  • Mogambo is a 74 metre yacht built in Germany in 2012 and is a charter yacht. This means if you have the money you can 'hire' the yacht for a week. Find out how much it will cost you for a week!

    Charter price for a yacht includes the yacht and crew. That's all. Expenses include, but are not limitedk to, food, fuel, port fees, mooring/anchorage/marina fees and such.

    M/Y Savarona was £50000 a day back in 2006, not including fuel, so $700000 a week.
    Mind you, she's almost twice the length of this yacht.

    I've heard 'expenses' are usually 10% of the hire cost, and that's mostly your petrol, and I also think the cost for staying in port, etc, which isn' included, afaik.

    $600K/w is well over double the purchase and running costs for a boat this size - meaning that if the boat is chartered for about 26 weeks/y the owner can use it free for 26 weeks. This is how the rich stay rich even though they spend money.

    • @khufu8699
      @khufu8699 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      However typically you can get 12-16 weeks per year. At this size and price, probably less as the market is thinner the higher the weekly price. Most owners get cost offset, not full recovery of the running cost.

    Check with the brokers - "Plus Expenses" means all Fuel, Dockage, and frankly about anything that goes into the GA (Guest Accommodation). Strictly speaking, the listed rate includes the boat, in its own marina for one week (in most cases, Wednesday at noon to same of the next week), with crew and all provisions for same. Virtually anything beyond this, will be considered "chargeable", and this typically raises cost by about 1.25 to 1.5 times the listed value. Geoff Rohde

    curious to know the running cost on a used older yacht. the 10% rule I assume is based on new purchase price. U see some relatively cheap larger older yachts, I am guessing they are cheap because you are buying into the upkeep, plus as yachts get older more work/refits will be necessary to keep ahead of the curve.

    • @YachtReport

    • @khufu8699
      @khufu8699 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes. Expenses is everything that is not boat and crew. The "fixed" cost is the boat and the crew. That is what the owner gets to cover his cost and provide a profit. The food, fuel, docking, damages, etc are all "variable" costs that can change depending what the customer wants and those are direct pass through cost to the customer; just like hotel expenses are. It is basically a floating hotel. This way the owner gets covered to run the week, no matter what the customer wants to eat or how much gas they want to burn.

    You can save a bit on your yearly costs. Use paper plates at all meals. Fire all the crew except the cast. He can cook and change sheets and do laundry. The boat has an auto pilot anyway so all he has to do is get it in and out of port. Leaves him plenty of time to do the rest of his chores.

      There are 540 billionaires in the US. At a 7% return, someone worth 3 billion is making 210 million a year. Billionaires tend to be workaholics so they might only take a week long vacation once a year, so spending 600k for an ultra exclusive fantastic vacation might make sense in that position. I'm not a billionaire but my favorite family vacations have been where we've chartered crewed catamarans, but even if I was a billionaire I'd have a hard time seeing the value in spending 600K when you can charter nice 8 guest yachts for $40-60K.

    At the 3:57 mark you speak of the internet dome and how unless it is blocked by a man made object of some kind there should be continuous coverage. Does it, generally speaking, cost more to use the internet on boats like this vs. say a cruise line? I suspect, just my own intuition, that internet service is almost pure profit for the cruise lines.

