It’s about how small increases in speed can make large differences at the point of impact. Speed at 35 instead of 30 means hitting someone at 18mph under the same conditions.
Misleading. The driver had "cruise control" to maintain the specified speed. Perform the same test without cruise control , so that the driver has to keep taking his eyes off of the road to check the speedo and compare that result with one in which the driver has his eyes on the road the whole time, but slightly exceeds the speed limit.
Very informative video but it’s obvious the faster you drive the earlier you have to hit the brake to allow the vehicle to stop at a safe distance. Thank you
What experiments fail to test is the that the TYPE of vehicle you drive is possibly a BIGGER factor than your speed. if you're doing thirty and some jumps right in front of you, you're gonna hit them. Guaranteed. Difference is, a 4x4 that coppers drive with kill them but my Vespa won't. The cops could easily do away with all us moaners abolishing fines as the points alone are what really hurt. So why don't they??
The point is that even if you had f1 brakes, small increases in speed like 2mph is not 2mph to the end of your stopping distance. It’s more like 10 mph. When you go 10 mph more, it’s 26 mph to the end of your best stopping distance.
I was given this link when attending an online speed awareness course, after being flashed on camera along M25 J10 to J11 at 86mph. Though I agree the faster we drive the longer it takes to stop. ….but I do believe we HAVE to drive too flippin slowly. (Unless you are the police and hide behind your warrant card) Our roads could be made far safer. ….but they want to raise revenue. Anyway my driving speeds haven’t changed one bit. I stick my fingers up to the police for being so anal and the inventor of the gatso for being such a tosser

Not at all. Updated discs and pads stop quicker. Plus he had cones showing where to brake. You don't get that on the real roads
