I grew up in the NE. I remember Spains, Sam Goody, Baskin Robins by the Wanamaker, Caplans… there was an arcade on the Orleans side… It’s all coming back.
I remember when it was S. Klein's. My mother and father would take me there every Friday night when I was 10 years old and would buy me a brand new Bobbsey Twins book to add to my collection.
Champions arcade used to be The Galaxy arcade. Hung out there many a days. Got my sneakers at Gold Medal. Used to drive the mall on Friday/saturday nights in the 80's. Flea market on Sundays. I lived at that mall during my youth.
Vales pet shop back in the 70s is where my dads best friend worked at and my dad favorite galaxy arcade. In the back of the mall there used to be a pool hall in the basement. I truly miss the radio shack and flea market that use to be there.
I did not live in the area put worked as an energy conservation inspector for the state. If I was working in that area this was my go to place for lunch. There always were many places to choose from. It is nice to see they are trying to upgrade it and continue to make it a useful place to both shop and eat.
I bought my Bose 401 wood grain floor stereo speakers at the Sam Goody at that mall in the late 1980s. I am still using/listening to those speakers 🔊 right now.
I worked at Wide World Travel in the 90’s over there where the Sears store is. I would walk across the street to the Roosevelt Mall on my lunch hour. Thanks for the tour!
They used to have a modells and fye which was like a cd store. I miss those movie theaters that used to be across the street and there was a toys r us a few blocks away.
We used to go to that mall all the time, it was always, See a movie at Orleans 8 then go to the Chinese buffet that used to be there then sometimes hit up the arcade ...miss those times!
I was surprised when Sprouts opened there, as I didn't think NE Philly was their demographic. Guess they did their research. I do my major food shopping there at least 2 times a week. Lots of organic products - I go for the organic vegetables and fruit. Much better than Trader Joe's, and less expensive than Whole Foods.
When I was a sakes representative for Hoover Company for a time I had both the Gimbel’s and Lit Brothers account and would visit those stores on a regular basis. The mall was usually always busy back then in the days before internet shopping and the big discount stores like Target and Walmart.
Yup-went to Northeast High (147) and LIVED at the Galaxy arcade in the early 80’s my friend. STILL have my house at Welsh and the Blvd and I teach Chemistry at Washington High School. ;-)
I remember going to that mall a lot in the 90s. In the mid 2000s. When I would go up to Philadelphia to visit my grandparents? They lived about a couple miles away from the mall. I used to walk to that mall from their house. When I was older. Or drive with my dad or my mom i also remember. That movie theater in the old Sears. Also, that grocery store you were talking about. I think across the street used to be a circuit city. On the other side of the boulevard was a K mart.
I don't remember if was the same owners from when they closed down a few years ago; but, that pizza place was there 30+ years ago when I was in highschool.
Fyi, Wikipedia has a complete "List of shopping malls in New Jersey". For many years I lived close to the Brunswick Square Mall in East Brunswick, NJ, but moved out of state in 1984. This mall opened in 1970 and had always been very busy during the years I lived there. I sometimes wonder how it's doing now when so many other malls are failing.
Anyone remember the Cavalier or Saverin? I think Cavalier had hot dogs boiled in beer and pinball machines in the back. It's where the Modell's was. I grew up behind the mall, I think they started building it in 1961 or 1962, I liked to go across the street and watch them build it. One time I got in trouble for going there on my own, I think I was around 6 or 7. It was opened in 1964, S. Klein on the square was the first anchor, then came Wanamakers, Hecht's, Strawbridge's and finally Macy's.
Enjoy your video! You missed a a bunch of popular but no longer there stores. ... Wall to Wall Sound - Sam Goody, Marlo books. Wall to Wall was at he corner now K pot BBQ then took over the old Doral, now LA Fitness. Sam Goody was next to Claires. I ran both ... great times and memories . Now living in NJ - too much crime I won't go back there except maybe to visit Steve's Prince of Steaks .. the BEST IMO! How about the Roosevelt Mall sidewalk sale in June and the car parades on Friday and Saturday nights that got of out control and hurt business .. lol!
I miss the ole chinese King Buffet than I think it was renamed Lucky 5 Stars Buffet where the Ross went. Also ole Coconuts, The Wall, Modell's, or even the young young memories of Herman's and Roy Roger's (Wendy's now).
damn, Way Out is still there? That was one of my stops back in the 90s. Loved their t shirts. They used to be on the other side across the parking lot back then. It was The Galaxy Arcade in the 80s and then was renamed Champions in the 90s. JD Sports used to be Modells.
When Wanamaker's was here the men's rooms were somewhat popular, and I'll leave it at that. Thank God, no Crocs. I'm not sure if this area is called a mall. Look up definition
How could you fail to see or mention the completely burned down/destroyed apartment building complex at the 26:57 mark? You can't miss it when you walk past, and you walked right past it.
I grew up in the NE. I remember Spains, Sam Goody, Baskin Robins by the Wanamaker, Caplans… there was an arcade on the Orleans side… It’s all coming back.
The Sam Goody became Coconuts. Used to be a big Hallmark store also back in the day.
Grew up in Olney, went to Dougherty. Lived at the Orleans every weekend. Bought early video games at the Kiddie City behind it.
Marathon Grill, Herman’s or Gold Medal, what was the tee shirt shop called?!?
The arcade was The Galaxy.
Marlo Books, Sam Goody, Wall to Wall sound and Radio Shack were my favorite stores there decades ago!
I loved that mall back in the day !!
The Macy's store was originally S.Klien on the Square before Strawbridges. I'm that old! LOL

I remember the pool hall on the backend of the Roosevelt Mall
Arthur Treacher fish and chips
My friends and I used to cruise this Mall in a 1986 Ford Thunderbird on the weekends, just drive in circles
Hey Philly Captain, Friday into the weekend..Great mall video from Roosevelt Mall-NE Phila during the Christmas holiday season.. Enjoy your day..
I remember in the 90s I had a crush on the red head from Russia named Dee who worked at the Macy's 😍
Vales pet shop back in the 70s is where my dads best friend worked at and my dad favorite galaxy arcade. In the back of the mall there used to be a pool hall in the basement. I truly miss the radio shack and flea market that use to be there.

This Macy's was originally built for Gimbels department stores... Gimbels and Lit Brothers were very big in Philly in those days...
When I was a sakes representative for Hoover Company for a time I had both the Gimbel’s and Lit Brothers account and would visit those stores on a regular basis. The mall was usually always busy back then in the days before internet shopping and the big discount stores like Target and Walmart.
Gimbels and Lits were further west on Cottman. The Macy's was originally S. Klein Department store.
Gimbels was where Sears was.
Ug sneakers from Ross? Will check them out. Your recommendation means something because you’re on your feet a lot.🐾

Why don’t you say the Day and Time you’re doing your video. So people can evaluate the crowds.
How do you feel about the changes in the mall?

Why Do u Wait Until the Last minute Doing Christmas Shopping That's Mean You Wasn't Thinking About it
Or had to wait to be able to afford it. It’s been a rough year for many. I hope everyone gets to enjoy the holidays
I wait till the last minute because i walk malls almost every day in December. I am 95% done shopping
