I’m new to this channel. I binge book tube, but I’ve never had anyone’s presentation be so engaging that I was convinced to read every single book recommended…until now. My Christmas book list has just gotten 10 books longer.
I'm so here for all the creators who love Fredrik Backman. He's arguably my favorite author ever. Love him so much and I love that you've found him and are enjoying his work!
I have not heard ANYONE talk about The Push and I am dying!!!! I LOVED this book. Hands down favorite book of the year! I cannot believe it was her debut. I will be reading every single book she puts out from now on!
I’ve reread Anxious People a few times and every time I’m so stunned with how well written it is! I just love Fredrik Backman’s writing style so freaking much 🖤
Right!?!? I still think the Beartown series is my favorite of his, followed by A Man Called Ove, but I loved Anxious People and ugly cried during And Every Morning...
Did I just tear up while you were describing Anxious People - yes! I LOVE that book so much! It was my favorite book of 2020 and I need to reread it next year. 💛 This year I believe my top spot is going to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (I don’t see anything dethroning it in these last few days) 💚
I thought PLAIN BAD HEROINES was gonna make it to your top 3 😲 My top: 1- Project Hail Mary, 2- Anxious people, 3- Malibu Rising, 4- The Final Girl Support Group, 5- The last thing he told me, 6- The Maidens 7- Under the whispering door 8- As Good As Dead 9- To Sleep in a sea of stars 10- Near the bone 11- For your own good 12- The Mary Shelley club (I'm sure I'm forgetting some, lots of 5 stars this year 😁)
Honestly, I was curious about Anxious People and wasn’t sure if I wanted to read it….then you read that line from the book and I am sold, that is going on my list for books to buy next. Thank you for that final push 😊
There is just something unique and wonderful about Backman's "voice" as an author. Somehow he manages to be funny and charming and heartbreaking and "real" all at the same time.
We're have you been lol. Love your witty, fun energy it's everything! You had me glued to this video from begging to end. New here and love it. The books sound amazing.
I read And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer And Longer last night in one sitting. It was amazing! I cried so much….I should say sobbed. Wow! Thought of my Grandsons the whole time. I wasn’t a fan of Yolk. I have Every Heart a Doorway on my list. That one looks really good! Nice list!
Before I say anything else, praise to the transltors of Backman! I read it in Croatian and it is still as funny, emotional and thrilling as if I was reading the original. I really wish I could read in Sweedish, but the amazing translations will have to do. Now, Anxious People is what I need all day everyday. It's like a pat on the back saying you are doing good, don't worry. Even just hearing the quote you read, tears fell. He gets to me like no one else.
I read the push as well!! So good!! And I read and every morning the way home gets longer and longer however, I didn’t sob like you did. I feel that book is more meaningful to someone who has a more personal experience with Alzheimer’s
I started reading every morning the way home… and had to take a break because I was sobbing. I was in the process of losing my grandmother and I could NOT but want to come back to it.
Beartown was the first Fredrik Backman book I read, and I've been in love with his books ever since. If you haven't already read them, I recommend Beartown and its sequel, Us Against Them, and also A Man Called Ove. All 3 books are wonderful. Also, kudos to his translators! Because they're not always the same person, but each book still feels uniquely Backman. Makes me wonder how involved he is in the translations??
My top fiction book of the year was "This is How You Lose the Time War", my top nonfiction was "The Anthropocene Reviewed". Literally cannot say enough good things about either of them.
My mother has Alzheimer's, the disease which I probably carry the genes for. She doesn't remember my name anymore. 'And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer' hit me hard. Thanks for recommending.
Listening to the first two or three of books of The Wayward Children's Children by Seanan McGuire. Loved Jack's and her sisters story in Down Among The Sticks And Bones.
One of my favorite books of the year was Dreams of the Dying by Nicolas Lietzau. I really think you’d like it. Great mix of horror fantasy and some good representation and conversation of mental health
Can you read empire of the vampire and do a vlog? I’m not sure if I want to pick it up I can’t wait to see your opinion on it and you have said that you love vampires!
I was having a shitty day and I opened TH-cam and as soon as I saw that Katie's uploaded a video I was clapping my hands like a dum child. Love you soooo much 💖💗
I finished reading Dowry of Blood today and loved it but I think a better description for it would be wifes and husbands of Dracula because he definitely wasn’t straight in the book lol
I thought you would have picked Ace of Spades as one of the best books this year. Your review is what made me read it, and I loved it so much. It was such a great story and I was hooked from the first page.
Here's my list of favorite books of this year 1. Crescent city 2. In the ravenous dark by a.m Strickland 3. Best served cold by Joe Abercrombie 4. Wizard and glass by Stephen king 5. The wastelands 6. The kiss quotient by helen Hoang 7. The comeback by ella berman 8. A little hatred 9. Legendborn 10. The trouble with peace
Katie. I dead ass knew it was going to be A Dowry of Blood. I am too in tune with your reading preferences. I am OBSESSED with you and your content and I need you to be my real life friend??? I’m coming off to strong aren’t I? 😂
Been meaning to ask you - have you read We Need To Talk About Kevin? I haven’t read The Push yet but it has the same kinda trope and it was one of my favourite books for a long long time (before I started reading so much)
Just hearing you describe Fredrick Backman’s book made me tear up cause it made me think of my Grandpa that I lost over 10 years ago but it still hurts 😭
My top 10 books read in 2021: #10 - Two For the Dough (Janet Evanovich). I'm lovin' Miss Stephanie Plum, Jersey Girl Bounty Hunter. #9 - The Word is Murder (Anthony Horowitz). The author and a very non-PC detective solve a murder. Hilarious! #8 - Etymologicon (Mark Forsyth). I love a good book about words and their meanings. All the better if there is plenty of dry British wit liberally sprinkled in. #7 - 'Salem's Lot (Stephen King). First time read. #6 - Warbreaker (Brandon Sanderson). Also first time read and first time for this author. Great book! #5 - Pines (Blake Crouch). Read the entire trilogy this year. Will be diving into more of his back catalog next year. #4 - A Cold Day For Murder (Dana Stabenow). This series about an Alaskan PI (Kate Shugak) was recommended to me and I am eating it up. Since April, read the first 6 books in the series. #3 - Dracula (Bram Stoker). First time read. So well written and a really exciting story. Did not disappoint in the least. (Much better than Shelley's Frankenstein IMHO.) #2 - A Simple Plan (Scott Smith). Saw the movie years ago and have never been able to forget it. Finally picked up the book and it scared me half to death. #1 - Dune (Frank Herbert). First time read. Saw the movie and then devoured the book in less than a week. Thought it would be a "one and done", but now I'm planning on picking up some of the sequels next year.
I read No Exit in 2021 as well and omg that book gave me SO MUCH anxiety 😳 but I loved it! And I'm so glad you read The Nightingale! I read it in 2020 and cried like a baby, Kristin Hannah is a phenomenal writer. I really wanna read that book by Fedrik Backman but I know it's gonna destroy me because my dad has Dementia. 💜🥺
Honestly, if for nothing else, I watch Katie's videos for the commentary; the chaotic, witty energy we all need.
🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I agree!! It’s like sitting with a good friend!!!
:/

Did I just tear up while you were describing Anxious People - yes! I LOVE that book so much!
