I remember once I had someone ask me for $20-$40 because she needed food for her kids. Then a week later she slipped up and told me that two days before requesting the money she and her daughters had gone to Longhorn…. Needless to say the was the LAST time I gave her cash. A big bag a rice, onions, bell peppers, fresh spinach, beans, carton of eggs, oatmeal, big box of Bisquick (biscuits, waffles, pancakes, etc.). That’s what I would buy for a mother with kids. Nothing frozen - she has to create & cook.

My grandmother was born on a farm during the Great Depression. She advocated for home cooked food so hard it felt like blasphemy when she suggested it.
