“If the University board would like to demonstrate that they want to regain the confidence of its staff and students, then they should start by cutting ties (with Israeli institutions) and establishing shared governance.“
    4. SOUNDBITE (English) Sarah Bracke, University of Amsterdam, Professor at the Department of Sociology:
“We're standing here beside our law faculty right there. International law is being taught here. We have a center for genocide studies on this campus. So, these are things that us scholars teach our students. And then when there is a genocide unfolding, there is impunity and no response. So, we are here for that, we as staff, we say we need our institutions to step up, stop doing harm and stop being complicit. It was a peaceful encampment, and it was beaten down by police. And as staff, we cannot accept that.”

    STORYLINE:
Students and staff at the University of Amsterdam staged a walk-out on Monday over the university’s handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
Police watched the protests unfolding after forming a barricade around faculty buildings, while demonstrators chanted.
Small clashes were seen between police and protesters.
Protesters are outraged by Israeli actions in its war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and have been calling on the university to sever academic relations with Israel.
Similar protests continue to take place across Dutch university in Groningen, Nijmegen, Utrecht, Wageningen and Leiden.
Student protests have been gaining momentum across Europe, following similar actions in the U.S. universities where several encampments have spread out.
The war started after the Palestinian militant groups attacked the southern of Israel, killing 1,200 people in a surprise attack and taking around 250 hostage.
Israel’s’ retaliatory military operation has killed more than 34,700 Palestinians, according to local health officials, and has devastated the Gaza Strip.

Wow, mass walkout !!!! Did it stop the war ??? Any free the hostages signs ?? Does shared governance mean the students will be making the decisions ? Does this mean that the University will be offering free college ??
