Lin has carved out her own career as an actress over the years. You probably have also seen her in There's Something About Mary and Kingpin, along with the Insidious films.
This is my third favorite Elm Street film of the franchise! Love the entire franchise. It's not only my #1 favorite horror franchise but my second favorite Hollywood franchise.
@@elliottbullockii3282 Great franchise. I don't exactly have a favourite. Ehh the Freddy and Jason movies come to mind. Love the James Bond movies too.
I remember when this movie came out and the talk about how meta it was. I think it was ahead of it’s time. A movie like this comes out today, maybe it doesn’t get talked about but for early 90s, pretty revolutionary. It’s even more interesting to see that We Craven would in couple years direct the super meta Scream.
I actually think this is way more “meta” than Scream. The meta aspects of Scream are just the characters vaguely knowing about slasher tropes and it doesn’t factor much into the movie outside of teases regarding who the killer is.
I think this movie could exist without the original, in a sense. You could have the plot of the movie being that there was this movie series, etc., with no changes to the movie even if the actual series didn't exist. It truly stands on its own. It's also an important commentary about how fairy tales are used by children to exorcise their fears.
There is a fan film in production called Dylan's New Nightmare. It's a direct sequel to this following and adult Dylan played by Miko Hughes who plays him in this movie. This is my favorite Nightmare movie so I'm excited for the fan film.
34:00 Speaking of call backs, yeah there was the hall pass & Julie's death. There was also the squishy stairs too, remember? They really went back to basics on this one, but made it a lot darker. It's really good.
This may be my favorite one. It avoided some of the grossness of the others and relied on a lot of tension for the scares. Dylan is also Gage in Pet Sematary. He was a horror veteran by the time this came out.
@@jasonvoorhees310 At least those pesky teenagers (Who look suspiciously like they are in their mid 20's) aren't coming to Crystal Lake, disturbing you in your run down shack.
I LOVED this one. I didn't know what "meta" was until this movie. This scared me more than the others because it came into the "real world". Just a good idea altogether.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. Of all the Nightmare on Elm St movies, this is my favorite one! In my opinion it's even better than the first one. And it was great to see the actors from the first together again, no matter how briefly.
I remember this one . Heather ( Nancy as herself playing Nancy!) The kid who played the son in also the little son the original Pet Sematary. Miko Hughes. I saw him grown up in a recent interview he's a real good actor.😰😵🤯😰🎥
The Teacher/Nurse/actually not a bad actress, is Lynn Shay, producer Bob Shay's (producer talking to Nancy) sister. She is so funny in King Pin. "What is it about good S3X that makes me wanna take a crap? You really jarred something lose there tiger." LOL
I thought this was very clever. I liked the 'story within a story' angle that this brought out, slightly before 'Scream' if I remember rightly. A big plus for me was that as Heather was my first crush in the 80's, I was delighted to see her return here. Robert, Wes and the entire cast did great jobs in my view.
Great reaction Mr and Mrs movies, for me this is one of my favorites next to the OG film. Love how it's a what if concept a movie within a movie, the kid in the movie is actually working on a sequel fan film where he is having nightmares. Keep up the great work.
This movie was ahead of its time and it’s why Scream worked so well and the reason why the Scream franchise is one of my favorites and Ik the Mrs will love trying to guess who the killer is and Sydney Prescott as a character who kicks ass
My favorite reaction from you both! This was just so good! This is my personal favorite Nightmare and one of my favorite movies! It’s so scary and deep and I think Wes put it all into this 💙
You wouldn't think that little boy was cute when babysitting him after he had done the original Pet Cemetery. An acquaintance of mine babysat him IRL. Yikes.
2024. Almost two hours of intense acting, suspense, threatening and stunning (for that time and even now) visual effects, meta that sent goosebumbs down my spine, superb finale where everything is in its right place. It doesn't age.
Lynda Shey played the nurse in this and the teacher in the first, also the sister of Bob Shey the producer Heather was talking to in tbe movie. Shes also famious for the Insidious films. i loved Freddys look in this, i think the ending got a bit "Tom & Jerry", but it was deffinatly a great originial concept.
