You guys need to put the crucifix down in the ghost's home room BEFORE a hunt starts. When it tries to spawn, it will check for a crucifix within a 3m radius. If there is one already down, it will stop the hunt and use one of the two charges a crucifix has.
Isn't provoking the ghost required to "witness a ghost event", trigger the EMF reader, and cause ghost orbs to appear? Of course, it's better to provoke it gently, rather than just chanting its name over and over again, lol.

Hearing them shouting ghosts' names through walls or their distant death cries or even, most horrifyingly, Cold Play lyrics is one of the best things about this game, I love it! I also love how Bouphe's first question to a ghost was about The Room.

Crucifix only works when you put it on the floor of the ghost's "room" before it starts to hunt (when your lights start flashing) it's meant to prevent a hunt and only has 2 charges so be aware of how much taunting you've done.
When your flashlight flickers, turn it off and hide by either going in a closet/locker or crouching in a corner. One of the ghosts will stop a hunt when in the light. Only some ghosts will make dirty water in the sink. Also regarding sanity, it takes the average of the groups sanity. The lower the sanity, the higher the chance of a hunt. Also opt into the beta on Steam. A lot of bugs are fixed.
