I was deciding between these two about a week ago and in the end bought the fenix 6 pro solar. I think if I was looking 4-5 years ago I would have got the instinct but I think the fenix fits more my life style at the moment.
Based on this review, I'm leaning towards Instinct Solar because of its battery life, the surface of the watch protected by the raised bezel and the more rugged look. Ok, the price difference also helps my decision haha. I already have my dress, analog watch, if I want to have more smart look so I can save some money in buying the smartwatch with solar power hehe.
As a female who has been waiting for smartwatches to not look massive, I can attest that the 6S (pro) looks very good on my wrist. It’s very neutral as well, so if a man wants a more normal size watch compared to typical wristwatches, the 6S is a great alternative. The only downside is you give up a chunk of battery life, but it is still a week before needing to be charged.
Great review. I used 5x for a while and now use 6X. My experience is the weight rep counting and pool swim doesn't work so well. Other than those issues I have been very happy with Fenix watches. I use it mainly for running. I like it for daily wear as well as you mentioned.
I do not know if it is interesting but in my few an update with the fenix 7/8 and the instinct 2X solar would be a good idea. In my view as an Instinct owner, if you load your route and you are able to follow, the insinct is good. If the trail is blocked or have to change the route it gets difficult because the bread krums are not longer there 😂 you can track back or go back in straight line but in case of a thru-hike it will get difficult.

But... that can be said about every single product on Earth... I have great $40 D2 knives that cut like a razor and work fantastic... why do I need a $400 knife that does the same exact thing? But I'd really enjoy that Fenix if I got it for free! Thanks!
I think you've sold me on the Fenix. I love that maps can be loaded and used with great accuracy on a phone but I hate having to pull out on my phone often on new trails. I've started hiking and adventuring enough that the extra $$$$ feels worth it.

Hey Justin. Great overview. I'd love to see a video describing how you used the Fenix for your GDT thru hike. What modes and settings did you use? How did you optimize battery life? Did you set up maps (courses) for each of your planned legs? Tips? Cheers!
Will the Garmin connect software and or app run both watches at the same time? Are you able to retain multiple devices in the program and not have to delete one if you wear a different watch for different trips or activities and wear one for every day wear. Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for the overview/ perspective. I currently have an instinct tactical and I'm considering getting another watch like the Fenix Pro 6. Wasn't sure if I could wear a different watch and not have to delete one out of the software/ app.

I bought the Fenix 6S Sapphire and am hoping one day I'll be smarter than it is but right now that's not the case. I've been using it to understand its features and functions and there is something that mystifies me. I wonder if you would know the answer since you used yours on the GDT trip. How on earth do I sync an activity recorded on the Fenix to the Garmin Express app on my phone? I can sync the watch to Connect and then export .gpx and import to Explore but can only import as a track or route, not an activity. I thought that maybe you'd been doing daily syncs of the activities on the watch to the phone's Explore app and wondered if you have any insight. Thanks for reading all this.
Instinct 2 series is much cheaper in some markets now. Some bugs, but also some features, including HRV Status where I2 is the cheapest watch to have that feature. In some markets, or possibly if you look around. Prices should be around 250$ for the cheapest models.
The weight training capability is very intriguing. Counting reps and timing rest periods is very cool. Does this log onto a phone app as well? Using the s62 golf watch now. It’s great for running but nothing available for weight training