I think it was supposed to be like that because the ending was supposed to be a dark Hansel and Gretel (the sleeping pills as breadcrumbs and Dylan pushing Freddy into the furnace like Gretel pushing the witch into the oven) which is why Dylan loves that story so much
This is my favorite Nightmare movie right after #1. The little boy Dylan was also in Kindergarten Cop. The nurse you recognized is also from the Insidious movies, she plays the psychic.
Loved the reaction y’all! This movie is definitely top 2 for me, moving from #1 to #2 depending on my mood lol. I always look forward to y’all’s horror movie reactions
Miko Hughes is an underrated child actor of the late 80's and 90's. From Pet Semetary & Kindergarten Cop To Full house and Spawn. I'll say this the kid kept his innocence and didn't let Hollywood take all of his innocence.
I can see where Wes came from when he did this one, as far as bringing Freddy back into his "roots" by making Freddy darker and scary like they did in the 1st one kinda. But in my opinion, if I had to guess why this one didn't do that good in box office, not even higher than Freddy's Dead as people was so quick to call out that, its because a lot of people actually enjoyed "Entertaining Freddy" where he's funny, sadistic, and scary all into one and when this one came out, it wasn't what fans were expecting by "We wanted Freddy back" as they said in this movie. Because one thing, I felt Wes didn't understand (God rest his soul) due to him having a problem with the previous one was the fact that Freddy's popularity did indeed grow by him having a sick sense of humor, which was shocking because that's exactly what Freddy have had the whole time, since the first one, that comedic side. But this one didn't really focus on that, I felt like they were trying to hard to rely on the "terrifying" side of him. Don't get me wrong, I loved this one as well, I love all the originals but out of the series, I would say that this is my least favorite. Mostly because to me, they went against what Freddy was about, by having that spark of entertainment. Me personally, I like "Entertaining Sadistic Freddy" than just plain "Dark Freddy" to me that's what made him different from Jason, Michael Myers, & Leatherface and better. That's why I didn't like the remake, that and it wasn't Robert Englund. Lastly, great reaction! Always love seeing Mrs. Movies with that horrifying and disgusting look on her face when it comes to Freddy lol. She actually reacted differently than I thought. Also fun fact: Johnny Depp was orginally suggested to be one of the cast in the funeral scene. But the casting director or producers didn't call him because they didn't think he was going to do it. Johnny Depp heard about that and he said he would have been there without hesitation, if they did asked him. They mentioned that in the Never Sleep Again Documentary.
Just watched a thing and they said it's really a demon that's taking Freddys likeness and that's why he looks like he does. It was pretty entertaining and as many times I've seen this I never knew that wasn't supposed to be the Freddy we know
I loved this movie when I was a kid and the vhs cover was awesome. Had the bumpy, pop up texture. Also the kid Dylan was the baby Gage in Pet Semetary.
I accidentally watched this, when I bought the entire Freddy VHS collection, and this one came with it, half way through is when I realized it was a Freddy Movieception. Was great watching it with y'all!
i remember when i was a kid i went to the movies at i was out getting popcorn, they had tv's out there showing trailers for movies and the trailer for this came on and i remember standing there watching while in line and the screen goes black and freddy pops out like "miss me?!" or something like that, that scared the bajeezus out of me
Originally, at the funeral, Wes Craven had written a cameo for Johnny Depp comforting Heather, but Craven then got too nervous to ask Depp (thinking he was too famous now) and took out the cameo scene. After NEW NIGHTMARE came out, Craven got a call from Depp, saying, "You should've asked me. I would've loved to come back and hang with everyone."
Saw this opening night when it came out. Really liked it. Though it was the perfect ending for Freddy. This was a really good precursor to Scream. Ranks in the top 3 for me (1, 3, and then this)
This was actually my second fav. Just cause of the oddness of seeing the actor haunted by, well in some cases the character. Not bad writing for a odd twist on things. Kind of fun
As I stated in a previous reaction of yours, I’ve only seen bits of this here and there but not enough to get me back into Elm Street movies, but now I will have to check this out. I thought this was a typical reboot, but now I understand there’s a meta component that set’s it apart.
I love that you actually liked this one along with part one. Greatreaction. I would love to see your reactions to one of my favourite movies, Once Were Warriors.
