Yes
YESSSS 1000X YES!!!.
🙏🙏🙏
Most definitely YES PLEASE!
Dont forget John Howe doing the artwork
These past few days have been difficult with the passing of Bernard Hill, may he rest in peace. I know as a fan I needed this. I'm hopeful but also cautious.
@GoatLuffy_97 I just learned. NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! how sad!!!!
Same. Hopeful but cautious.
Let's just hope PJ and everyone are allowed the time they need to get it right, like they had with LotR. I liked The Hobbit films, but we know how rushed and last minute it all was, being messed around by the studio like that.
Bernard Hill died!? 😢 And so he goes to the hall of his fathers …
as a fan, we didn't need this tbh
I hope Warner didn't release this news on the back of Bernards death.
I still maintain that there's an incredible and beautiful movie potential in the story of Beren and Lúthien.
WB do not have the rights for this. Everything related to the Silmarillion remains with the Tolkien Estate and this is not likely to change.
Again off limits.
That story REALLY needs a whole series of movies setting up the first and second ages.
I feel like a junkie who was told their fix is on the way, I cannot wait. When I first saw the video I felt like gollum when he got the precious, jumping around yelling yes
The saga of Turin Turambar would be EPIC!!! The range of emotions, tragedy, and revenge would be terrific.
For gods sake leave Tolkien alone.
children of Hurin is my favourite from all the pre-LOTR stories. Any adaptation is setup to fail in my eyes.
Yaas! I’d also love to see the story of Beren and Luthien. That would be epic.
WB do not have the rights for this. Everything related to the Silmarillion remains with the Tolkien Estate and this is not likely to change.
They can't adapt a First Age tale because the Tolkien Estate owns them exclusively. The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and other First Age source material are off limits.
Our family huddled around a phone and just watched this. So many emotions and so much gratitude. ❤
I hope they use the style and theme for these films, like the way fellowship was done. Cinematography, great script, less cgi, more world building and bringing the otherworldly magic that fellowship had. The rest of the saga was good but fellowship just carried me away to middle earth unlike the others.
Agreed. I’m a little more harsh on the hobbit movies than you because I think new line cinema created not the hobbit with what they did. It was grossly inaccurate and splitting the direction with guy was the wrong move.
By no means whatsoever was there anything ever approaching "less CGI" in the LOTR trilogy.
It was just composited better, and so you didn't notice.
@Soniti1324 there was less cgi in the fellowship compared to its use in the others. Its well documented and also frequently commented on by Peter Jackson, viggo and the others that it's their favourite movies for the fact it relied less on cgi and so the actors could actually be on location and speaking to eachother rather than talking in green screen.
@@Soniti1324 just compare the orcs from the hobbit to lotr and you'll see how obvious the difference is
I just hope they can't be worse than those awful Hobbit movies. Right ? right ?? 🤢
a 10 film Silmarilion saga, lets go Peter
Would love to see Fingolfin vs Morgoth live action
They can't adapt The Silmarillion. Only the Tolkien Estate owns it and other First Age/Elder days stories.
World needs healing after all the crap we have been through.
Tv and movies have only worked to desecrate and divide in recent years.
@@carbonara2144 Agreed 👍
I might be exception but i would not want to see faces from lotr again. It was over 20 yrs ago and the actors are well... old (one of them dead already. R.I.P Theoden) The casting was excellent last time, why it could not be great again? A vote for fresh faces.
Also the actor who plays Saruman is old old, they would have to do the most to make him look younger
@@achichachi8825 They would also have to resurrect him from the grave.
😂@@ChrisCards
@@ChrisCards literally just realized that. Thanks for catching it.
Necromancy isn’t uncommon in the legendarium, just sayin
I desperately want John Howe and Alan Lee to be back, Howard Shore aswell.
Here is the timeline for Gollum between Bilbo finding the One Ring and Gollum being imprisoned in the Woodland Realm:
2941 Bilbo meets Gollum and finds the Ring.
2951 Gollum turns towards Mordor.
2980 About this time Gollum reaches the confines of Mordor and becomes acquainted with Shelob.🕷️
3001 Gandalf seeks for news of Gollum and calls on the help of Aragorn.
3009 Gandalf and Aragorn renew their hunt for Gollum at intervals during the next eight years, searching in the vales of Anduin, Mirkwood, and Rhovanion to the confines of Mordor.
