Sammy Farha was once one of the biggest stars in poker. He lost the 2003 World Series of Poker to Chris Moneymaker and etched his name into poker history. But since then, Sammy Farha hasn't been heard of often. That is until he got into a physical fight with a dealer...

Blaming a dealer for the cards dealt is like blaming a gum ball machine for giving u the wrong color gum
Tipping a dealer for good cards dealt is like tipping a gum ball machine for giving u some gum
@@bobbywhite1645 Good point.
I’m in Houston and almost every dealer has a Sammy story. Years before this incident there was one at Prime Social. He kept berating and berating a dealer until the guy said “alright, let’s take it outside” and proceeded to head out to the patio. Sammy freaked out and called the cops. Prime ended up banning him.
Who was the dealer, and do you remember the year?
It remember this. It was right around the time AP hit that jackpot and they didn’t pay him. I’m thinking 19 or 20. He a Peter head to dealers, it’s ridiculous
He was welcome at the Palm, only because Mike was in awe of him lol
Players who blame dealers for the playing cards they are dealt are moronic and I want them in my game.
Haha as a dealer stories like these are great
I remember thinking in like 2005 when I'd be in tournaments and see some of these guys treated like movie stars by the public that this was all gonna backfire. Because a lot of guys, like Sammy, who were being put on that pedestal were just lowdown gamblers. I'd see people having their kids take pictures with these guys like they played shortstop for the Yankees and thinking this is highly f'ing twisted.
You shouldn't idolize ball players either.
@@erebus79 Ideally you're right, but if we assume children are going to look up to somebody, you can do a lot better than gamblers.
@@bennylevine387 I don't feel that someone who gambles is necessarily good or bad. Most everyone gambles one way or another.
@@timorthelame1it’s the persona the one exudes, usually fame intensifies ones douchery to another level……
Nothing wrong with idolizing someone on their merit off the field or felt, what they’ve done on the field or felt is what makes them known or popular in the first place and a genuinely humble person will use that responsibility and for good intentions.
Just look at nadal, Duncan, crosby, Beckham, Trout and let’s not forget fedor and GSP.
What makes a short stop special? He's just a man in tights chasing balls.
The hand the haunts Farha the most wasn't the last hand against Moneymaker, it was the one before when Moneymaker bluffed him out of the winning hand.
It costs nothing to be kind and yet that's still out of Sammy's price range.
makes sense since hes notoriously cheap when it comes to tipping staff.
This channel is awesome man. You do a really good job. Keep up the good work, and people and the subs will follow,
what's also interesting about Sammy is that he is totally busto...a sick degenerate blackjack player ....dusted off pretty much all of his poker winnings in the pits on a daily basis .he was a fixture in the Bellagio blackjack pit and we used to see him there on a daily basis ..losing and steaming ....i would be shocked to learn if he ever plays higher than a $5 blind game of PLO (his game of choice) in Houston...even when he played on HSP back in the day he was always 100% staked by Lyle Berman and some others....until they got tire of him losing their money in the pits and dropped him ...he left vegas shortly after that...broke
Amazing how a player gets to the point where they abuse the dealer who does nothing but run the game lke a human robot. Player who abuse dealers should be banned.
Dealt myself many years ago, and now that I'm on the other side of the felt, treat them with respect and dignity, so long as they're respectful.
My favorite line: "Hey, he/she is at work. You want someone to come to your job and give you a hard time for no reason?"
@@jasonfullerton7763 A few years back, I was playing PLO cash at the WSOP one day and we had a dealer who was inexperienced; it could be spotted in the first five minutes. Guy to my right was leaning on her a little and I finally turned to him and gently said something, but it got my point across and he laid off. Turns out this lady was fresh from dealer school.
