- गोरखपुर #Uttarpradesh की सबसे चर्चित विधानसभा सीटों में से एक है. यहां स्थित गोरखनाथ मठ आस्था का प्रतीक माना जाता है. #YogiAdityanath ने यहां अपने जीवन के 25 साल गुजारे हैं. यहीं रहते हुए उन्होंने पांच बार सांसद का चुनाव जीता और साल 2017 में उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री चुने गए.
ऐसा माना जाता है यूपी में दो पॉवर सेंटर हैं- एक गोरखनाथ मठ और दूसरा तिवारी हाता (हरिशंकर तिवारी के आवास को गोरखपुर में हाता के नाम से जाना जाता है). चिल्लूपार विधानसभा का सियासी समीकरण एक राजनीतिक परिवार के हाते से शुरू होकर वहीं समाप्त हो जाता है. यह सीट हमेशा से ब्राह्मण वर्चस्व की रही है. इस क्षेत्र से उत्तर प्रदेश के पंडित हरिशंकर तिवारी जैसे बाहुबली आते रहे हैं. वर्ष 1985 में हरिशंकर तिवारी ने इस विधानसभा सीट से चुनाव लड़ा और तब से चिल्लूपार की सत्ता उनके परिवार के हाथों में ही है.
पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश में ब्राह्मण मतदाता, सियासी माहौल बनाने या बिगाड़ने का माद्दा रखते हैं. फिर चाहे समाजवादी पार्टी हो, बसपा, कांग्रेस या सत्तारूढ़ भाजपा सभी ने ब्राह्मणों को लुभाने की जीतोड़ कोशिश की है.