3009-3017 At some time during these years, Gollum himself ventured into Mordor, and was captured by Sauron.
3017 Gollum is released from Mordor. He is taken by Aragorn in the Dead Marshes, and brought to Thranduil in Mirkwood.
It will not feel the same at all without Howard Shore. He is a big reason why I remember the movies so fondly.
I still think The silmarillion, specifically Fëanor, the oath and the unrelenting quest for his precious silmarillions would be epic. Ungoliant and Morgoth, the Kinslaying… that would be my dream.
Don't forget ancalagon
@@angelolima4811 how could I not! All of Morgoth’s allies are glorious and deserve recognition!
Yaaas
@@achichachi8825 yes unlike ring of power
Those would be the most epic films ever if done correctly 🔥
I hope they will have enough time to make amazing practical effects! I really miss those so bad…
Yes, in camera effects are always better (IMHO). 😊
I would love to see the side war up at Dale, then the unfinished tale by Tolkien about the Sauron death cults, then to finish the Fourth Age trilogy new story about Radagast, Gimli and Legolas going east into post-war Rhun or beyond to find and confront the Blue Wizards before the last boat departs west.
Hopefully they learn that there's a good balance in CGI and traditional special effects. Like in in LOTR.
Yes
I hope Ian will return as Gandalf.
More dwarf stories would be cool, like a full movie on the Battle of Azunulbazar. I just played through this storyline on LotRO yesterday, so it's fresh in my mind.
The story will be about Gollum
Aragorn, protecting the Shire and brie from the surrounding enemies. -- A little more of Gollum backstory.-- Fleshing out the search for Golium, as Eluded to in the council of Elrond.-- I would love to see all that fleshed out.
I have chills. Andy Serkis. Wow
don’t get your hopes up. they will be force to add woke elements for the sake of it. he made the hobbit films as well don’t forget and they were bad films. We won’t get the same quality as lord of the rings trilogy
@@paulwoodford1984 Jesus christ right wing ideology really is a mental illness, get help, son
@@paulwoodford1984Actually, they are mid films to me. So not as masterpiece, but still decent on their own terms. Don’t know if I said it right.
@@paulwoodford1984 Embracer owns the rights, and that company is controlled by a non-woke billionaire dude.
War of North will be great so we could see a greater cover of the War of the Ring. We can people like Dain, Brand, Thranduil and Celborn on screen too!
A battle for middle earth movie or are you talking about shadow of mordor timeline
@@angelolima4811 A battle of Middle Earth that is mentioned in the appendixes of ROTK
@@starrynight6268 i guess your agreeing with me
I would love for PJ to do another trilogy based upon the war in the north, the attacks on Lothlorien, the battle under the trees in Mirkwood and the second battle for Erebor all culminating in the siege of Dol Guldur and Galdariel using the last of her ring's power to destroy it.
peter doesnt have any big trilogies left in him. I think him producing is a much better move for him, theres not so much stress on him like there was on the hobbit. I hope he also gets the pre production time he needs
We'll see what happens. I'm a little skeptical. I think the greatness of Jackson's films were many great things coming together that's difficult to replicate. I don't think we'll get something as great as the trilogy just by bringing a handful of key players back together.
Yes, let's see what happens. You never know, we might get lucky!
You’re right, and your point is strengthened by the fact that the Hobbit movies were dogshit…
I agree, nothing is certain. Bringing Jackson back isn’t necessarily a slam dunk, but I think bringing back some
If the old team is a huge step in the right direction
The greatness is the story ... not Mr. Jackson's mediocre interpretation.
@@deathshredking A very polite description.
Speaking of deleted scenes from LoTR, just YT unreleased scenes from LoTR, the video is over 1 hour long, full of tons of scenes!!!
This is so exciting!
Apparently it’s called “the hunt for Gollum”.
