In my opinion to understand Trump, the key is to think how he run his businesses. Saying Tik Tok is worthless without a permit he is actually saying, well the US wants a bribe, we will withhold the permit until we get some money back from this. I guess we are not used to the government to act like a gangster out in the open, but now we know.

I made sure to download this video before it gets removed (I'm only half-kidding), before I was even done listening to the podcast. It was also funny how the NYT feed's description for this episode makes no mention of the Stargate section buried in the TikTok segment. That seemed like the most important part of the show. Still, I'm impressed that Kevin and Casey spoke so freely after the Oracle ad that directly preceded the episode. :) Great show.

@@kyber1fun164 They might now, given what they said about Ellison and Oracle.

I am looking forward to reading Chris’s book. I do think however that Attention is perhaps too broad a topic for what the discussion is really about. It’s like discussing the problem with drugs and including all medicinal drugs, not the abuse of addictive drugs. The real problem with Attention is The Feed. And, btw, The Feed or The Algorithm, as it is spoken of in TikTok parlance, is one of the first of techs uses of AI. In the early 2000s if you pitched a software product the first thing the VCs asked was: “Where is the feed?”. And it is both addictive and not only used to sell you stuff, but to tailor your opinions.

Which tech CEO do you think will grovel the hardest these next couple years?

Zuck has set the bar high. His lead might be insurmountable.

But are they grovelling? That's just our interpretation. One opinion I heard and tend to agree with is that the Tech Bro faction felt they were unjustly blamed for the rise of Trvmp, Biden admin doubled down on this, so they so no reason to go with a party and admin which did not praise them at all. Not grovelling at all. I bet they feel like they've embraced their destiny. Certainly, feels like the sky is the limit, there's all kinds of tech protections being removed. The question though is who can control who? I can see all kinds of back doors being introduced into gov systems.
Edward Snowden must be stumped about what he gave his whole life up for (remember him??)

16:30 , I feel like I haven’t heard this aspect discussed often! It absolutely feels like a chess piece in a large game of assessing each others temperaments

Such a disappointment. If there was ever a time for Silicon Valley to example the better angels of our nature, this was it. Not to say they should be adversarial, but have some maturity about the responsibility of power. I hope they come around eventually and find their dignity.

Are these crypto rug pull schemes legal?
I imagine there are rules and regulations against that sort of behavior in the stock market, but because its crypto, they can get away with it?