This one is up there with my favorites in the series. I like that the was a mother as this movie was made for the same adults (who have kids at this point) who were teenagers when the original came out. It also plays with the themes of darkness vs light and how Freddy wants to snuff out childhood innocence. The graveyard scene had many notable faces from the original minus one… Johnny Depp. Wes Craven did want him for the scene but felt at that time Depp was way too popular and probably wouldn’t want to do a cameo. After the movie came out though he ran into Depp who was hurt he wasn’t offered the chance and said he would have loved to be in the scene. I love the Meta nature of the film, all the characters playing themselves, the fact that heather’s husband in the film was a special effects artist (her real husband was as well) and playing with the idea that inspired the film… Freddy had become a pop culture icon and celebrated like at the talk show scene. That last one was why Craven did this film, he felt Freddy was no longer scary and there was no way to “fix” the old character so he created this version. Another aspect of the film I enjoyed was the Grim fairy tale running plot point and how the doctor questioned heathers parenting ability because she was in horror and her kid may have been exposed to it. It was making a parallel that horror movies can (and in the case of Wes’s Nightmare films) serve the same role as Grim’a fairy tales. That the story of the “boogie man” etc is as old as time (or this incarnation of Freddy) and that kids are exposed to it in part for entertainment, in part to impart a moral message etc. That by not doing it they lack the experience and even coping mechanisms when faced with real danger and real evil.
To be fair, I don't see why Wes wouldn't have asked Johnny Depp to be in this film. He made a cameo in Freddy's Dead. Even at that point he was a big star having starred in 21 jump street and Edward Scissorhands.

My absolute favorite Nightmare film! Such a unique concept and Freddy is at his most menacing, imo! And, of course, Heather is at her most stunning
I’m almost mid way through the reaction but had to stop & comment “ugh, don’t welcome to prime time him” lmao! That was so funny & sincere. Love it 😆
"i'm not gonna go with excited… But I'm here..."
She's there trapped in the house being forced to watch scary movies. It's like mystery science theater 3000 if the husband was the evil scientist doing experiments on their lovely wife! 🤣
Just push the button TJ...
The nurse who played the teacher in the first film is Lin Shaye. She is the sister of Bob Shaye, the executive producer and owner of New Line Cinema that Heather has the meeting with after her TV show interview. Lin has carved out her own career as an actress over the years. You probably have also seen her in There's Something About Mary and Kingpin, along with the Insidious films.
The little boy playing the role of Dylan was in Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger and he was also in Pet Cemetery.
And don't forget Mercury Rising and Full House.
I love the Dave Rod joke is still going haha
This is my third favorite Elm Street film of the franchise! Love the entire franchise. It's not only my #1 favorite horror franchise but my second favorite Hollywood franchise.
What's your favourite Hollywood franchise?
@@stefanpoirier6810 truly Harry Potter. Love that franchise with all my heart.
@@elliottbullockii3282 Great franchise. I don't exactly have a favourite. Ehh the Freddy and Jason movies come to mind. Love the James Bond movies too.
"That was dave rod" 😂😂😂
I remember when this movie came out and the talk about how meta it was. I think it was ahead of it’s time. A movie like this comes out today, maybe it doesn’t get talked about but for early 90s, pretty revolutionary. It’s even more interesting to see that We Craven would in couple years direct the super meta Scream.
The word "meta" wasn't even really around at the time. It's that early.
Mid 90s*
I actually think this is way more “meta” than Scream. The meta aspects of Scream are just the characters vaguely knowing about slasher tropes and it doesn’t factor much into the movie outside of teases regarding who the killer is.
mEtA
"You got a hall-pass?"
"SCREW YOUR HALL PASS!"
I think this movie could exist without the original, in a sense. You could have the plot of the movie being that there was this movie series, etc., with no changes to the movie even if the actual series didn't exist. It truly stands on its own. It's also an important commentary about how fairy tales are used by children to exorcise their fears.
I love that everyone who worked with one of the big masters of horror (Wes) said he was an absolutely sweetheart!
Moms are the toughest people in the world. They have nothing to lose and everything to live for.
