Thank you so much for this wonderful how to! And it’s beautiful design! I’m sure your mother will treasure this, not more than you, but I’m sure it will be right up there! lol…. What a good son! 🫶🏼
That came out beautifully. My son made me a wooden man to put into a plant pot. (he is seven). I hope your mom will cherish her lamp as much as I will cherish my boy's creation. Self-made gifts are so special, aren't they?
What an outstanding video! I absolutely loved watching your process, listening to you and of course Beethoven 9 👏. I cant think of a music edit that would have complemented this showcase of skill, love and dedication more.
There is actually a technique for handling glass that allows one to work with it without getting hurt. I don't mean to brag, but I have in fact never cut myself while working with glass. 😁 ...which reminds me of an ironic anecdote... One time I was browsing at a local stained glass shop here (that unfortunately closed down), and spent half an hour elbows-deep in piles of super-sharp and pointy glass pieces, without even a scratch. Then on the way out, I reached into my coat pocket, and got the nastiest paper-cut ever from a piece of paper I had in there! 😝
@@Bernice.Liting Some things I learned from books, or TH-cam; other things are learned from other craftsmen, but I have no 'formal education' in any of these crafts, so... yes, I guess! 😊 (my 'formal education' is Computer Science and Art 😉 )
I don’t know about you. I swear I got more than enough crafting knowledge from painting trying to make my own substrates and contraptions to make paintings. I wouldn’t sell having “art” as one of your “formal educations” out of the running as to why you’re good with things like this.
I bought a Hoosin shell/stained glass lamp made in Chicago in the mid-1990's for $20 at an estate sale. I was shocked to see (depending on design) selling (or should I say listing) on ebay for $400-1200. Literature on the subject declares these as one-of-a-kind art pieces. Even Chinese stained glass lamps are available in a wide range of prices. I bought a very heavy, flamboyant stained glass lamp for $250, used. Similar lamps are listed at $800+....I wonder if these will ever have regard as a work of art?
You’re blessed with an amazing talent, a kind, beautiful and thoughtful heart and patience of a saint. Thank you for sharing all of it with us. What a beautiful lamp I too love horses. Your mother is lucky to have such a gifted son a good son, a talented son, and above all a very thoughtful and sweet son
Beautiful its a gorgeous piece of art I know your mom loves and cheers this work of art. This will Positively Brighten your moms days and nights for the rest of her life. Its a perfect gift you're a great son Im sure your mom is very proud of you...😊
Last movement Beethoven's 9th-perfect choice for your finale. (I first heard it in Chicago's Adler Planetarium in the early 1950s. It was playing while people were ushered to their seats for the sky show.) Having a Tiffany style dragonfly or turtle lamp has always been a fantasy of mine. And, there it is at the beginning of the video-in shades of purple, one of my favorite colors. Is there a video of you making the base for your mom's lamp? Now, you had better hope that Boo doesn't want a lamp to go with her box, with dancing mice instead of horses.
Could some one order one from you? I had a house fire 4 years ago and lost several of my stained glass lamps. You are amazing! I love horses also Glad you can do this for you’re Mom!!❤🎄
Thank you! 😊 Sorry to hear about your house fire. I'm afraid I currently don't have the time to make lamps. Making this in a week was madness, they usually take a few weeks to make.
Most entertaining stain glass video on TH-cam I’ve seen, thank you for sharing the process! It turned out great and I’m excited to make one myself in the future
You’re the most thoughtful son in the world! 🥹 also thanks for the help with how to go about this!! I have an antique Heron base to a lamp that I’m going to try to recreate the shade for. Wish me luck 😅
Bravo!!! I did stained glass windows in the 60s & then gave all my stuff to my sister who kept at it until late in the 90s. I became a full time metalsmith in 81. I did hot forged bronze & silver. And am semi retired now I really very much appreciate that you showed in detail what such a job entails. It is a lot of work! Thanks for saying later on that it is a "Tiffany style"" lamp. People do not understand that if it is not made by Tiffany it is NOT Tiffany. (Sort of like saying you are painting a Picasso) I also appreciate that you did the fine detail finishing. Well done! I hope your mother liked it very much. I sure did!
I will never question the price of a Tiffany lamp again. 😭
Girl exactly what I was thinking
Alot of work goes into it.
They are pricey, but very pretty..
Now I know why it took you 7 years to finally start it. Hats off to you for completing it🎉
You did an awesome job designing that lamp! Tiffany would be proud

I'm most impressed that you didn't hurt yourself in the process. I think that makes it exceptional work alone.