Assuming this is when Gandalf and Aragorn searched for him before Frodos journey?
Please just de age digitally Viggo and bring back Sir Ian Mckellan.
Read the books and find out.
@@user-nz6dx2fj6h obviously I did if I’m aware of the time period. Guy.
Jackson sniffing out that money 😆
Wow really? How will they make 3 movies out of that? 3 different stories maybe? That will probably be stronger than a trilogy.

Please Ilúvatar guide the film makers so they don’t take a large dump on Tolkien’s legacy 🙏
Too late!
The Hobbit was the beginning.
@@diverguy3556 honestly with rings of power out I have newfound respect for the hobbit movies 😭
You mean "don't take a large dump on Tolkien's legacy " right? LotR was great (some of my favorite movies of all time) but the rest has been rough
@@diverguy3556 LOTR ... too many omissions and too many additions.
PJ we need the 25th anniversery edition!
The Lord of the rings war in the North was an amazing game back in 2010 I would love to see a live-action version of that story
Good memories from me, I was Bernard Hill's Postman, when he played Yosser Hughes in boys from the black stuff. A great guy R.I.P. Bernard.
Beren and Luthien and the fall of Gondalin would be AMAZING to see
Silmarillion… they don`t have rights to those…
The Lay of Beren and Luthien please 🙏🏿 😊
Seconded!
They can't, that along with other First Age stories from The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales is owned by the Tolkien Estate. They can't just adapt that. No film or distributing company has the rights.
@@Alexs.2599 aahh I see, that's unfortunate 🙆🏿♂️
@@normanori-ox7bg Yep true. Maybe one day but for now it's what it is.
I would love to have Elrond/Hugo cameo, show his relationship to young Aragorn before the Gollum quest.
I tried asking a question when I did the sticker, but it didn’t work. I’m wondering if they would consider adding more, or just do a movie focusing more on the elves while they are in Rivendell and Lothlorien? I know war is a big part of the stories, but I feel like more focus on just the lives of elves such as Arwen, Galadriel, Elrond, etc not during big battles would be nice. I would like to see how they lived etc. don’t know if I’m making any sense. I just know it wasn’t all war, and would love to see some more peaceful times focused on 💗
2026 seems very close. Obviously I want it now but I also want them to take their time with these.
There is an honesty in everything you do and that is what makes the channel so valuable 👏
New subscriber here after the news. Loved this stream guys!
When was the last time I clicked THAT FAST!!!! on a link?
I just want to see the first - second age era ,the gigantic battles, the hidden lore of the nameless things ,the lore of creation, or movies focusing on the blue wizards traveling and liberating the Eastern regions, its so much lore in this property
The new movies are definitely in the right hands! So excited for this!
I really hope they adapt the same approach to the new films as they did the LotR trilogies. More special effects, than relying on CGI. I would rather wait another year, than have a full film of over the top CGI - BUT I am still super excited! 😝
Definitely pumped for this!
Beren and Luthien would be a dream, think it would make fantastic stand alone film. I know mixed results from Hobbit but I think their hearts are really in right place. I believe! Stoked! Some stand alone movies from this team could be so cool
As exciting as this is, a truly sad fact is that we will not see the return of the late camera master Andrew Lesnie, who's work on the trilogy's cinematography were a HUGE part of why it managed to maintain it's epic scope throughout.
No matter how good these new films may be, that aspect will be sorely missed by practically every legit fan out there.
omg I didn't even know he died :(
I wish I could replay the chat. I only caught the last few minutes of this livestream earlier today. And I have come back to watch it from the beginning. I know that some livestreams do have the ability to rewatch the chat later on. But I don’t know how it is enabled in some cases but not others.🤷♀️
@57:20 the answer is YES because it is ALL works of Tolkien, adaptations aside
What time did you start this live stream? I'm usually up by 6 AM. Sometimes by 4 AM. Mountain time
Oooo! Aragorn's travels! That would be awesome! Aragorn dealing with Gollum's "Nasty Man! Mean filthy Man!"