I was 4 when this movie came out man I feel old
I gotta binge watch the rest of your reactions before I watch this. Just stopping by to comment. New subscriber btw. Love the videos.✌
Love your movies man...Though I've got to ask....What is your work out routine because you are jacked? 😆😆😆😆
@@johnsmith8906 not anymore. I've let myself go quite a bit since I have no work anymore....
@@jasonvoorhees310 At least those pesky teenagers (Who look suspiciously like they are in their mid 20's) aren't coming to Crystal Lake, disturbing you in your run down shack.

@@ForEternia True enough. :)
That bed slide tunnel looked like fun.
Can’t stop watching your videos,I wish I knew both of u because I think we’d have a laugh,great video once again.👍
Definetely one of the best. You can feel Wes Craven's level in that one comparing to the 4's, 5's, and so on.
So glad u reacted to this movie I am currently watching new nightmare as well while I am watching this reaction
I love how happy she got when she saw Dave Rod 😂😂😂
You can deff tell when Wes hand wasn’t involved in a movie lol the screams and Freddie’s he was involved in were always top notch love his genious
Yikes.
This one is my favorite too! 💯💯 heathers performance, the story and Freddy looks terrific.
2024.
Almost two hours of intense acting, suspense, threatening and stunning (for that time and even now) visual effects, meta that sent goosebumbs down my spine, superb finale where everything is in its right place. It doesn't age.
Dylan was like no one gives the tongue to my mom while he stabs Freddy's 👅! 🤣
Original, then this for my favs. The doc in the hospital was a doc in one of the movies as well.the kid is also from kindergarten cop.
The actress that replaced Kristen in part 4 is also in that funeral scene.
Wes Craven didn't think Johnny Depp would come back for the funeral scene because Depp was a huge star by this time. Johnny said he would have.
The Freddy glove in this film is based on the poster for the original NOES from 1984. The posters for Nightmares 1-5 were painted by Matt Peak.
Totally agree!
@@mattcup8541 yeah. To me, I believe it just makes sense that way
Just watched a thing and they said it's really a demon that's taking Freddys likeness and that's why he looks like he does.
Wes Craven also did The Last House on the Left, Shocker and I even think The Wishmaster.
i remember when i was a kid i went to the movies at i was out getting popcorn, they had tv's out there showing trailers for movies and the trailer for this came on and i remember standing there watching while in line and the screen goes black and freddy pops out like "miss me?!" or something like that, that scared the bajeezus out of me
It's the best one, I agree. Very complex, very intelligent. Two years before Scream, Craven already created the perfect postmodern horror meta film.
Best reaction from Mrs movies!!
Yes, it was Dave Rod.
Omg that little boy in Pet Cemetery used to give me nightmares.
I've been waiting for this one hope you enjoy it as much as I did 🎃🎃🎃🎃
Great reaction at the painting.
Kind of fun
My favorite film in the franchise, so creative.
As I stated in a previous reaction of yours, I’ve only seen bits of this here and there but not enough to get me back into Elm Street movies, but now I will have to check this out. I thought this was a typical reboot, but now I understand there’s a meta component that set’s it apart.
I was hoping you would do this one! Haven't even watched yet, but I give you 5 stars just for covering it!
You, Me, & The Movies Trying to explain this movie to someone who hasn't seen it is so difficult, but I love the concept of it.
11:20 Dave Rod 😂🤣🤣
I thought she said "I'm here I'm freddy to party" 😂😂
Great choice saving this for last. My personal favourite of the series along with the original.
30:01 the way she stair at freddy/ the devil when he said that
I love that you actually liked this one along with part one. Greatreaction. I would love to see your reactions to one of my favourite movies, Once Were Warriors.
One of my favorite Wes Craven movies is People under the stairs
The Hellraiser franchise needs a meta remake like this.
That would be pretty cool tbh
Lin Shaye, teacher in the original nightmare, appeared in a few Conjuring films and sister of producer Robert Shaye.
Wasn’t she also one of the main characters in the Insidious movies?
@@Eraldo_Coil that's what it was, Insidious. Fir some reason I get Insidious and The Conjuring mixed up. She was in most if not all the Insidious movies.
I had the same expression on my face as both of yours when Freddy was burning in the furnace. The Devil/Demonic image is pretty scary.
