    Do you have to do the setup all over again each time you unplug the smart plug? I wanted to set it up and then move it to another plugin. ??

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. You don't. Once you set up your plug and name it in your app, it keeps the wifi connection and name of your plug regardless of what outlet you take it from and put it into. If you are using voice commands with Google or Alexa, you will just say the same name of the plug to turn on and off.

    Thanks a lot for your time 👍

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY

      Not that I can remember. What I saw was one device could have a schedule and a schedule could impact multiple devices, I don't remember if one device could have multiple schedules 🤔. I honestly moved to kasa home plugs because they were a lot easier to connect to and control.

    colton, can i use this for a space heater? for instance, can i turn it on and then set the temperature and time?

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sean! Yes you can! If you open up your Wemo app (assuming you have it previously installed and setup), go to the calendar looking button called "rules". Here you can set an auto off schedule so you don't have to use your app or Google assistant for commands. Once you set that up, plug in space heater into that wemo and you should be good. I would test it first before you rely on it turning itself off a long time later.

    • @vdealerpdx
      @vdealerpdx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are probably better off using the plug for a space heater… simply put it in a fire pit, light it on fire and enjoy the heat produced. Probably your best bet for this product!

    • @jakobporterz3211
      @jakobporterz3211 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would absolutely not recommend using it on a spacer heater. It draws to much amps. It may heat up the relay inside the Wemo devices.

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's fair. I'm thinking space heater usage while everyone is awake and aware of it and only for a couple hours. I wouldn't recommend leaving on a space heater unattended or overnight while you sleep.

  • @k3p205

    Does using this only allow you enough space for one receptacle use? I was hoping to have both outlets from the same receptacle on this device?

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question K 3 P! So you have have 2 Wemos plugged into your standard outlet which would allow you to have 2 smart plugs. These are bulky for a "mini" but they were smart in making sure it doesn't take up the whole outlet for just 1 smart plug.

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Courtney! Sorry that's super frustrating. A couple things you can do that will make it easy to start to have that control again after your move. Go into your Wemo app and change your Wi-Fi settings to be your new Wi-Fi. Sometimes smart home things really make sure to remember old settings so when something new comes like a move or new phone or something there can be issues. Another option is just do a factory reset. Because the Wemo process is pretty quick and easy, doing a factory reset is sometimes the better route because it guarantees a more flawless experience after moving and having a new Wi-Fi setup.

    Possibly a dumb question, but can you use google voice commands without a google home device? I have google assistant on my phone and have used it to write texts and start my vacuum, but can I use it to activate this plug as you did in this video?

    • @ColtonCrumpDIY
      @ColtonCrumpDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ryan! I'm 95% sure you can. As long as you have a device that has Google assistant on it and the Google home app, you should be able to connect that device to your Google Home app then use Google assistant from your phone to do the things you want with your voice. I personally don't have experience setting it up this way as I have a couple Google Home devices. Try it out and let me know what happens. I'm interested.

    I’m trying to connect the 1st gen WeMo and it keeps asking me for the HomeKit code, which my WeMo doesn’t have. In order to retrieve the HomeKit code, I need to retrieve it from the app after I connect it. But I can’t connect it until I put in the HomeKit code. 🤦‍♀️

      Boo! Lame, I'm sorry Adrienne. So for an experienced solve for this, I don't know because I don't have an Apple phone nor a 1st gen wemo. Have you tried factory resetting? Everything I am reading says that a first gen wemo should setup easily without needing the code... but if you're seeing something different then I'd suggest contacting support: www.belkin.com/us/support-article?articleNum=278428