Alex skarsgard as a younger Aragorn is perfect! He can easily pull of the character.. the same age now as Viggo was back then! And Skarsgard is very tall! He would give more of a book-type look to Aragorn
I can see that. He was great in The Nortman
I think that there are almost endless possibilities with the Gollum story. The scarcity of details offered up by Gandalf and Aragorn about the hunt for Gollum will give Philippa and Fran a blank canvas as far as script without having to deal with too much Canon or lore to have to reconcile. There would be lots of elves, lots of Mordor, and the whole geography of Middle Earth, even without one giant set battle piece. I am super pumped to not have to be locked into the books.
The Hunt for Gollum is perfect. I am sick of large battles. I want some smaller ME stories!
The War in the North is such a good idea and makes so much sense since Legolas alluded to it in RotK. Imagine if we could actually get more War of the Ring material, that'll be such an epic marathon! If it ever happens, would love to see Lee Pace and Marton Csokas return as Thranduil and Celeborn respectively.
Yay for this! I know there will have to be differences, but i hope it connects/echoes past Middle Earth movies moreso LOTR in a cohesive/familiar way.
I think I'm going to delve back into my book shelves, find the books and start re-read the trilogy one by one, including the appendices and might as well re-read Unfinished Tales.
Doesn't gollum get captired and tortured in mordor ~ so a major plot will be gollums journey from the shire to morder and his escape. With some kind of torture / interrogation scenes being a dramatic part of the tale.
This will be amazing that PJackson is coming back.
With the way modern onscreen storytelling is often done, e.g. flashbacks, flashforwards, sideflashes, etc., you could pretty much tell any story from any perspective. If done right, and faithful to the source material, it could be great.
I’d love to see the Angmar war and the fall of the kingdom of Arnor.
I'm cautiously excited. I HOPE it will be good- because PJ and Co.- BUT seeing what today's movies look like... I am scared as well.
BUT- I need more elves! :D
31:00 I will say that in a albeit silly technicality. They referenced Thrawn a few years before the Ahsoka show via Star Wars Rebels. I think it’s good for them to be trying to do something different.
Anything will be better than the dumpster that is on amazon prime.
Also, you have a spot-on Gollum impression
I just hope for the 1st age to be the one, we finally have the equipment to handle those great battles
Fall of Arnor
Fall of Khazadum
Minas Ithil to Minas Morgul
Founding of Rohan...etc.
There's a few third age stories that can be adapted before they can get their hands on the rights to the Silmarillion, the Unfinished Tales, or even the Fall of Numenor books.
With Jackson & company back in it, I'm excited!!
Most of the movies I would want to see are in The Silmarillion, or at least stuff that happened before the Hobbit. Just like I wish Disney would move on from Skywalker and do something from the Old Republic or earlier. Hopefully this movie will be something more than just 'member berries. . .
Best time to be a LOTR fan. Great chat guys!
Would die to get Arwen and Aragorn’s full story on screen 😭
We already saw it. What do you think is missing?
@@christophermiller2133 all the things in the appendices of them would be amazing to see (even though it would be very sad as well!) I know they wouldn’t go back and film things from the timeline of the trilogy but I want them to release the scenes they filmed of Arwen and Aragorn meeting for the first time so badly! It drives me crazy that the footage is out there somewhere and we don’t have access to it 😂😭
Brandon Sanderson produced the Wheel of Time TV show. Very cautious optimism until we hear more!
No, he didn't. Rosamund Pike, the actress playing Moiraine is producer. Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan's widow were both "consulting producers", which is a nothingness title that just meant they got to voice their opinions, but didn't actually have a say.
@@davidpo5517 That explains why she became the central character of the show...
@@kevinwells9751 yeah, I mean don't get me wrong, I really like her and her character, she is the perfect Moiraine, but if you've read the books...
@@davidpo5517 thanks! Didn’t know that. Cheers.
Oof. You just triggered me by mentioning WOT. Read the entire series in high school until RJ died and thought that the best way to adapt the enormity of the world, characters, and lore could only be done justice with a TV series but one with a budget beyond anything that TV had access to at that time. Flash forward to old man late twenties me learning that Amazon was going to dump money on what my teenage self wanted. Flash forward to watching the series: utterly terrible. A case of changing literally everything in the books to diminished dramatic impact and causing a cascading effect that will result in the rest of the adaptation having no resemblance to the series I loved in later seasons.
