Epic lost to Apple, so it's unlikely the App Store will be opened. And I don't think Apple is a monopoly. You see people already have a choice, if they want a more open ecosystem, they can choose Android for that. That's why Epic lost to Apple since people already have choices, Apple doesn't force people to use their products, it's by choice.

No one person or company should have as much power as google has PERIOD. Don't just focus on the pros but also really consider the many cons to having google essentially own our phones through apps and play store where we get apps.
It should never have been allowed to have google monopolize the system like this. Most people won't even replace the google browser to a more secure browser. Just because its google they automatically trust the brand because they think its the best.
In my opinion, those companies who just charged money for thing Google provides for FREE are more at fault than Google. Google could NEVER become this large if others competitors also provided some of their services for free.

Increasingly they are taking market share as consumers become more savvy about the possible privacy risks associated with Google search, however, many may not care about privacy risks over perceived convenience using Google search. Well, Google has to pay for maintenance of Servers, and it is not cheep, and still it is no way close to 30% of a developer's income!.
it is primarily not about charging 30% but to allow competetors. Let there be many app stores and let users choose most suitable for them.
Apple charges 30% Google charges 15%.
Open source Android platform, the regulatory body should force to have 3-5 different App stores. That way competition should be built-in to start with. 😊😊

in my opinion, App stores are gateway for whats downloaded on the phones and the makers needs to have some control over the apps that are being downloaded, mainly to protect from exploiting vulnerabilities in the OS with viruses and malware and to protect the user data from rogue apps. If there is no control , rogue apps can infest the mobile ecosystem and make it unsafe for the users, but there are always 2 sides to this argument and its to weight what's more important.
So how about apple and apple app store?

People criticise apple for it’s app store but because the app store is so well monitored our phones are secure. They need to make them reduce their cut but removing security by making it open is a stupid move. Not all developers have a good faith. Hackers are also developers only.

Apple should have been there, not google. On android, we can already use our phone we want to (install apps from outside Playstore), its apple that is the biggest problem, so when will similar judgement be passed against apple ?
Apple already won the case against Epic games. Also, Apple has agreed to use a third-party app store in EU while Android 15 has features that prevents users to install any app outside Play Store. So, the scenario is Apple is opening its Ecosystem well at least in the EU, on the other hand Google is developing a closed Ecosystem.

This is great news, but here's a question both the OS Android and the Appstore belongs to Google. Isn't it their wish what they do with it. It's like saying it's your house but you should let each bedroom have it's own entrance door to the outside of the house for every tenant living in it separately. One main entrance is not enough, how can you control entry and exit into the house like that just because it's your house. What do you think guys?

Epic Games is one hell of a fighter not many years ago it went against apple in court as apple banned FORTNITE from their devices and even made a cutscene ingame encouraging players of the game to be with them in the fight u can check the cutscene in youtube also and now its going against google lol.

i have never seen anyone saying other companies need indian CEOs and sundar pichai didn't create playstore or the 30 percent commission , in fact his major contribution to the company was thinking of and leading the creation of chrome at a time when microsoft and firefox totally dominated the browser market. and he just did what any capitalist company does , maximise its profits , its the governments job to keep them in check and i applaud the us judicial system for this judgement .

It's funny how sometimes news reporters and readers have no clue as to what they are talking about. You have no idea about the number of bad actors and malicious app developers out there. If it wasn't for Google's "RULES", 90% of the smartphones would be under the control of hackers and scammers. So even if they open up other App stores, I hope people still download stuff from Play Store only.. for their own safety. Careful what you wish for, Palki!

All the non gamers dont know what a scam epic games is, ill tell you noobs about it. All products you purchase on epic games will run on their client (server in china) which means you dont actually own the game. You play it through a client, unlike Steam.

If the devs designed the game to be totally offline then you can play them offline with the only condition requiring you to be logged into your account. Epic Games Store is only publisher/distributor of games.