@@hushpuckena126 So many of them just aren't respectful anymore. I used to deal poker too and as you might guess I'm a real good tipper, but there's a couple of dealers that I have made a point of stiffing a few times recently, for their blatant intentional disrespect on top of their incompetence that has cost me a number of big pots. If you are ever in Columbus Ohio and you end up playing at Hollywood Casino's poker room, you will see exactly what I'm talking about in short order. How they speak to elderly players is horrible to the point of bullying. And they run off a lot of the larger fish too. They often have way less games going than some of the small private clubs around town.
actually, if the poker community dealt with them properly they would ban themselves.
"He is not liked by dealers anywhere" 100%
Are you a dealer?
Why tho?
He was always a class act as i remember
I was not only a dealer and floor supervisor for poker but I was also a well respected instructor for both and I can say this sentiment is true. I have never met a dealer whom was fond of him in almost 20 years in the casino industry.
Im a poker Dealer, floor man&player for over 35years and nobody likes Sammy. But then again he’s not the only one that out there and it mostly your high limit players that are the Biggest Assholes!
@@PokerBoomYT I’m not the dealer, but I saw situations when he lost the pot and he told the female dealers “ you look very ugly and bad dealer why do the place still keep you”.
Sad to hear this about Sammy Farha . Still loved the way he played . Lots of people who lost to him would love this bad news .
i loved hism gamble, sammy loved to gamble.
Sammy will always be known for not calling Money Makers bad naked bluff and securing the main event bracelet in 2003.
😂😂 💯
Funny, that’s not at all how I remember him. The epic bluff Chris pulled off was not the kind an experienced pro would have made. This worked in Chris’ favor. Also, the pressure for the win sat squarely on Sammy. There was comparatively nothing to lose for Chris. Those hands were epic, but what I distinctly remember was Sammy’s calm good natured congratulations of Chris’ in the moments after what would have been a devastatingly gut wrenching loss. It showed a character worthy of admiration, likability and respect. Sammy was cut from a different cloth. For me, he was the personification of something romantic that once existed about the game before it became solved. He was like a call back to riverboat gamblers before his time. He brought a unique style with his impeccable attire, cool hand luke banter, creative unconventional fearless play style - all with an unlit cigarette dangling from his lips. He was his own man and that scores high on the genuinely cool list for me. His plays and presence on cash game series “high stakes poker” was legendary. I can think of few players more entertaining to watch.
@@MickJagger-el6of good post. Sammy was/is a classic. Moneymakers all in seemed like an incongruent story. Sometimes hero calls are what makes champions.
He is total trash. Best story I ever heard about him was when he jokingly threw a $25k chip toward a dealer saying "there's a tip for you" (he notoriously never tips, since he hates dealers), the dealer says thank you and shoves the chip in his pocket just like dealers are supposed to do with all tips. Sammy obviously protested saying it was a joke and wanted the chip back. The casino can't make the dealer return it to him though, so he kept it and quit at the end of the event that he was working as a temp employee. I can't say it's 100% true, but the floor supervisor who told it to me was not the type to tell stories or spread rumors, especially about players.
True story. I was a horseshoe dealer
@@tommyguns9008 That's where I was working, after it was sold though.
thank you for bringing such a worthless bit of 2nd hand hearsay, the world needs much more rumor and hearsay
Dealers don’t put tips directly into their pockets normally. They put them in a box and all dealers split them at the end of the night. At least that’s how most casinos do it anyway.
@@forsaken7976 In 10 years dealing in Vegas, I never worked in a room that pooled tips from live games. The only time I ever recall seeing a room do it, was one year at the WSOP.
Guess Sammy never caught a serious old fashioned attitude adjustment
I dealt at the horseshoe way back and Sammy was everyone's buddy. Dealers loved him. Gsme got to him. True character came tbrough.
Yeah after enough lossses anyone becomes miserable.Destroys and love left in a person....or can...

You mean HIS game got to him. That loose calling style can win you some money, but in the long run it will cost you everything. The game evolved, he didn't adjust and got punished. Should've looked in the mirror first...
