

Yeah while it’s the best in comp serperior manages to be the worst grass type to use in black and white one and in black and white two it only managed to surpass the really bad things like maractus ( it got a coverage move aqua tail unlike black and white one where it had basically nothing your best set was to make it a staller then ( wrap toxic leech seed and giga drain) woohoo now you could run an actual ok coil set.

I bias for this story, not game pretty much… that Nate, Rosa (new protagonists/BW playable characters), Hugh, and (after 2 years of) Bianca looks like a bunch of teenage students who is just new to outdoor adventures they had long hoped for and just set off. I really did speed run capturing wild Pokémon in order for me to feel the presence of youth and the desire of them to get a full team of Pokémon to participate Pokémon World Tournament, Battle Subway, Black/White Tower Challenges, and of course:
❤️🔥 *BATTLE BETWEEN THE YOUTH* ❤️🔥
And that is why I will appreciate every time of *Tackle* I use against Hugh’s starter. That is the symbolic of every start of my Pokémon adventure.

I loved Black and White 2, but does anyone else feel like the animations were off in battle compared to Black and White? Felt a little clunkier for both the attack animations and the sprites themselves.
