The thing with the blade in the middle is a grader. It's used to smooth out loose road material either as a finishing step or repair to dirt or gravel roads, or as the last step in preparing the subsurface for pavement.
We use them a lot in Australia in rural areas, dirt roads get graded once a year or so to get rid of potholes (that's the idea but to do it properly you need to use a roller as well and yeah... potholes are normally back within a month plus you have about a week of exciting cornering because the whole top layer of the road is now loose)

I think the ground generation "feature" might be related to the non-auto demolish option. Instead of the developers just installing invulnerable hit boxes, they took the hard road with an auto-regenerate feature. In essence, structures you build are demolished and then instantaneously resurrected, but the ground is restored plus the loose debris that should have been generated.
I mean you know that they render each atom of dynamite individually, right? The fact that you only see the outer shell doesn't stop the devs from reaching perfection!

Those graders (machine with the blade underneath) are really common here in Australia, used to maintain dirt roads, smooth out potholes and set the crown for drainage. Generally not used to cut the road in the first place.
You can turn off the vehicle destroying stuff thing, it's exactly the button you thought it was, also the max limit thing might be because of all your dozers and excavators, try selling them maybe?
I think the explosive might have a explosion radius that will stay the same even if you stack more on top of eachother so if you want a big hole you might have to explode them separately. 🙂
When you blow up a high explosive underground it absolutely does leave a larger volume of debris behind. There is a really cool video from Andrew Camarata that just came out called Blasting a Pond. They start with a slight indentation in the ground (basically the topsoil was scraped off of an area) and finish with a sizeable hill of crushed rock that fills what will someday be a pond.
This game has so much potential. Very buggy, which makes for hilarious content. But if this game gets fleshed out and fine tuned it’ll be an amazing play.

It doesn't work very well as a plow or bull dozer, and the ground has to be nearly flat or smooth for it to work. Your evaluation that it can create the super-elevation for a curved road is 100% correct and can be set to hold a specific angle in the controls.
19:00 in Canada we use them to shape the snowbank in nice rows so the snow blower get it all in the collection trucks. Urban legend says the dude who sold the idea was doing "snow" and said 'hey why not do that to the actual snow instead of compressing it down'

What if you "blast" a line/pathway of dirt and then flatten it with the weird dozer. I'm thinking it will be easy to flatten and stuff won't spawn on the brown dirt, only on the grass
This reminds me of when subnautica was first released and the terraformer broke the game because it had to work so hard to calculate all the destructible terrain. They ended up just removing it entirely because it was so freaking taxing on the hardware you ran it on.
I have never commented here before, but I had an aunt and have an uncle who were civil engineers, both built roads and bridges and whatnot in Dubai in the 80's . The aunt succumbed to COVID unfortunately she was the one in my family that was on an intellectual level lol her husband my uncle is teaching at university level but has not achieved tenure like he should have. I enjoy the heck out of your content but I think I may have to go into the timberborners wheel of shame as an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright. His designs are amazing and each a feat of engineering. if you want to have some items quickly you can use the shift cheat. You buy 2 items and you use left-shift with LMB sliding the item in your inventory. It give you half number of the item that you keep and can add to have infinit stuff :)
You can buy tracks for the excavator and dozer, and tires for the other vehicles, in the store. I haven’t figured out if it helps traction but I think it does.
the vehicle at 18:01 is called a "Motor Grader",it a self propelled grader that is used as ether the first or last step in building a road. its sole purpose is to actually flatten out the road area,the big blade under the middle is to me set at angle to send the dirt out the side. from what i know,they are indeed present in the United Kingdom,although maybe not as much as in places such as North America. also i think its funny how almost no one can name it or say what it does,ive seen it be called a crane before,ive seen someone say its another form of road roller,ive even seen someone call it a forklift.
You can upgrade the tracks and tires for your machines, was wondering if that would stop you from sliding around, while trying to dig. I don't own this game, just saw someone else upgrade the machines.
You being an engineer, you should play factorio, it's a top down factory game with TONNES of mods to help (or screw) yourself for HOURS of entertaining gameplay. And it is at full release so no need to worry about losing saves or deal with WIP stuff
Currently in school for mechanical engineering and so far weirdly the hardest part has been dealing with English comp because it's so picky and has little to do with the engineering.
You don't have road graders in the UK? Very common in the US. They're used to cut in the finish grade after other machines get it close. I've seen them used as snowplows too.

The RAM issue is probably related to the terraforming, which happens to a lot of games with 3D terraforming in it. It's a nice thing, but impossible to optimize.
I don't know which would be better, a Let's Game It Out collab or a competition. A competition on who can break the game more or both joining forces to break the game the hardest way possible. One way or another we'd witness to the biggest crimes against humanity ever commited.

You can turn off the destruction on the conveyor belt so you don’t break them whenever you touch it with the loader!
The road scraper would be used for leveling the road. We use them in the US to fix gravel roads once they get wash boards.

Saw another video, you can "drive" the vehicles and it teleports you to them from one of the menus so you don't have to run back and forth.
You should 100% check out this game again. its came so far since you last played.

You should have built up elevated ground beside the hopper or rude it into the ground so you had more clearance.

The wierd machine is a road scraper. It is used to scrape gravel of dirt roads so that they can lay new gravel.