Mustve been 30 years ago because he was shown being an asshole in the 2003 wsop coverage to a dealer
i remember dealing to him at the horseshoe in the day, he's always been a POS.
I saw him playing $10 Pai Gow poker at Aria a few years ago. You see all these classic clips and don't realize how long ago they happened. Then you see these people today and they look so old.
Very true

That hand with Jamie Gold was so crazy lol.
Good for TV. He was the perfect 2. place in 2003. Just out of a movie.
I met him several times at lauberge Louisiana who was very nice to dealers and to players.
No, he isn't nice to dealers and never has been

You sound like John Krazinski from The Office. Has anyone ever told you that?
Pissing off other players and talking shit to them is part of the game.If your mind game is weak it will be the weapon of choice for opponents who know your weakness.Treating people in the service industry or someone doing their job like shit because you think they have to take it or risk losing their job,is unfair and classless.Bullies who lash out with their anger or frustration on workers while they are performing their duties,to pay their bills, is unwarranted and will eventually be checked on their bullshit. When at work it is sometimes necessary to kiss ass but one should never eat shit.I have informed tough guys, on several occasions,of what time I would be clocking out and where it would be possible to meet to air their grievances about my job performance, or lack thereof,in their opinion,or to express their opinion of me in general.Strangely, not one time, have I been taken up on the offer and the majority of times recieve an apology for their comments.Take the name tag off and go on break to listen to these bullies and suddenly it's all good and they didn't mean it and blablabla.A bitch slap is a learning aid for idiots who like to talk down to people just doing their job.Now on the other hand,if I am inept or cannot adequately perform my duties then I will be fired and don't need constructive criticism from an employment efficiency consultant providing free help.I ll be off at two and will be out front if you have anything else to say.Silence...
Yeah that's what I did too. Unfortunately, several people took me up on the offer and kicked my ass during my own coffee break 😂
Just like anywhere, you got good people and then you got worms. Unavoidable.
He's the Earl 'The Pearl' Strickland of poker, it seems. 😎
Floor managers need to do more to control players like this. I once witnessed a similar issue where a player that was losing started berating the dealer over and over. The floor was called repeatedly and didn't do anything. The guy went on to lose yet another pot and called the dealer a "F$&king little monkey" (he was asian, the player was white). The dealer snapped and flung his entire chip tray at the player. The dealer was fired. Due to overwhelming player support he was hired back on about a year later.
Sammy is notorious for being a huge douche at the tables too, making people chip huge stacks of cash so he could flex, only for him to play two hands, or none at all(playing black jack) and just leave the table, stiffing dealers and staff on tips and stuff like that. There was a thread on reddit(so take it with a grain of salt) where someone said they had a friend who was a poker dealer who was dealing a table Sammy was at where won a pot for like over 1 mil, maybe even 2 mil i cant remember, dude didnt even throw a single chip to the dealer. Real cheapass.
not a sole came here to hear your stories about someone who is not remotely part of this video... this is not about you
@@slowery43 Not a soul needs you to speak for them. This is not about you.
Im amazed how managers just allow some of these assholes to go on and on....like, how badly do you need that morons rake?
He doesn't tip. Weird you wouldn't mention that. That's a good way to get dealers to hate you
I loved watching Sammy. He was a real character of the game but I'd always heard he was a real dick especially to fans.
No wonder people hated him and the second time he got into it with a dealer, that dealer had enough. If Sammy had been in really rare form, then sadly, karma came for Sammy that day.
Most of the "characters" of the time, were grade A dicks.
Farha has always been a jerk.
Remember him from high stakes poker. Loved the gamble in him but he waa always waisting time and was annoying.
I’m here hoping to see Sammy get slapped back to the 90s
That's what she said
Not surprised dealers don't like him. He blames the dealers when things don't go his way.