I wonder if the film opens with an older Aragorn as King when he is meeting Sam and his family and he is telling that portion of the story for the red book and we can get Sean Aston back as well.
And the 'story telling' event took place at the border of the Shire inside the King's tent.
There will be no Silmarillion made, I'm sure. Although I'd love to see it. Beren and Luthien alone would be incredible
A relatively small-scale story, set in between 2 trilogies and closer chronologically to the last trilogy, themed around the main characters looking for information that helps the characters in the trilogy … is this Lord of the Rings’ Rogue One?
And in case they talk about this in the stream, I haven’t finished watching yet 😅
this is the Best News now i can forget about ROP
This is the best news I can remember in years.
Peter and the team are BACK!!!!. This... is FANTASTIC 😁😁😁😁😁!!!
...but it better not be WOKE.
I don't know why people get so worried about this. By the time the movie comes out, you're going to be so primed to detect "woke" stuff where it doesn't even exist-punching at shadows.
The Hunt for Golem spins perfectly into Mirkwood and hopefully The Wars in the North!!!
There are a lot of good stories throughout the simirillion. For the love of tolkien, can we just get something worthy from those tales?!
We can't because the Silmarillion and other First Age tales are owned by the Tolkien Estate. They're not going to sell them. At least not anytime soon.

I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I really do think they should use de-ageing technology. It’s not worth omitting the opportunity to have these actors back on screen together one last time. I think WETA can get it right. Getting the whole cast de-aged flawlessly would be a HUGE milestone for cinema history
no Im sick of fake crap let things be real for once
Cautiously excited but I was no fan of the Hobbit films they were a million miles away from the quality of LOTR trilogy but this news is super exciting and if he keeps Middle Earth as how it was originally in LOTR and not the saturated with CGI Hobbit I'm looking forward to it
If there will be recasts, I'd like to see the wizards to be Rhys Ifans as Gandalf, Adrien Brody as Saruman.
I would be interested in a movie about the dwarves of Erebor and the men of Dale during The War of The Ring. Or perhaps a story about the Haradrim?
Please don't bring the former actors and leave Howard Shore alone; bring a new score. I would love to see something truly new! Andy Serkis is the best person for this.
Since the Nazgul were able to sense when Frodo put on the ring and even the direction of the wearer, could the elven/dwarven ring-bearers sense the wearer of the One (i.e. Gollum whenever he put it on over the 500 years he possessed it)? Also, the elvish bearers could sense when Sauron put on the One. Then they removed their rings.
I'm sort of excited and sort of afraid. I would be so sad if this went wrong
OMG!!!! What took you sooo long🤩🥰
Is there much more of Gollum that wasnt talked about or shown in LOTR and TH?
Yes on the cameo.
We all want more. I want a new series about Arya Stark as she sails off to new adventures in new lands. Her character is strong enough to support it. But sometimes you just have to let go and appreciate that you got the treat you did. It can't get better. It can only get worse IMO.
I would love to see a movie that follows Glorfindel!
Thanks!
The fellowship was his pinnacle, (similar to Lucas with episode IV) Every film after that got just slightly worse than the one before until Battle of the 5 armies which was really poor. If he does another with all the pressures and Hollywood attitudes around him it will be rubbish. He needs to go back to how he was at the start
This may be unpopular but WHYYYYY ALL THIS MEDIA ABOUT GOLLUM? there's an entire legendarium filled with some of the best mythology ever penned and they're gonna continue to make movies and games about a character that already got more screen time than Bilbo.... why? I love Andy Serkis, but this is going to be another big CGI movie that milks a franchise that deserves more respect.
Hunt for Gollum makes sense, since the actors that play the characters needed are still alive.
The question is if they will return though. Sir Ian McKellen in particular is really getting on in years now, and Viggo is not very interested in major blockbuster roles anymore. Just because he's had a couple these past years doesn't mean he's going to be open to it.