    • @donbeckham
      @donbeckham 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Come on dude... that boat is at Pier Sixty-Six Marina, literally ONE MILE from Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, which is Class B Airspace. You are a prime example why governments are cracking down on drone flights. People like you don't know about class B airspace. It is all the way to the ground at that distance from the airport, and you absolutely have to call the tower to let them know where you will be be flying, what time, and your maximum altitude. Do you realize that you were only 5000ft from the landing pattern for runway 28R?? Your only "saving grace" is that you not were flying much higher then the bridge. Incredibly irresponsible and even more irresponsible to propagate false information.
      You say you're an engineer on a yacht yet your knowledge is severely flawed. You have no idea how each antenna has been provisioned unless you worked on this boat. The reason you typically see 2 antenna for TV is NOT because the mast gets in the way, but rather because DirectTV/Dish/Sky use multiple sats for their channel lineup. So, if there are 2 or more receivers tuned to different channels that come from different sats, there will be no interruption of service on any of the receivers. If I were a betting man, I would say that the top antenna is inmarsat for communications, which is a hell of lot more important than "internet". Although inmarsat does provide internet too, al beit slow by today's standards. I'm betting two of the four antennas on top are for the new O3B satellite constellation (ultra high speed internet 100+Mbs). But then again, I'm guessing, just like you. I've seen owners on smaller boats install an empty dome on one side because they didn't want to spend the extra $25-50K for the antenna, but still want everything to look symmetrical. The O3b network requires 2 antennas because the sats are not in Geo-stationary orbit, so each antenna tracks a different sat in a tag team effort as they sweep across the sky. Confused about, "plus expenses"? Food and beverage are hardly ever included in a charter price because if a guest is spending 600K for a week, you can bet they are not eating bologna sandwich and drinking box wine. Those guests write their own menu and decide how much they want to spend food and drink. They may want $1000 bottles of wine, caviar and lobster, and you can bet the owner is not paying for that out of the 600K. Fuel is negotiable depending on how they intend to use the boat. Usually, local cruises are included, but a week long re-positioning cruise will likely involve a fuel surcharge.
      Also, don't you find it interesting how this "$100 million" dollar yacht has dry stack exhaust, something you said they don't do anymore.
      You really should stop representing yourself as an authoritative answer on this topic and just stick to making entertaining videos about pretty boats, which you seem to be good at. People will believe your BS, and that's a shame.

    • @YachtReport
      @YachtReport  6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Don Beckham I believe the original question was about restrictions of accessing the yachts, not about UAV operating instructions. In that case there are no restrictions. Yes within 5 miles you need to tell the tower. If I got in the way of an aircraft at that height then that aircraft would be in serious problems already. As for your antenna info, I’m afraid you are the one who is incorrect. Of course I can’t be sure what each antenna is for but I can give info based on my own experience. The top dome is 100% for Internet. No boat of this size would give up that space for an Inmarsat dome. If you look at the aerial footage you will see a smaller dome right in front of the top dome. That is the Inmarsat dome. Now TV domes can be used to point at different satellites depending on their positions and clearance from obstructions. But generally in my experience the domes are run in pairs with some sort of redundancy switch to change between them on blockage of which those rear domes would get from the mast. When I was talking about the domes I hadn’t yet flown the drone so I hadn’t seen the forward domes so I didn’t mention them. I already originally talked about how they can be used to point at different satellites but it was too long so I edited it out. In reference to Inmarsat being more important, well it’s rarely used, and only usually used as a last resort when the Ku band or C band (if you have it) has failed. Also for emergencies by OOW etc. I don’t believe any boat would use four antennas just for internet, I’ve never seen that on many boats I’ve worked on. In your theory how are they getting TV? O3B uses low orbit satellites on Ka band which is not very reliable and no boats that I’ve seen use it, or at least they have hybrid antennas that can switch because it’s easily susceptible to interference from weather. So yes when I’m talking antennas there is always some guess work involved but based on long experience (I’ve installed antennas in yards). I don’t believe I was being emphatic about any of the info. As for expenses, I’ve never worked on a charter boat so I don’t know the details. Hence me reading from their website. I don’t claim to be an expert on everything I talk about and will make point when I talk about a subject that’s not my department. As for exhausts, I believe I said not all yachts but some.

    All these 'superyachts' look so alike, it is boring as hell. The most idiotic thing is that they all look like they will go 500 km/h or 300 mph but don't get above 20 knots. The slow speeds mean boats can take on any form. If that is true, then let them, get creative. Or make one that is exactly like you want to be when on sea, or that impresses when you bought one to impress. All these, like this one, don't impress at all.

      Right, ocean liners were for travelling A to B. There was no international flights in those days so speed was important. QM2 was built as an ocean liner to replace QE2 for tradition I think. QM2 can do 30 knots. The QE2 which was built in 1969 could do 34knots.