Chris Moneymaker I remember when I first heard that name I thought to myself that has to be a nickname there's no way that's his real name boy was I wrong
Coulda swore i saw him say its not actually moneymaker
He is banned almost everywhere in Houston !
I heard a story where Phil Hellmuth got punched out by a player, cant remember the puncher but i think it was on Fremont St outside Binnions.
I'm pretty sure it was Sam Grizzle who put one on Hellmuth, so legend goes.
I hope he has a comeback ! He’s entertaining!
He is a loosing player
He was always entertaining on HSP. Also I’ve seen him with 3 packs of cigarettes but never smoked one lol
Sammy was the epitome of a Vegas degenerate.
He had the name, the look, the style, the mannerisms. He could have been a Scorsese charachter. He was born to be that guy lol.
I have seen a few cash game shows where he was there, and he was civil, charming, funny... a benefit to the show.
But I am not surprised at all that he is a jerk sometimes. I could see he is arrogant as well. And running unlucky definitely evokes emotions 😂.
But you never blame the dealer. They don't even shuffle the cards themselves. They may as well be a robot. Its like getting mad at the TV.
Dude...I yell at the TV all the time 😂
@@GenXstacker yeah me too. Life long Detroit Lions fan here. 😂🤣😆 But we don't blame the TV.
Like Phil Helmuth... crying and complaining to nobody, shaking a fist at the sky. Ranting to yourself and vaguely refering to "them" 🤣 thats how you do it. The dealer doesn't have any control over the deck order.
I, on a handful of occasions, had Farha sitting in the 9/10 seat within striking distance. I am not a man whom hates anyone and yet Sammy Farha is the exception. No person with the venomous tirades he embraces and spews forth to fellow human beings could love themselves let alone love others. This dealer is my new hero. Someone finally put Sammy in his place. I left the industry in much the same manner as he except actual physical contact was not involved. (Not to say I didn't threaten such contact.) But that is what happens when you push a human being to their limits. I had my chance back in 2006 to go off on him when he sat in a very high limit mixed game. It boiled down to the respect I had for the other players at the table (only two I would identify because they have passed away were Doyle Brunson and Chip Reese.) that I didn't slam the stub into Farha's face. (Stub: the cards in the dealers hand after all cards have been used or the pot was awarded prior.)
Obviously you want won't want to bad mouth any top pros who are jerks at the table but are they any well known pros who you can mention who treated the staff really well/were great to deal to?
How much money did Sammy have? Can't see him lasting very long in the mixed games against Chip & Doyle 😅
Which is probably why he dropped over 2 million on one of his birthdays. The regular "big game" big names in the mid 2000's were present from time to time in the game. They were Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, Negreanu, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harmon, Barry Greenstein, David Benyamine, Patrick Antonius and few others. His loss was a happy day for me.@@bigSnayFan
Certainly. Daniel Negreanu was an absolute pleasure to deal to. As was Jennifer Harmon, Barry Greenstein, Gus Hansen, David Benyamine and the late greats Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson.@@CrazyLarry23

One would imagine being a millionaire would cool your jets a little, but I’ll never know. 🤷♂️
Running your mouth can one day come to haunt you. And it usually does. I luv poker and I have my favorites. But there not heros.
Ffs I hear dealers being blamed for bad runs all the time; it is part of their job to suck it up at the table and know that it is just a release valve for players who are losing money while they are being paid ( and tipped by the losers opponents). You are there to serve the players ( and take your boss’s rake) not to react or escalate ( tbf there are limits to how anyone should be treated but I’m not hearing anything about this player being overly aggressive or personal, just whining about bad hands or beats). Also as a top pro and tv player he has a right to say that he is uncomfortable with another player being at his table, and to be fair this video didn’t say that this is what he said. It says that he informed the venue that there might be an issue with the other player ( which proved to be correct). This guy lost his job because he couldn’t be professional and his actions later proved that he is a hot head and violently reactionary person.
I've heard a lot about Sammy Farha.........all bad.
