Thanks for the video. Setting up a new tank (waterbox 60.2 still cycling at 34 days after adding ammonia and two bacteria sources🤦🏻‍♂️). Haven’t run a marine aquarium since around 2000-2005. One of the biggest pains I remember was dealing with aipastia. Looking forward to an update on your progress and glad to have some more ammo in that battle just in case! Great videos! Thanks for sharing!

Berghia work! Period! But they do need a constant food source, once they devour the demons they will die. I recently saw a video for growing them, and the aptaisia for a food source. His suggestion for the aptasia grow-out tank was to use large gravel only in this tank. The aptasia will cover the floor of the grow-out tank as they grow. Whenever you need some food for the berghia you can easily pick up a peice and drop it in the berghia tank. I think using live rock might make that job difficult. Cheers!

Also, I went to a local reefer who grows berghia and sells them locally, he grows his aptasia on a gravel sand bed as well. Food for thought.....

Instead of the large rocks, try putting some thick plastic netting in the tank (the ridged stuff) in a bit of zig zag, then put a bunch of large coral rubble or frag chips on top of the plastic. It gives you an easy way to transport the aiptasia over at feeding time and the netting lets you have way more frag/rubble surface exposed to grow aiptasia. To agitate you can just roll the rubble around on the netting to get them reproducing faster. Just remember to treat/dry out the rubble/frags before you put them back into the aiptasia grow tank or you will be starting again....

Plan B: Get Peppermint shrimp for half the cost that won't die out when the aiptasia are gone.... always worked for me. You won't have to set up an Aiptasia breeding operation just to keep 'em alive. This only makes sense if you're trying to breed to sell and cash in on the fad. How is this even a thing?

    • @austinjt4264

Peppermint is a hit & missed and most of times it's a miss than a hit.
There's is a way to make sure it's work.
Get 10-20pcs of PMS, then leave them in Tank Aipt and see which one eat aipt and pull it out (Make sure you pulled out the right one) or isolating them.
From my experience, if they don't eat aipt, they will touch aipt later on when you put them in DT, they will go for fish food instead.
And the one that eat Aipt, will always go for aipt...
Trick is to pick the one with a Aipt-fetish and best way to do it is to purchase a group of them and do a bit of experiment to see which one attack aipt.
But there is another fish... works better than Shrimp, work better than Nudi.... and they will go for Aipt on day 1 and finished a thousands of aipt within a few days to a week at most.
Down side is, they will attack any corals that have similar tentacle as Aipt like Brain Corals during feeding mode but they do leave Torch & elegance alone.
The thing is... they are easy to get out of the tank... with a lure/trap.

Is there any research or evidence about how these interact with actual anemone such as BTA. As I have had experience with a file fish that was said to only eat aptasia, and it ate my large bta as well as my zoas and acans.

I had a 50 gallon frag tank with a built-in filter on the back. I had a beautiful tank with a lot of corals . In the past I had saltwater aquariums but I was always afraid of corals so I just did fish. Then I took a break for about 5 or 6 years and my girlfriend bought me an aquarium for Christmas I said this time I'm going to do corals. And I had the tank now for about five or six years you know I've had my occasional problem. But works through them and nothing too major and I always heard really know where you get your corals from I figured the place I went to was pretty safe cuz I never had any problems. And one day I went to a new aquarium store in never been to I walked in there and he had almost nothing in their tanks but there was one Coral that I always wanted sitting there all by itself and I don't know this is a few hundred gallon frag tank big and all the way like 5 ft away there was oneaptation in a tank. And I said well it's so far away and there's only one in a tank it should be okay. Well that's the beginning of my problem and I was keeping it in check with aiptasia x blah blah blah now I have hundreds maybe thousands. I lost pretty much all my corals except for five or six and it they were really the ones that I truly like the most but there was a few that I really was upset about but I will build it back up again in time. How long and how many of the berghia nudibranch should I get to get rid of the aptasia and will it be permanently gone unless I accidentally introduced it again

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  ปีที่แล้ว

I would prob add 10 ish. They will breed and it will take a while but they will eventually win and clear it out. (Once you have an army of bergia you can prob trade them for new coral :) )

I've heard you need to be careful with the eggs. I have a bunch of eggs right now but I'm quarantining my aptasia first because I heard pods can eat the eggs. I have some small rocks i would love to put in but dont want to chance it. I just find aptasia in my sump and scrape them off the glass and transfer them from cup to cup a few time to avoid any sort of pods.

    Hey Dev,
How are you getting along with culturing the aiptasia?
I've just seen four small aiptasia pop up in my tank, so I think i'm going to put them in a dedicated tank to let them grow and spread out as I'd love to have a little Nudi farm going!
Are the aiptasia spreading quick enough to maintain the nudi population?