"sammy bet 175k and Moneymaker raised to 300k"
This is wrong by you guys for sure
Not nescessarily. Different rules allow for different raise sizes.
@@LLlap explain
@@mattym8 Well, I was thinking of a 3-bet, if there was a 50k bet and a 175k raise then a 300k raise would be allowed.
But in the actual hand it was a 175 k bet with a 475 raise which was counted out as a good old movie-like "I call your 175, and raise you 300!" and maybe that`s why it was on the video.
Which would make it wrong because they said raised to 300k. Not possible since they clearly stated 1 bet and 1 raise
if the blinds were anywhere between 25k/50k and 40k/80k then it’s a completely legal reraise. You on have to at least match the previous raise . So if it’s 25k/50k raise to 175k is 125k raise so 300k would be a min raise

Who is Jamie
@Robespierre7 Jamie Gold. He was on High Stakes poker and in a hand with Sammy. Jamie was trying to use his talk of persuasion against Sammy in a hand, where Jamie got dealt poker Kings and Sammy got dealt pocket Aces. They bet preflop, then both agreed to see the flop, then check dark, then reraised each other and Sammy kept on trying to tell Jamie that he had him and Jamie was pleading with him you don't, but let's just check it down. I have you beat. At one point in the hand, Jamie said that Sammy had Aces, but Sammy, I believe, never acknowledged it. So Sammy wanted to bet, and Jamie kept telling him, "You better not." Let's just check it down. So Sammy unfortunately agreed, only because Sammy said he like Jamie, and Jamie got to keep like $180,000 behind, even though if Sammy bet it, Jamie would have called. I believe it was High Stakes Poker Season 4? If not, then Season 3. But definitely one to watch.

Sammy Farha is the reason why High Stakes poker was the #1 poker show. He was the man, but he's a gambler, a degenerate gambler. So is Phil Ivey, they're all kind of pieces of shit to an extent but I love them anyways. Even like, Chris Ferguson and the full tilt stuff, not really different than what Phil Ivey did scamming baccarat tables for years, playing with advantages in cash games for years, ruining his reputation. Sammy was respected though like no other but some despise him as well. But sadly for him, he made a bad laydown heads up, and the rest is history. Him and Erik Seidel, TJ Cloutier and Dewey Tomko, are for sure the best players to be runner up but never won it. He was always a cash game player though, not a tournament player. So, him still winning a few bracelets into 2010 is very impressive considering he barely played WSOP tournaments! But almost none of them are good guys. If you think they are, you're naive and quite frankly, clueless. Sammy is A goat level cash game player, for sure 1 of the top 9 ever
You have no clue what you're talking about regarding Phil Ivey. Phil Ivey used his BRAIN to outsmart casinos. If a casino is stupid enough to agree to use the specific type of cards Ivey asked them to use because he had discovered a printing irregularity on that specific type of cards..... good for him. That's smart... that's not cheating. Also, Ivey's reputation is fine. Casinos fear him.
What do you mean by Phil Ivey playing with advantages in cash games?
Who cares if dealers like him, theye job is to deal the cards not pull for certain players, most dealers pull for who tips the most, plain and simple

One of those high stakes poker shows, he lightly berated a dealer and stared at her, if anybody remembers. Gave Kaplan said something about it. Sammy obviously held back due to it being on TV I'm sure. But he did say something like "this dealer is unbelievable " and stared at her....or something along those lines. On another note, it works both ways in regards to dealers too. I was playing the circuit a few years back, and this big fat super obese dealer from New York city complete with the attitude, said to me, after some joking conversation, "I'm gonna deal you some winners". I lost a hand and said "I thought you were gonna give me a winner'...he says "maybe you need to play better". Then says "any time someone needles me, I needle back... every time". I just let his obvious serious smart ass comment go, but it wasn't long after that, maybe a year or so, I saw him playing instead of dealing. He probably got complained on and was fired.
